chapter six!

season 1, episode 6 - baggage!

AURORA HAD BEEN IN CLASS, falling asleep. The bell rang as other students began to leave the classroom. Cole tapped her shoulder, causing the girl to open her eyes. "I see you awake." the blonde boy teased. "You rudely woke me up, Cole."

"I did not."

"You're a terrible liar, you know that?"

"And you're living up to your nickname, you know that?" Aurora rolled her eyes while she collected her things. As she left the room, Cole followed behind. The two conversed about only God knows what, laughing and smiling at each other. Unbeknownst to them, Erin was watching. For the past month or so, Cole was always spending time with Aurora, much to his girlfriend's dismay. She needed to do something and fast.

And she knew exactly  what it was.

Aurora was at lunch eating with Ned. "So did you ask out you know who yet?" she asked as she bit into her sandwich. "Yes."

"Oh my god! That's great, dude! What did she say?" Ned's smile grew wide, "She said yes. I'm taking her out this weekend."

"I'm so happy for you! She's a really sweet girl and I think you two are going to hit it off."

"You really think so?" Aurora placed a hand on his shoulder, giving him an honest smile. "Yes, dude. Just be yourself... and get her flowers."

"But I don't know what flowers she likes."

"I'll ask for you."

"Thanks, A."

"Anytime, Ned."  Erin walked up to their table, wearing a very fake smile. "Aurora, could I talk to you for a minute?"

"Uh... sure? I'll be right back, Ned." The two walked out of the cafeteria as a very worried Cole watched them from afar.

"What do you want, Erin?" Aurora asked, crossing her arms. "Look, you should be careful around Cole. He's going to disappoint you."

"I know what this is. You're jealous because I'm hanging out with your boyfriend, aren't you? Me and Cole are just friends, Erin."

"Take it as a warning. He isn't as sweet or caring as you think he is." As Erin walked back into the cafeteria, Aurora couldn't help but think about what the blonde had told her. Was it true? Would he do something bad? Maybe she was jumping to conclusions a bit too quickly.

But little did she know it would come back to prove her wrong.

THE PARTY WAS IN FULL BLOOM as Aurora spoke to some classmates. Jackie and Ned were sitting by the fire, conversing about something.  "Hey, sleeping beauty."

"Blondie, hi. I didn't think you'd show up." Cole scoffed, a hand on his heart. "Me? Miss a party? Come on, I thought you'd know me better than that."

"You're so dramatic, seaweed brain."

"Thank you, princess."

"Do you want to go somewhere and talk?"

"Sure.  After you, sleeping beauty."

"Wow, Cole Walter being a gentleman? That's shocking."

"Ha, ha, very funny." The two found a log to sit on, making themselves comfortable. "By the way, what did Erin talk to you about earlier?"

"Oh... she just wanted to know if I was going to the bonfire."

"Really? That's unlike her."

"People can change, Cole.  Either for the worse or for the better." Cole noticed her dimples, finding them very cute.  Cole had been seeing her that way since the day before her birthday and he didn't know why.  He had Erin, popularity, and the whole school wanting him. Sure, he liked the reputation but he felt like a person when he was with Aurora. She didn't really judge him or find him cool because of him being a former jock. She just saw him as Cole.

"So do you know what you want to do with your future yet?" Aurora asked him. "I think I want to travel the world. It would be cool to see what it has to offer, you know?" Cole answered.

"That's an awesome dream. Maybe you'll see my makeup products when you travel some day."

"You want to run a makeup business? That's so cool. I bet you'll be as big as Rare Beauty."

"You really think so?"

"Yeah, I do. You're Aurora Banks, also the smartest person I know. I think you can." Aurora felt butterflies in her stomach, her smile widening. "That's the sweetest thing you've ever said to me, blondie."

"I think I've said nice things before, princess."

"Like what?"

"Like-"

"Cole, can we talk?" Erin asked, looking at the two. "Yeah, sure. I'll be right back."

Cole eventually returned to the log, wearing an angry expression. "Hey, Cole. What happened?"

"Me and Erin broke up."

"I'm sorry to hear that. Is there anything I can do?"

"No, it's fine.  We've been on and off for a while so I'm not surprised that things ended like this." As the two sat in silence, Aurora had one thing on her mind.

She might like Cole Walter... in a not so friend way.
