DRAGON HUNTERS ─ 

An underground organization of people hoping to gain control of the academy and their supply of dragons. The higher ranking members mostly do have dragons, that have either been stolen, bought, taken from nests or otherwise illegally acquired. These people are ruthless, brought in or raised to be soldiers for the cause. Some truly believe they are fighting for a righteous cause, others just want to destroy the academy for fun or revenge. The members mostly consist of ex-riders, bounty hunters and criminals, that or their children. 

Their preferred method is capturing dragons when they can, either holding on to them or trying to retrain them. If the rider is captured too, and they seem especially close, they may see it as easier to try to get the rider to join them, through blackmail, threats, manipulation or other methods. The Academy has lost a concerning number of riders through this, but are attempting to keep the problem secret, thinking it will be easier to deal with that way. 

The higher ups keep lower ranking members in the dark for the most part, and as you get higher in rank you are able to learn more about the operations. Rising the ranks is coveted above all else. Sometimes, they will send a lower ranking member in apply to the academy, if they are able to get in and bring a dragon back, they will be celebrated and rewarded. If not, then they would not have been strong enough to join their ranks in the first place. Many of their cadets aspire to 'earn' a dragon of their own, as that is the main mark of a high-ranking individual inside the organization.
