Part 4 — Exchange

"I won't be back for quite a while."

"How long is that?"

"Uh... don't wait for me?"

"So..."

"I don't know. Just don't expect me to come back for a while." Zap grabbed his jacket and unlocked the door. "See you soon."

"Shut the fuck up and leave," Xin said, walking towards the kitchen.

"Pfft." Zap closed the door and locked it behind him.

"Well, fuck this. I'm all alone." Xin grabbed a bar of chocolate from the fridge. I could head to college... she looked at her backpack, which was empty and dusty. Maybe not. She walked upstairs and into Zap's room. Bitch never cleans up his shit... well, I'm not doing it. She walked over to her own room. She finished her chocolate and laid down. What do I do? She was about to sleep when she heard the doorbell ring. "Who's that?" She walked downstairs to open the door. It was an unknown girl. "Who are you?"

"Neighbor of yours," she replied. Xin saw her as younger than her, maybe 19 or 20. "Cool. I'm Xin."

"Britney. Nice to meet you."

"Same here." Xin thought for a bit. "Come inside?"

"Sure! I was just about to ask that, actually." Britney took a step inside the apartment. She immediately began to walk over to the kitchen. "Someone takes care of this."

Xin laughed nervously. "My roomate deals with all of that."

"You have a roomate?"

"Yeah. He's currently out."

"Huh. And what do you do?"

"Cleaning and such. It works out."

"I live alone. My kitchen needs a lot of work, and my cleaning is mediocre. I think one day I need to focus on cleaning the house, then clean the kitchen another day."

"Yeah. The kitchen does take a lot of work, especially since it's constantly getting dirty when someone uses it daily, multiple times a day."

"Right." Britney walked towards the stairs. Xin motioned for her to walk up them. She's not bad, she told herself. That's not something you see everyday. She followed Britney up the stairs. Britney peered inside Zap's room. She then walked over to Xin's room. "Mind if I go inside?"

"Eh... don't do that." Britney instead took a look inside. Satisfied, she walked downstairs. "Thanks for letting me visit! See you tomorrow?"

"See you tomorrow," Xin said, locking the door as Britney walked back to her apartment.
