CRACK!
The sound of a hatching dragon egg was surrounded by silence. The sad sound of a whaling dragonet soon followed as the tiny creature broke through the shell of its egg.
    Mommy? It thought. Daddy?

About an hour later, a silver Icewing entered a small abandoned shelter. She looked around and saw a broken egg shell. Her eyes widened for a second, before a small weird looking dragonet launched itself towards her. "Mommy!" It cried. "Where Daddy?"
The Icewing smiled. "Scorpion! Come here!" She called. A large dusty Sandwing slipped into sight and the dragonet in the Icewing's talons wriggled. "Daddy!!" The little dragon's wings were shaking. It leaped onto Scorpion's head and sat, curled up in the gap between the Sandwing's horns.
"So Blizzard, we have a dragonet." Scorpion chuckled.
"Yes, but I'm worried about the other one. I don't know if it needs warmth from you, or cold from me!" Blizzard replied.
"We will take care of them. That is a promise."
Scorpion gently picked up the dragonet on his head and examined it. It was a girl. She had the body shape of a Sandwing, including the barb on her tail but there were some unusual things about her. She was a silvery blue, like Blizzard and she had small Icewing spikes on the back of her neck and down her tail. The Icewing and Sandwing genetics that she had, had created the ultimate weapon; the spiky barb on her tail!  Scorpion spent some time marvelling the work of art this tiny creature had for a tail. Then he moved his eyes to her face. Unlike the rest of her body, the silver scales on her snout changed to pale yellow, like a Sandwing's.  her eyes were a dark green-blue colour and to be honest, she was very pretty. Scorpion looked over to Blizzard in satisfaction.
"We've created a beautiful young dragon, Blizzard." He gazed proudly at the both of them. "Like I was saying, we will protect and love them for as long as we live. Blizzard nodded. "This is our family."

Growing up was difficult for Glass. (that's what her parents agreed her name should be) It was getting harder to see every day, but she didn't want to bug her parents. Besides, it was like this since the day she hatched! She could see then, but from that day forward, her sight got worse and worse. Her sister hatched a moon ago and her parents named her Cloud. She looked like an Icewing, but like Glass she was mixed up too. She was blindingly white with some yellow on the insides of her wings. She did not have the barb on her tail, but her spikes were long and dangerous. Cloud and Glass could both breath a Sandwing Icewing combo of frostbreath and fire: freezing fire! Fire with bits of ice. Nobody knows why the ice doesn't melt in the fire, but they do know that Glass and Cloud were dangerous. Cloud's eyes were black, like her father and she also had the heat radiating scales too. Glass was well aware that her sister was not having problems seeing, and that gave Glass the odd desire to draw attention by revealing her blindness issue to her parents. But she couldn't, even if she wanted to. Her parents were always busy fighting in the war and keeping her and her sister a secret.
"I have to go, Blaze wants me to escort her to a new shelter. One where there's no bugs and lots of space. Sandwings and their claustrophobia!" Blizzard yelled.
"Bye mom!" Said Cloud as she wrapped her arms around her mother's neck.
"Be safe! We'll miss you!" Said Scorpion. He nuzzled Blizzard before stepping back and smiling. "Cloud, come here! We can play find the cactus!" He exclaimed and Cloud eagerly bounced over to her dad. "Yay!" Glass heard Cloud's voice ring through the room. "Bye, have a nice relocating session." She said to her mother. Blizzard grinned and swiftly left through the door. Glass sighed. She could barely see her talons in front of her. What would happen if she was left to fend for herself? She probably wouldn't survive. She steadied her shakey self and curled up for a nap.
