Gwendolyn Stacy hated Peter Parker. She has since sixth grade when he said something that she didn't like. She was always trying to be better in school than him. And she was good at reading people. Once he started to leave at random times and act weird, she knew something was up.

When a superhero Spiderman appears, Gwen started to think who it could be. It wasn't until she went on a trip for school and Peter disappeared and Spiderman saved her in a falling elevator. It's when she knew that he was Spiderman. Because Spiderman called her Gweny. No one except Peter called her that.

So Gwendolyn followed him everywhere after this. She was determined and sure Spiderman was her ex-best friend.
