Another perspective

" we keep going round and round in circles "

They stood on the edge of a field not far away from their regular meeting place and stared into the starry-night sky. This place was special, for as beautiful as it was, it was the first place Charlotte and Damon had called theirs.

"You could think everything is perfect," The brunette whispered remembering the last month where she had been so happy. Damon took a step towards her and hugged her from behind.

"Right now, everything is," He answered and kissed her neck. She closed her eyes, "Someday this all will be over," He suddenly said fully convinced and she almost believed him. Almost.

She turned around to look at him.

"Do you really think that?" He nodded and smiled encouragingly.

"Here is going to be our house." He said pointing to the wide field in front of them. She laughed along but tried to imagine how it would be to live with him- as impossible as it seemed.

"Just us two, away from anyone else." She grinned brightly.

"With our adopted children." She added, deciding to play along, "Like the ones we saw last week."

"Three." He said without thinking and she didn't question it.

"Katherine, Elizabeth and Stefan," He looked surprised at her, but went along with it.

"And one day, I will come home from work and you will just finish helping getting dinner ready and our eldest daughter will come to visit with her husband," They both started laughing. She leaned against him, "And then they will wonder how you are still the most beautiful person in the household."

"That would be too nice." She whispered.

"One day." He promised.

She smiled at him, "It's a beautiful dream."

There was silence for a few moments as Damon gazed at the girl in his arms, "You know that I love you, right?"

Charlotte sighed, "Yes. I do- as I love you," she spoke, "I just... I wish you didn't have to go."

Damon closed his eyes, "I am so sorry, Char, and if there was any other way I wouldn't be going."

"I know," Charlotte tried her best not to cry, "I love you so much"

"I will come back soon, as fast as I can," the Salvatore spoke.

Charlotte turned her head so she could see his face, "Promise?"

"I promise, my love," Damon kissed her lips lightly, "You are my person."

"And you are mine."

Present: 2010, October 23rd 10.38 EST

Mystic Falls VA

Damon and Stefan stood outside the Grill, an uncomfortable silence over their heads as they waited for Alaric to come out with Kol. The brothers were going through a rough time, all the issues that haunted them ever since 1864 increasing at the arrival of Charlotte.

"Look Damon," Stefan began saying, "There's something I need to-"

His words were cut off by Alaric walking out of the grill trying to support the weights of two vampires.

"Here, grab them!" the hunter grunted and Damon flashed next to him when he saw that for some reason Charlotte was there too.

"I told you not to touch her," the raven-haired man raised his eyebrows, "How dare you–"

"Damon–"

"Look she was right there next to him alright!" Alaric tried to reason, "And Meredith vervained her."

"I didn't want her to be a part of this!" The older Salvatore rolled his eyes before taking the Pierce woman in his own arms and then whispered, "She hates getting vervained."

"She was already a part of it, Damon." Stefan tried to tell his brother.

"Shut up, Stefan."

Suddenly Klaus rushed over, undaggered Kol and and pushed Damon off Charlotte before knocking Alaric against the wall. Stefan, acting stupidly tried to attack Klaus too but the hybrid was quick to also knock him out.

"I should have killed you years ago," Klaus glared at the man who once used to be called his best friend, "And I should have killed you the second I knew you were here."

"Do it," Damon shrugged, his eyes not leaving Charlotte's unconscious body, "It's not going to stop Esther from killing you."

Klaus took a step forward before asking, "What did you say about my mother?"

"You didn't know I was friends with your mummy?" Damon teased just as the brunette started to wake up, the originals were probably doing the same, "Yeah, we have a lot in common. She hates you as much as I am starting to."

Klaus was just about to attack Damon when the voice of Elijah appeared at the top of the stairs.

"Leave him!" The man spoke just as Kol stood up, helping Charlotte to her feet, "We still need them, Niklaus."

"What did mother do?" Klaus asked before turning to look at the noble man who made his way down the stairs holding out his phone, "What did she do, Elijah?"

"You tell me where the witches are," Elijah raised his eyebrows before sending a small smile to the brunette who seemed to be glaring at Damon, "Or I'll have my sister kill Elena right now."

Damon looked up at the clock tower and saw that it was only half-past eight, "You told me we had until after nine."

Elijah shrugged, "I'm sure Rebekah will be more than happy to start her work early."

Charlotte shook her head and Damon tried his best not to stare at her, everyone knew she was beautiful but Damon always saw her another way... enchanting may be the right word.

"What's happening, Eli?" She groaned, "One thing I know I was keeping Kol from murdering people and the next thing I am vervained!" She glared at Damon– "Which he knows I hate!"

Damon's eyes opened wide when he realized Charlotte was blaming him, "I didn't vervain you! Ric did even after I told him to keep you out of everything happening here."

Damon said the last part trying his best not to remove Alaric's head from his body. It's not like he would really die, anyway. Maybe.

They weren't sure what would happen if something like that were to happen.

"Children," Elijah interrupted, "Let's not fight. we have a lot to deal with and very little time. Damon and Stefan, stop the ritual and Stanislava–"

"I am going with the brothers," Charlotte declared nonchalantly and the Originals didn't question her, "I don't want to see Rebekah's face."

Damon looked at his ex-wife in confusion, "You want to spend time with me? Voluntarily?"

Charlotte rolled her eyes, "Well, don't throw a damn parade."

Damon, Stefan and Charlotte pulled up into the woods near the Old Witch House in Damon's car.

"So how do we know they're going to be in this poorly kept place?" Charlotte asked in annoyance.

"We don't," The younger Salvatore answered, "But if they're not, then we have about ten minutes until Rebekah tears Elena apart."

"Wait–" Charlotte winced, "That's where Rebekah is? I could have gone there and saved the doppelganger's life."

"Why didn't you?" Damon asked as they walked.

"Well, I slapped her so she is very likely to kill me," The Petrova shrugged, "And I kind of like Elena, she was kind enough to help me with a place at night while my best friend shacked up with my ex-husband."

"We are technically still married," Damon spoke ignoring the fact that she knew who he slept with last night.

"Don't care."

There was silence for a while."You know," Damon spoke up, "If we sit this out, Esther completes her spell, Klaus dies, you get your revenge. It's what you wanted the whole time. The only collateral damage is...."

Charlotte didn't speak, she knew this was just them contemplating life. They wouldn't go along with it. If they were, Charlotte wouldn't have known.

"Elena," Stefan answered.

Damon shrugged, "You know what she'd choose."

It annoyed Charlotte how well Damon seemed to know the carbon copy of her big sister.

"She'd let herself be killed to save her friend," Stefan replied.

"Yep."

"Hm," The Salvatore brothers paid no attention to Charlotte, "If we do this, it'll wreck her."

"Well, she'll hate us," Damon spoke, "Thing is, she only has to hate one of us. Only one of us has to do the actual deed."

Stefan smirked, "So, who's it gonna be, brother?"

Charlotte rolled her eyes, "Boys, you can't be serious."

Stefan raised an eyebrow at her, "Doesn't this conversation seem awkward to you, Charlotte?"

Charlotte shook her head and even though she knew it was a lie she said, "Nope."

Damon pulled out a coin from his pocket, "Well, heads I do it, tails you do it."

"Awful lot of effort for someone who pretends not to care about her any more," Stefan remarked as the three gathered around the coin.

"Pot, kettle, brother."

Damon flipped the coin, caught it and put it on top of his other hand. He was about to remove his hand to show the other two the result when Charlotte covered it and spoke–

"I will do it."
