After about thirty minutes of positively hilarious fun, the bell began to ring.
"Sword fighting," Breeze informed us. Ok, I personally think it's a little strange we do sword fighting. If we ever got in a fight, wouldn't we just use our power? I asked Breeze, Misty nodding vigorously, also desperate for an answer.
"Well-" She started just as she realized we were already almost there, "Ask Mr. Klinge." she said as she ran through the door. We, too, entered, and to my surprise it was enclosed in glass, the sun shining through. Square sandpits covered the ground, and a large case of scary looking swords was in the far left.
"New students? Oh yes, I almost forgot, hello Misty and Skylar." He greeted us. He had mousy brown hair. "Read the rules today and tomorrow come ready to practice." He began assigning people dueling partners. Misty's hand shot up in the air. Mr. Klinge raised his eyebrows.
"Yes Ms. Blue?"
"Well, sir, why do we sword-fight?" He gave Misty a questioning look after she had spoken.
"Simply in case we need to fight Elemental power consuming monsters, which means they can steal powers. You will learn in your Studies of Monsters class, which most of you have next. Now, read your rules and maybe tomorrow you can fight." He turned away and continued assigning people. I was kind of bummed we couldn't do anything for 45 minutes but read the rules, but also felt a terrified burden lifted from my chest because I didn't have to be flayed. Mist and I read for the next 500 years, until finally class ended. I had a pretty clear understanding of how it worked by the time the bell rang.
"Come on," Misty poked me out of my daze, "Let's go learn about monsters."
