So in my book (Darkest Hopes...I may remake it qwq)

Darkest cuts his hair short and now he is growing it back out

His hair reached down his back reaching his waist

His dad had long hair once he died he cut it not wanting to remember what his dad looked like and also to please his siblings

Now he's moved on from that and is growing out his hair again :3
