When the bell rang signaling for class to start I decided to talk to the strange boy, who's penetrating gaze had not left me since I entered the classroom.

Why did I do it? I honestly can't say. Maybe, it was the conflicted expression he carried, as though debating one thing or another; Perhaps, it was the mysterious air shrouding him, like a cloud crossing over the sun. I always felt compelled to look up in those split seconds that it's light was blocked from view. I was unable to pinpoint the reason, so perhaps there were more than one.

"Serenity," I turned to him and repeated the same sentence from earlier. "Serenity Hope."

He stared for a second, examining my face. "Derek." His voice was not too deep, nor too high, and he had the most intriguing eyes I had ever seen. They were like the ocean, calm before the storm.
Long Black hair fell into his eyes, and I watched as he had to use a hand to tuck it away.
He radiated strength. One glance at his corded arm and the muscles became obvious.

I froze, silent. Mouth opening and closing like a fish.
I had finally thawed and was about to engage in conversation when the teacher burst into the room. "Welcome Class! Today we will be discussing the periodic table and its elements!"

I groaned, unable to hold in my ire. Chemistry was the one class that I could not understand. It felt like a new language, all on it's own. Despite decent marks, it took a lot of effort on my part to keep my grades up.

I even had a tutor at my old school.

I heard a snicker that quickly was transformed into a laugh, when I turned to pin Derek with my gaze.

'What's so funny?" I gave him that look that said if you dare I will murder you.

He just smirked, whispering, "Nothing. Nothing is funny."

Shooting him a glare, I turned back to face the front of the classroom where Mr Devochi was currently explaining the syllabus and what to expect this school year.

He drawled on, and I nearly jumped in joy when the bell rang, signalling the end of the day and the time to go home. I got up, aimlessly and blindly grabbed for my bag behind me, only to catch air. Turning, I frowned. It was missing. I looked around and turned to find Derek with a smile gracing his features and my bag on his shoulder.

"You don't have to carry that." I furrowed my brow, reaching for it.

He backed away.

"I want to." He began walking out, not checking to see if I was following.

We stopped on the steps of the school, and the silence stretched thinly. I bit my lip nervously, unable to stand the silence. "Thank you. You really didn't have to."

No problem. It's like I said earlier." With a small smile gracing his face and giving a little shrug he handed me the bag. I looked back as I walked away to my car, to find him, still staring.

I wondered about his gaze as I got into my car and drove home.
When I finally reached the drive way I turned and parked my car, got out and locked the doors and then walked through the fence, up the three little stairs and into the house. Upon closing the door which signaled that I was home I yelled, "Hey, Mom. I'm back."

"How was school?" She called from the kitchen.

I hesitated, unable to surmise my day in a single word.

Finally I replied. "It was very... Interesting." I clambered up the stairs, thoughts of a boy with ocean blue eyes following each step.

Can you guess what was in my dream?

Well, really...who?:)
