the name percival is of french origin, invented by a twelfth century poet by the name of chretien de troyes when writing a poem titled percevale, a knight of king arthur. the name has also been found in other works of literature.

MARCELLUS ——
meaning "young warrior"
this name is also of french origin, used back in ancient roman times as a family name, first used by marcus claudius marcellus who was an important military leader, and was later used by two popes. this is percival's middle name.

LAST NAME ——
as part of the royal family, percival is not tied to a last name.

PERCY ——
though in technicality 'percy' isn't an actual nickname for 'percival', it hasn't stopped anyone from calling him it. he doesn't mind it, and would much rather be called by this name then his full one ( "it sounds like you're yelling at me- 'percival marcellus, you come down here right this instant!'" ).

CIVAL ——
when him and his brother — prince augustus — were much younger, and his brother was still learning his words, he would always call percival 'cival'. it was something that annoyed percy greatly, and he would always scold augustus. ( "it's percival. not cival. percival." ) as they grew older, it stuck. percy only allows his brother to call him this.

there has been a variation of nicknames from a variation of people. many have come from strangers he's met throughout england. it's ranged from pet names to insults.

at first percival though he was straight — though doesn't everybody? as time went on he began to notice that he felt the same way towards men as he did women. when confessing this to his mother, who secretly was quite against the idea of him marrying a man ( " the royal bloodline must go on! " ) told him he did love men, in a way — love for a woman felt the same as his friendship with a man. this seems to be something he convinces himself of at times, though the truth can come out through alcohol — after all, aren't drunken words ( or perhaps actions ) just sober thoughts? ( "women? yes. men? also yes. )

percy is his own person — he doesn’t often like to be told who he is supposed to be. he is strong-minded; persuasion is useless on him once he’s made up his mind. if he wants something, he will do anything in his power to get it. at times he can seem cold-hearted, but really he’s just more reserved in emotional aspects. this is often because he doesn’t truly understand what it is that he is feeling. percival likes to feel strong and in control; powerful. despite this, the prince strays away from the inevitable power the throne of england possesses. power can be miserable when the weight of your decisions can affect an entire kingdom. there is the constant pressure of preparing to take the place of queen victoria, and he’d much rather trade his life with someone in the kingdom. the expectations are unbearable. percy is incredibly ambitious, striving to be better than those around him, and succeed in everything he does. the eldest prince is bold, and reckless at times. he has a disregard for his personal health, indulging in drinking and smoking. you only live one life though, right? percival is playful, and charming, good at imitating emotions and manipulating those of others. he has a way with words, knowing just what to say to get someone to fall for him— yet, he hasn’t married. he won’t be king any time soon, so there is no need for a queen. the idea of marrying simply doesn’t appeal to him currently. percy would much rather be able to do what he wants without the commitment.

BOXING ——
into more aggressive sports because of how it makes him feel like no one can stop him, percy has done boxing for a while. it's a way to pour out all of his built up emotion, and clear his head in a way.

FENCING ——
his mother made him start fencing when he was younger, and has encouraged the continuation of it. he does it to please her, but it isn't as well-paced as he'd like it to be.

POACHING ——
another more aggressive thing, percival partakes in poaching regularly. usually accompanied by his brother and a few other men.

HORSEBACK RIDING ——
he goes out riding when he has the spare time.
FLIRTING ——
it's a hobby ;)

ALCOHOL ——
he has a slight alcohol addiction. percy loves the feeling of being drunk. he has a few different stages of drunkenness; the first stage of being drunk causes him to become a bit more reckless, a bit more playful, a bit more care-free. the second stage can often lead to him being a bit more dangerous, and often very sexual. the last stage is the worst— he doesn't feel anything, and often is completely emotionless. though he usually drinks red wine, he loves vodka as well.

POETRY ——
poetry is one of his favorite things, with the flow of the writing, the beautiful big meaningful words, the and pictures it paints. his mother used to read poems to him when he couldn't fall asleep.

SMOKING ——
once percy started, he couldn't stop. it's a bad habit to have, but one he hasn't been able to break. he doesn't smoke all the time, but it's still enough to effect him. a few times he's tried hiding his packs of cigarettes from himself, but the longest he's gone was a few weeks before he retrieved them.

it's unnecessary. people are so bent on the idea that everything needs to be a certain way. if they just stepped back and let other people do their thing, they would live such a more content life. really, it shouldn't exist.

it has its ups and downs. though he isn't fond of it in general, it has provided him with some opportunities.

they are stunning, amazing, beautiful, breathtaking people ;)

it's the same with homosexuality as it is with sexism. let people live their own lives. stop getting in the middle of them. it's not your concern what someone does or doesn't do, unless it is truly terrible.
