The small, black and sand colored egg began to crack, little bits a time. A pale golden SandWing stared down with love and affection in her doe brown eyes, concern tinting them slightly.

"Is she going to hatch, all proper and ready to impress Queen Honeybee?" The HiveWing father looked down on the supposed female dragonet.

"I hope so," the SandWing whispered. Another crack. The beautiful SandWing bit her lip. Another, then another, then one final crack...

Both the parents leaned forward, eyes wide. The eggshell had fallen off of the top, as a small dragonet's head cautiously peeped out. It froze, then crawled out entirely. Body, legs, and tail were now visible. He had the build of a HiveWing, black scales, four wings, sharp talons. Although, instead of his father's vibrant yellow-orange color, he had the color of bright sand, basing his color as a HiveWing.  His tail curved, and at the tip of it was a black, sharp looking barb.

The HiveWing pulled back in disgust. The SandWing's face morphed into the definition of adoration towards the small creature.

"He's so handsome," she said, cooking. The HiveWing turned away with a look of shame and dishonor on his face

"We can't present that thing to the Queen!" He spat, recoiling with his forked tongue lashing out between his sharp fangs. "It's hideous!" The SandWing wrapped her talons around the eggshells and the dragonet, pulling him away from his father.

"What?" She gasped. "H-how could you talk about your dragonet like that? Your own scales and blood!"

The HiveWing bristled. "Amber, we can't go out in public with him! And it's a hybrid! What do you think my parents would think of this?"

Amber flinched, and the HiveWing had a flash of guilt before Amber snapped at him. "OF COURSE he's a hybrid," she snapped, curling her tail around the newborn dragonet, pulling him close. "What did you think? 'Oh, I'm going to have a dragonet with a SandWing and I'm a HiveWing and we're not going to have a hybrid?!'"

The HiveWing glared at her. "Why are you yelling? He's just a stupid dragonet with too much of your blood in him!! Get rid of him, Amber. Or by the thrice-cursed moons, you're going to wish you were never born."

Hornet was confused about what was going on. But he did know one thing. The loving Dragon who was leaning lovingly over him was not feeling the same way towards this other Dragon that seemed to hate even the thought of spending time with him. As if this dragon was ashamed of him.

Something bubbled up inside of Hornet that he would soon learn to call anger. He hated him. Yes, that was it. He wanted to do something to hurt him. But what?

Hornet looked at the sharp barb on his tail and then stumbled over towards his father angrily. After a bit of trying to figure of what moved his barb thingy, then he jabbed it sharply into Cicada's wrist. Cicada howled in pain, pushing Hornet away violently before his eyes turned from the hateful black to a sickening light, glowing green. His wings began buzzing but he didn't lift off the ground. His scales turned from a vibrant yellow-orange to a slightly different shade that changed his vibe from controlling to controlled.

Hornet looked at Cicada, scrunched up his little face, and Cicada began blubbering baby talk. He held up a talon in a weird position, then stabbed himself deeply, no sound of pain coming out. Hornet's face let go of all stress as his father collapsed to the ground.

Amber ran over to Cicada, sobbing. Hornet looked lovingly into his mother's soft doe Brown eyes as she stared back into his black, lifeless ones. They twinkled slightly with a hidden evil inside of him that would grow into a monster. Amber held out her trembling talons, and picked up Hornet, hugging him, afraid of what he might do to her if she stepped out of line. Of what he might become. Of what she had created.
