Trapped

Something hits me hard,
At what I see.
A cage of glass,
With a lock of steel.
The key is lost
Trapping the small thing within.
It tries its best, you see
To fly in that confined space.
It fails to see the glass
And tries again and again to flee.
Time pass. Visitors come.
Some jeer. Some wonder.
It gives them all a soulful gaze,
Begging, pleading someone to save it.
None step forward. None do.
Who would ever let go
Of a rare creature like that?
A creature not easily caught.
Despite despair, it flutters,
Trying, again and again, to be free.
My lips purse.
My heart moves.
It fails to see what it is.
Its wings are clipped
But its talons are sharp.
Its roar can melt glass.
Staring at me isn't a bird
Before me, with fiery eyes, is a dragon.
How can it know what it is?
When they confine it with
mere sparrows?
With time it forgets
Its skin's armour and breath of flame.
It believes it is a
Sparrow itself.
One day, the glass will break,
The lock will shatter,
For that, it should mature,
See itself for who it is.
Know only it can save itself.
With heaviness in my throat
And a fire in my heart,
I put down
The mirror and smile
Like everything is perfect.

I have not updated in years! Wow!
This is really bad.
