AN: So, we're going to go back a little bit in this chapter- kinda like a time skip backwards. Also, I thought that this was a really cool fan art and I put it up. And my accent might be off, sometimes it's there, sometimes it isn't, so sorry. Anyway, let's see what's happening to Race...

RACE POV

Sitting in the back of a police wagon, I was desperately hoping that Kate had found the newsies. They were the only ones that could help me right now. I rubbed my arm where I'd gotten a bruise from hitting the wagon floor hard. I tried to push out thoughts of the Refuge, but they overwhelmed me. I burst into tears. Memories of hunger, loneliness, and pain, Lots of pain, ran through my head. I was going back. The wagon jerked to a stop. I wiped my eyes  and suddenly an idea came to me. Jack had almost been back to the Refuge a few times, but escaped. Once he'd escaped from the wagon, so if Jack could do it, it couldn't be that hard. I stood up, ready to bolt when the door opened. I waited, and waited. Okay, it didn't take that long to just open the door. I tensed up again when I heard footsteps. When it opened, my heart sunk. Two cops were standing with Snyder.

" Is this the boy?" One of them asked.

" Yes, he's stayed here before. Escaped a little over two years ago. I would like some help bringing him in. Wouldn't want a thief on the loose, would we?" Snyder smiled evilly. Liar. I hadn't stolen anything. Today, anyway.

" Out." The other cop said to me. I hesitated, and he pulled me out, then they both roughly shoved me in from of them.

" Hey!" I complained.

" Shut it." The 1st cop said. I grit my teeth, but kept silent. I walked towards it, continually being shoved from behind. Snyder opened the main door, and waved in the cops, who in turned pushed me in. Snyder shut the door, then led us down a few halls to a bare room except for a couple of chairs and a table.

" Thank you gentlemen, that will be all." Snyder said, grabbing me by the collar. The men nodded,

" Always happy to keep the streets safe." They said, looking at me. They tipped their hats to Snyder as they left. Snyder threw me into one of the chairs, then sat across from me. He flipped open a large book on the table, and rifled through the pages. I racked my brains, trying to think of ways to get out, but there was no possibility while in this room.

" Ah, here it is. Antonio Higgins, brought in by your father, right?" I winced. Ugh, my father. "How sad." He said, but in a way that I knew he'd mean it when Romeo stopped flirting with every girl he saw. " Looks like for thievery, you have 1 month left. However, escaping added a few more to that sentence. I might add more just for the treatment you gave me last time." Snyder shut the book and stood up. " Oh, we are going to have fun." He laughed and roughly pulled me up by the arm.

" Get offa me, ya filthy-" I started to say before Snyder interrupted me.

" Now, now Higgins, watch your language." Snyder said sarcastically, dragging me to the door. I ignored him,

" Lousy jerk!" I continued shouting unsavory things at him, until finally he shoved me into the wall. I swear I heard my nose break. "Ahhhh..." I moaned.

" Shut it, or you'll regret it. And you know what that means, don't you." I pushed away from the wall,

" Yeah, I know. And I ain't afraid." I was, but I wasn't going to back down. Snyder shoved me forward, hard. I tripped, and I couldn't catch myself, still being handcuffed. I hit the ground, and my nose burned. It took everything not to say anything. I could not give Snyder that satisfaction.

" Done?" He asked. I didn't say anything, giving Snyder his answer. He pulled me up than pushed me forward. We walked down some halls and some stairs before we reached another door. He opened it and shoved me through. I managed to keep my footing. " On your knees." I grit my teeth, but complied. I mean, like I could do anything else! I closed my eyes and tried not to think about what was going to happen.
