The field was littered with scrap metal and broken electronics.  A red, yellow and black dressed bald man with dark glasses and a rather unique red-haired mustache was sitting in a hovering vehicle shaped like a metallic pod as he observed the destruction before him before turning his attention to the people responsible for the destruction, Sonic the Hedgehog and his friends.

"D-Do...D-Do..." Dr Eggman sputtered as he twitched in annoyance.

Sonic grinned cockily as he waved his index finger.

"Now now Eggy.  There is a minor present after all." He said, referring to his little adopted brother Tails.

Shadow the Hedgehog, having caught on to the immature joke Sonic was implying, rolled his eyes in disgust "Very funny, not."

"DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA HOW LONG IT TOOK ME TO BUILD THOSE ROBOTS!!??" Dr Eggman finally exploded in rage.

Sonic shrugged "Hey, you built them!  You tell me!"

Dr Eggman growled "Why do you always keep ruining my fun!?"

"Because your definition of 'fun' involves turning the planet into a metallic wasteland and making everyone on it your slave!" Said Knuckles the Echidna.

"So?" Questioned Eggman, not seeing the problem with it.

"So long!" Said Sonic with a cheeky grin.

"Huh?   What do you see that's long?" Questioned Eggman.

Little did Eggman know that his question was about to be answered by a certain pink hedgehog wielding a large yellow and red hammer while being carried a little flying rabbit, charging at him from behind.

"SO LONG!" Shouted Amy as she wacked Eggman's pod with the force of an All-Star Baseball Hall of Famer.

"CURSE YOU HEGDEHOOOOOG!!!!!" Eggman yelled as he and his pod were flung into the distance.

"AND IT'S A GRAND SLAM!!!" Shouted Sonic with his trademark grin.

Sometime later, everyone was hard at work cleaning up the mess from the battle.  There was so much scrap that Shadow and Rouge had to contact GUN for assistance in the matter.  Eventually, with the help of everyone's hard work, the mess was cleaned up.

"Thank you for your help soldiers.  We can take it from here." Shadow said to the GUN troops.

"Very well, we will return to base.  The Commander will be expecting a full mission report." Said the squad leader.

"And he will get it." Said Shadow.

The squad leader nodded and ordered his troops to leave.

Tails sighed with relief "No telling how long this would have taken without GUN's help.  Thanks, you guys!" He said to Shadow and Rouge.

Shadow nodded while Rouge ruffled Tails' hair "Just doing our jobs little guy." Rouge said with a wink.

Knuckles groaned, feeling sore "I for one can't wait to get home, relax and put this day behind me!" He said rubbing his shoulder.

Rouge smirked "Of course!  Wouldn't want to keep your precious gem and precious sister waiting and worrying am I right?"

Knuckles growled "Tikal is not my sister!  She and I are not related in any way, shape or form!"

Rouge giggled "I know, I just like messing with you."

"To be fair Knuckles, you did think Tikal was related to you for a long time before she explained the truth." Said Tails.

"WHOSE SIDE ARE YOU ON!?" Yelled Knuckles at Tails.

Rouge shrugged "Look on the bright side Knuxie.  Now that you know Tikal isn't a relative, you two can 'make sure your species doesn't go extinct' if you catch my drift." She finished with a wink.

Knuckles blushed redder than his fur "MIND YOUR OWN BUSINESS!" He shouted.

Suddenly Espio interrupted before the conversation got out of hand "Hey, has anyone seen Sonic and Amy?" He questioned.

"Isn't that them over there?" Said Vector, pointing to two familiar silhouettes.

The gang turned and looked to see that it was them.  They walked to the hedgehogs but stopped when they saw the two were having a conversation, so they chose not to interrupt.

The conversation appeared normal but for whatever reason, it looked like it was getting heated with Amy even summoning her hammer.  The gang was about to intervene when suddenly they saw Amy putting away her hammer and appearing to calm down, prompting them breathe a sigh of relief when suddenly they saw the hedgehogs laughing for whatever reason, leading some in the gang to shrug in confusion.

Eventually the gang saw the hedgehogs stop talking.  The two stayed like that for a while until the gang saw Amy smile or at least it looked she was smiling with Sonic winking at her when suddenly the two turned to see the gang looking at them.  Sonic and Amy then appeared to exchange a few more words before the gang saw Sonic dash off with Amy waving at him.  With the conversation over, the gang walked over to Amy to learn more.

"What were you and Mr Sonic talking about Amy?" Asked Cream.

"Oh, you know, stuff.  He also told me to tell you guys that he said 'bye'." Said Amy.

"What sort of 'stuff'?" Inquired Knuckles.

"Couple stuff." Amy answered.

Rouge grinned evilly "Couple stuff, eh?"

Amy frowned "'Private' couple stuff!"

Rouge grinned wider "'Private', eh?"

Amy was getting flustered and irritated "Just drop it already, Rouge!"

Seeing that Amy was getting uncomfortable, the gang decided to change the subject.

"I still can't believe Amy and Sonic are officially a thing now." Said Vector.

"Well I can." Said Shadow.

This caught the whole gang by surprise.

"What makes you say that?" Asked Rouge.

"I've noticed that as time went on, Amy started acting less and less like an annoying brat constantly asking for marriage proposals and more like a mature woman who finally outgrew her fangirl phase." Shadow explained.

Amy wanted to smash Shadow for calling her a brat but deep down she couldn't help but admit he was right.

Shadow continued "And apparently Faker took notice of that fact because I've noticed that he appears more comfortable around her and actually enjoys her presence now instead of wanting to flee at the first sight of her."

"That makes sense." Tails said nodding.

"Yeah and now that I think about it, I did see Sonic and Amy blushing and playfully teasing each other from time to time." Knuckles said.

"Me too, it almost looked like they were flirting.  Like they were practically a couple already!" Said Rouge smirking.

Amy blushed "ROUGE!" She shouted.

"Amy, could tell me how you and Sonic became a couple again?" Asked Cream.

Amy looked down, trying to recall how they got together.

"Well remember that one time months ago when we infiltrated Eggman's base to save the little animals he was holding captive?" Amy started.

The gang nodded but frowned because they also remembered that after they had saved the animals, the base began falling apart due to the huge battle they had with Eggman and his robots, resulting in some large debris that was about to fall on Sonic.  Amy noticed quickly, pushed Sonic out of the way and took the impact instead.

"You were put in a c-coma for w-weeks...w-we thought you were n-never going to wake up!" Cried Cream as she hugged Amy tightly.

Amy hugged Cream back "Shhh...It's ok Cream.  I survived and that's what matters." She said.

"Could we get back on topic please?" Said Shadow.

"Right, sorry." Said Amy.

She continued "Anyway, after I woke up from my coma..."

(Flashback)

"AMY!!!" Cream cried as she hugged Amy tightly.

"Thank goodness you're alright!" Said Tikal, relieved.

"Thanks, you two!" Said Amy with a smile.

Soon Cream and Tikal told the rest of the gang and they were overjoyed.

"We were really worried about you!" Said Tails.

"You've been unconscious for so long we thought you were never gonna wake up!" Said Espio.

"I'm really sorry I worried you all but I'm ok now.  Thanks for your concern!" Smiled Amy.

"That's what friends are for!" Smiled Tails.

"We got cards and flowers for you too!" Said Cream.

"Open them!  Open them!" Said Charmy excitedly.

Amy was touched "Awww!!!!  You guys shouldn't have!" She said.

Amy then started reading the cards.  Some were funny, others were sweet, but she loved them all.  Amy then turned her attention to the flowers that shared her surname, roses.  They were many different colors and smelled so lovely that Amy was moved to tears.

Amy sniffed "Thank you all so very much!  I'm truly grateful to have such wonderful friends!" She smiled.

"You're welcome!" Said the gang with smiles.

Amy then took the time to see who was in attendance.  She saw her closest friends Cream and Tikal of course along with Tails, Espio, Charmy and Vector.  Unfortunately, some of the other members of the gang weren't there, such as Knuckles, Shadow and Rouge.

Knuckles couldn't make it, due to the fact that someone had to stay on Angel Island and guard the Master Emerald, but he did tell Tikal to tell Amy that he wished her a speedy recovery.  Shadow and Rouge couldn't make it due to the fact that they were on another mission for GUN, but some of the roses were from Shadow and Rouge, despite the fact that they and Amy didn't always get along well.

However, there was one person whom Amy didn't see among her friends but really wished he was present.  The person she loved.  The person she risked her life and almost lost it for.  The fact that he wasn't there hurt Amy more than the debris she saved him from.

"Where's Sonic...?" Asked Amy.

"He's in the waiting room." Said Tails.

"Really!?" Said Amy surprised.

"Really!" Tails confirmed with a smile.

Amy was confused "Why isn't he in here?" She asked.

"He said he wanted to speak to you alone." Tails answered.

"Why?" Amy asked.

"He wouldn't say.  But I did notice that he looked nervous for some reason." Said Tails.

"Nervous?" Said Amy curious.

"Yeah!  It was sooo cute!" Giggled Cream.

This really surprised Amy.  Why would Sonic be nervous about talking to her?  Amy had stopped acting like a crazed fangirl a long time ago, leading to Sonic being more comfortable around her and now the two of them were really good friends.  It didn't make any sense.  Unless...

'Could it be that Sonic...actually has feelings for me?' Amy thought hopefully.

"Could I see him now...?" Asked Amy.

"Sure!  I'll go get him." Said Tails as he went to get Sonic.

Now Amy was feeling nervous.  What if it was too good to be true?  What if he was going to tell her that he only liked her as a friend and nothing more?

"Amy, are you feeling ok?" Asked Tikal concerned.

Amy looked down but then she shook her head to pull herself together.  She was a big girl now and if Sonic didn't like her in the way she hoped, she would accept it and try to move on.  No matter how much it would hurt.

"Yeah, I'm ok." Amy nodded.

Suddenly Tails opened the door and brought Sonic in.  Amy blushed as she saw him come in while Sonic also turned red as he looked her in the eyes.

Sonic cleared his throat "Um, could you guys Amy and me some privacy?" He asked.

The gang nodded and left as Tails escorted them out.

"Good luck you two." Tails said as he went out and closed the door.

Now it was just Sonic and Amy in the room together.  For a few minutes, neither of them said a word.  The tension was so thick, you could cut it with a knife.  Eventually, Sonic decided to break the awkwardness and speak first.

"I-I'm glad you're ok A-Amy." Said Sonic as he blushed.

"T-Thanks S-Sonic." Said Amy as she blushed.

"Y-You're welcome.  Also, thank you for saving me from getting crushed." Said Sonic.

Amy smiled.  It felt good for Sonic to thank her for saving him, as rare as it was.

"You're welcome." She acknowledged.

The silence then returned but this time, after a few more minutes, Amy decided to break the silence.

"So...what did you want to speak to me alone for...?" Amy questioned.

Sonic scratched the back of his head in nervousness.

"Well...you know the old saying 'Actions speak louder than words'?' He asked.

"Y-Yeah.  Why do you ask?" Amy questioned.

It was then that Sonic did something that he and Amy thought he would never do.

He kissed her.

On the lips.

It was short but sweet.  Sonic and Amy were blushing like crazy and Amy's heart was squealing with joy, but her brain was having trouble processing what just happened and why it happened.  She had to ask him.

"Why?"

Sonic answered "If there's one thing I've learned from this ordeal, it's something I should've learned following what we went through on Lost Hex."

"And what's that?"

"You only have so many opportunities and you never know when you might run out of them."

Amy smirked "Don't leave things till the last minute, right?"

Sonic smirked back "Bingo!"

Amy laughed but then she decided to ask the big question.

"So...does this mean..."

"That I have feelings for you?" Sonic finished for her.

Amy blushed but nodded.

"Well, I'd say it's a bit too soon to say that what I feel for you is what you feel for me." Sonic said.

Amy frowned "I see..."

"But I will say this."

"Huh?"

Sonic smiled "What I feel for you is definitely something more than friendship."

Hearing that gave Amy new hope, making her smile too.

Sonic noticed "You have a cute smile.  You know that?"

Amy blushed "T-Thanks."

"So...what you feel for me is something more than friendship right?" She questioned.

"Y-Yeah."

"But you're not sure what it is yet?" Amy continued.

"N-No." Sonic confirmed.

"Well I think know a way for us to find out..." Amy smirked.

"And that is..."

"For us to start dating!" She finished with a grin.

Sonic frowned and looked down, making Amy concerned.

"Sonic?" She asked worriedly.

"Amy, you know how much I love being free.  Going on adventures, saving the day and all that right?"

"Y-Yeah?" Said Amy.

Sonic sighed "Well...that's why I don't think a relationship between us would work."

Amy felt tears in her eyes when he said that.

Sonic continued "Seeing as how I'm always on the go, you'll likely be waiting who knows how long for your next date and I don't think it would be fair of me to do that to you."

Amy looked down with tears falling down her cheeks and onto her lap.  Sonic felt horrible for telling her all that but it was the truth and he had no intention of changing his lifestyle anytime soon, not even for his friends and loved ones.

Suddenly, Amy lifted her head, wiped her tears and smiled a small smile.

"Amy...?" Asked Sonic curiously.

"You're right."

This caught Sonic off guard "I-I am?"

"Yes.  I know well by now how much you love your freedom and it wouldn't be right for me to make you give it up." Amy said.

Sonic smiled 'She truly has changed.  I'm proud of you Ames.'

"And that's why I'm willing to wait however long it takes for a date."

Sonic was caught off guard again "Wait what!?"

Amy continued "I want us both to be happy so that's why I'm gonna let you keep doing what you love doing as long as you also make sure to include some time for me.  For us."

"R-Really?" Sonic asked.

Amy smiled wider and winked "Really, really."

Sonic chuckled "You know you might be waiting days, weeks or even months for a date, right?"

Amy nodded "Maybe even longer but as far as I'm concerned, you are worth the wait."

Sonic smiled.

"Besides, I know how to be patient.  Unlike some people I could mention." Amy smirked at that last part.

Sonic caught on and playfully glared "I'm gonna get you for that one!"

Amy stuck out her tongue.

"So, dating's the only way for me to figure out my feelings?" Sonic asked.

Amy nodded "And it's the only way for me to figure out my feelings too."

Sonic tilted his head confused "Your feelings?"

"Yes.  I need to find out whether my feelings for you are for real too or whether they're just a crush." Amy confirmed.

Sonic nodded in understanding.

"Well then, there's just one more thing that needs to be said." He said as he took her hands in his.

"What is it?" Amy questioned.

Sonic then took a deep breath and asked the question that would truly make her day.

"Amy Rose...will you be my girlfriend?"

The question made Amy's heart start beating like crazy and among other things left her speechless.  Furthermore, the wait for a response was putting Sonic on edge.

"Amy...?"

Amy then did the one thing she had been wanting to do for a long time.

She smashed her lips against his and kissed him.

Long and good.

This really caught Sonic off guard but he returned the kiss.  Sometime later they broke the kiss panting for breath but with smiles on their faces.

"Actions speak louder than words, right?" She smirked and winked.

Sonic smirked back "You Rascal you."

(End of flashback)

"And we've been together ever since." Amy said with a smile.

The other girls sighed in happiness "Awwww!!!!"

"Never thought I'd see the day." Said Vector.

Tails smiled "I'm happy for you both Amy!"

Amy giggled "Thanks Tails!"

"You sure you're comfortable waiting long periods of time for a date?" Knuckles asked.

Amy nodded "If dating Sonic has taught me anything, it's how to be flexible."

"Are you and Mr Sonic gonna be together forever?" Cream asked hopefully.

Amy looked down in thought "I don't know yet.  I mean I hope so, but I just don't know."

"What are you gonna do if it doesn't work out?" Tails asked.

Amy sighed but smiled "We'll just have to go right back to being friends."

"And what if does work out?  Any plans for marriage and kids?" Rouge asked with a smirk.

Amy blushed and shook her head "It is way too soon to thinking about that!  Plus, I don't want to fall back into old habits!"

Rouge chuckled "True.  Wouldn't want to scare him off after finally snagging him, right?"

Amy glared "Anyway, I will say this."

Everyone looked at her.

"Even if we get married, whatever the future holds, whether he chooses to keep doing what he loves doing till the day he dies or for whatever reason he decides to put it all behind him and retire..."

The gang nodded waiting for her to continue.

Amy smiled "I will love and support him in whatever he chooses to do!"

They all smiled though Shadow's smile was smaller.  They were all proud of how mature and understanding Amy had become, though none were more proud than Amy herself and with that, the gang bid each other farewell went their separate ways.

That night as Amy was getting ready for bed, she reflected on everything that happened to her since she met Sonic.  She didn't know whether it was the tarot cards or something else that led her to him but ever since she met him, her life had become a roller coaster ride.  For all the highs and lows she went through, she did not regret a thing.  Especially now that she could finally call herself "Sonic's girlfriend" instead of just his "Self-Proclaimed girlfriend".

Furthermore, no matter how long Sonic would keep her waiting, whether for dates or marriage or whatever else, she knew that as she checked her smartphone to see that she received a text from Sonic asking if she was free next week...

"Definitely worth the wait."
