RORY JONES :: in the Deep End chapter, next to the empty form!

CEDAR UNDERWOOD :: Cedar can be summed up in: *pats head stiffly*. They keep up walls around their true feelings, act very distant and gruff, and aren't quick to trust. That doesn't mean they're mean (well, actually--). Cedar tries to give everyone the respect they deserve. If you've done nothing to gain their respect, then you get the horns. Sometimes literally. Cedar is good at knowing when to be honest and when to lie, but says both so brutally point-blank, it's hard to ever tell when they're doing either. The best course of action when dealing with Cedar is to just respect nature, laugh at their dry-humor jokes and be nice to Estelle. They feel very big-sibling-y over Estelle, partially because both their parents emphasized how important it is to protect her. Cedar agrees, Estelle needs extra protection. But Cedar takes their duty as they take all their duties: with outward grumbling, but inner satisfaction. They enjoy knowing they have a purpose, a mission to complete, and even if it looks like Cedar is doing absolutely nothing, they're working hard all the time. Cedar is a glass-half-empty kind of person. If you can even trust that it's a glass at all. What if it's plastic? In their mind, you question everything. Never take anything at face value, always be prepared, and most importantly, always be fluid. Don't let someone get the better of you, don't act off emotion or assumption unless you look the fool. Cedar won't be made fun of, and they won't tolerate looking like an idiot either. They have very little patience to begin with, but even less with those who lack common sense and intuition. 

VERADIS :: We can start off with the fact that Veradis simply doesn't understand humans. She thinks they're fascinating, funny and fun to play with, but she has no clue why they do the things they do. Well, most of them at least. It does help that New Rome certainly works more like a wolf pack than CHB, but humans still do irrational, emotional things that Veradis just can't handle. And so in turn laughs at them and turns everything into a game. Vera is very playful, always willing to go romping around a field or even play fetch. Other wolves might find it degrading, but Veradis likes watching humans run after her when they realize she's not bringing back their collapsable spears. Cunning, inventive and intuitive, Veradis is a lot more like humans than she thinks. Morally, compared to humans, she's very cold. Much like her mother, Lupa, she knows that deaths are part of life. You must fight to survive at the risk of others. In Veradis' mind, the Order of Importance goes: Duty, Life, Feelings. First is her duty to whatever she's pledged herself to: the pack, New Rome, making sure Cyrus doesn't die. Then her own life, where if her duty has been completed, then everything else may go to hell as she escapes for her own safety. Last is feelings, but those aren't really important. Veradis has no hesitation in killing anything that might threaten the first two. She takes her duties very seriously, but she's also developmentally a child in the wolf pack. She is attentive and bright-eyed and at the ready all the time, but she sees things very simply. She has not yet grasped the ambivalence of humans yet, not like her mother has, but she hopes to some day. 

bonus, MAVIS :: Mavis is the little raven you can see in the bottom right of Veradis' moodboard. He's not around often, usually only when Veradis makes a kill because he's hungry, but he's a very good friend to Veradis. He's their eyes in the skies. Initially, as a pup, Veradis recruited him to keep an eye out for her pack, and in return he could have twenty percent of her kills, but their little business deal turned into a good friendship, and now Mavis is willing to help Veradis out for free. As long as she shares her meals for free. 

ASUKA MIKAN :: You would never expect hyper, chipper, destructive Asuka to be junior priest to Cyrus Hathaway, but here we are. You can blame the duality of her godly parent, Janus, who gave her such a contrasting personality, that it's hard to grasp even if you've known her her whole life. Asuka is... *polite word for destructive*... innovative. She does things her way, whether it's jumping over a fence instead of crossing a field or exploding a wall because it's in her way. And yes, she has access to explosives. Asuka is curious, nosy and less than subtle. She might be very good at sneaking around, but if she gets caught, her two options are burst into tears until her captor is uncomfortable (works very well in New Rome) or throw a bomb and run away. She can't lie very well, has a hard time thinking on her feet. She's all action, no reaction. She calls it her Greek-- this chaotic and childish side of her. But Asuka has a serious gravity when need be. She can sober up and take charge, be a leader, albeit an unconventional one. It's almost like seeing another person, watching this thirteen year old bark orders like she's been made to do it all her life. Stern Asuka is rather like a harsh old teacher. No exceptions, no extra credit, and certainly no gum in her classroom or you will fail this semester. Plus she's got explosives to actually threaten people with, so when Asuka turns Roman, people listen. All Asuka really wants is to have a purpose in camp. When she's Greek all the time, people never take her seriously, and don't give her a chance (gee wonder why). The only position of power she could get was junior priest because literally nobody else wanted it. Asuka doesn't mind, she likes helping people hear from the gods and all those other priestly duties, and she does enjoy torturing Cyrus. But her plan is to be praetor one day, shake up camp a little, but ultimately make sure it's stronger than Old Rome ever was.

okay so kinda big cast, but like i said in the announcement, half are mine and the other half are side characters, so really it'll be fine. there are a LOT more side characters that haven't been included in the official cast, but that's either because they came in later and i got impatient to release this, and also because there's just so many of them i'd surpass the chapter limit T-T

anyways, thanks for your support! a really, really big thank you to everyone who applied but especially to those who didn't get to have their OC be a big character! i'm so sorry to those who i didn't accept, but i wanted to write this story to the best of my ability, and some characters i had more trouble picturing than others. hopefully next time i'll get to do your characters justice <3

and was the judgement call to make one of my characters a wolf weird? maybe, but do i care? no. i like wolves. and it's rome, so. they like wolves too.
