To Draw Her

She had wanted me to draw her
God
I wish I had
But I don't just want to draw her once I want to draw her when she's out of breath
Giggling under the light of the street lamps
When she's exhausted lying on a sofa
Eyes lazily trailed toward the television
I want to draw her when she's staring into the wind
Daring it to try and move her
I want to draw her when we're running through the woods at night
The darkness
The adrenaline
The cold slowly bringing a rose to her cheeks
I want to draw her in a million ways
So that I can never forget
Every way she has existed
Every beautiful
Imperfect step she took
And every smile that graced her lips
I want to draw her
But I can't
I'm afraid to
I don't want to draw her
Only to look back and see somebody
I don't know
I don't want to have to draw her
And capture all that I feel
And all that she is
As though it is the last time.
I never want to have to drink in her presence
Before saying goodbye

But

I may have no choice
She will be leaving soon
We both will
So maybe I will
Maybe I'll draw her a million times
And hope against hope
That at least one
Captures enough of her
That I can feel for a second
As though she isn't gone
