Meanwhile, Gaster and Alphys were in a more secret part of the lab.

"So you're saying this could bring back Beta?" Gaster inquired.

"Y-yes, if my calculations are correct, it should work," Alphys replied, adjusting her glasses.  "...hopefully."

"Hopefully?"

"W-well, there's a possibility I got something wrong...b-because some of the parts I h-had to make myself. T-there was no other way t-to get them..."

"... well, there's only one way to find out if it'll work."

Alphys nodded and powered on the machine. It started making a buzzing noise as it powered up.

Electric sparks bounced from one part to another.

There was a blinding white light...

...and it cleared.

Smoke arose as the door opened, causing a wolflike monster to tumble through, faceplanting onto the floor.

"It worked!" Alphys cheered as Gaster rushed to the wolf's side.

"Beta? Are you alright? Answer me!"

The wolf slowly opened its eyes. "G...gaster...? Wh-wha..."

Gaster pulled her into a tight hug. "Thank goodness!"

She gave a yelp of surprise, but returned the hug. "Heh... glad to see you're alright too, old friend."

Alphys watched the two of them, glad to see her old teachers reunited once again. Beta's eyes met Alphys's gaze and she hesitated.

"Alphys? Is that you? Oh my Asgore, you've grown since I've seen you last, my apprentice!"

Alphys gave an awkward chuckle. "I-it's been a wh-while, that's for sure."

"And how's Undyne?"

"She's d-doing well, too...! She and the others are on the surface-"

"The surface? You found a way to make it to the surface?"

"The barrier broke. We are unsure how," Gaster explained.

"Oh."

He nodded.  "The important thing is we are free. Alphys and I only came back to check on the-"

Alphys cut him off. "G-gaster, I'd p-prefer not to tell her about t-them..."

"But if the three of us work together, we might be able to find a solution to the problem!"

"B-but what if it fails? What if it makes things worse?"

"Alphys, I assure you, that is not going to happen."

Alphys took a deep breath. "C...can we at least wait before we tell her...?"

Gaster sighed. "Fine. We'll wait."

Alphys breathed a sigh of relief, but a look of confusion spread across Beta's face.

"What are you-"

"Like we said, we'll tell you later."

Beta looked down before giving a nod of understanding.

"Although you know I do NOT like waiting..." she growled stubbornly.

Gaster chuckled. "You always were impatient and stern."

"Hmph!" Beta crossed her arms, putting her nose in the air.  Gaster chuckled again.

"Well, let us go, shall we?"

Beta and Alphys both nodded once.

The trio began heading to the surface, not noticing the two sisters watching from the shadows.

"Them.  They are the ones that betrayed us," Gabby hissed.

"But they don't seem mean," Glitch whispered in protest.  "How could it be them?"

"It was them, trust me.  And we are going to kill them.  But not now.  You are too weak now."

"Excuse me?"

"I know how to make you stronger."

"How?"

"I'll tell you soon.  But first, we have to dump that sister of yours."

"Anti!?  But-"

"No buts.  She will foil our plans."

Gabby secretly gave a sharp glare to Annie, who was hovering over Anti.

Annie gave a small gulp.

"... maybe you should keep an eye on Glitch.  Something tells me she isn't happy with Gaster, Beta, and Alphys."

"Will do."

This was only the beginning.

The beginning of a war.
