CHAPTER FORTY SEVEN—
vance's call.

"Gwen." Sarah gapped as she sat up, hearing her yelling. "Who the hell are you talking to?"

"Jesus." she said back with a scoff. "Hs is an asshole."

"Why are you calling Jesus an asshole?" she rubbed her eyes and threw her legs over the bed.

"No dreams! I even asked for them." she shook her head in disbelief. "Like, what the fuck?"

"What the fuck is right?" Sarah agreed as she sat on the ground with her. "Jesus, what the fuck is your problem?"

"Seriously, what the hell is wrong with you?" Gwen agreed as she looked up at the ceiling, the little cross in hand. "You let the Grabber take Finney, right? And don't tell me that you don't get involved because you've been giving me these dreams."

Sarah rubbed her back in comfort as Gwen exhaled. "Unless....maybe you're not even real."

The girls shared a frowning look as Sarah rubbed Gwen on the head. "I'll take you to school."

"Okay." Gwen nodded. "I just want to take a bath first."

"Okay." Sarah helped her to her feet. "I have to go do something first, but i'll be back. Swear."

Gwen hugged her. "Swear."

Sarah just really hoped she could keep that promise and this would not backfire, even though it might have been one of the worst ideas she ever had.

"Son of a bitch." Finney wipped his bloody nose when he woke up from being knocked out the night prior. The phone rung as he looked back at it. "No. Fuck you. Goddamn it."

He stood up and yanked the phone off the wall, sitting back down. "What? You gonna say somethin? Do you even know who you are?"

"What the shit kind of question is that?" sadness did not exist here, there was absolutely nothing but anger. "Do you even know who you are?"

"I'm Finney Blake." he blinked, smacked into place by that tone.

"Yeah, I know who you are, Finney Blake!" he yelled at him as Finney pulled the phone back a little bit. "You little shit head. I'm so glad I don't have to deal with you anymore."

It made sense then. Finney wasn't sure why he didn't click at first. But, whoever was in the other line clearly wasn't his biggest fan. And Finney could think about one person who really did not like him. "Vance? H-Vance Hopper? You know your name?"

"Right here. This is it." Vance ignored him.

"This is what?" Finney asked him.

"The horrifying nightmare end of your pathetic little life." Vance said in return, annoyance in his already angry tone. Finneys eyed winded a bit. "What's wrong? Scared?"

"You use to scare me." Finney said honestly. "When you and Sarah-"

"Don't!" Vance warned him immediately. "Don't talk about her. I don't wanna hear about it."

"Okay." Finney had to understand where he was coming from.

"Trust me, Finney Blake. If you knew what you had coming, you'd be fucking terrified." Vance spoke like it was a threat, but Finney knew he was talking about something else. "Todays the day, motherfucker!"

"You really don't wanna talk about her?" Finney asked. He had a feeling maybe Vance would be on the phone eventually, and he felt like he'd have the most to say.

"No. I don't wanna fucking talk about her." Vance said back. He was so angry, beyond angry. "She's being a fucking idiot right now. I'm gonna kick her ass and it's your fault!"

"My fault? Where is she?" Finney asked him with wide eyes.

"She'll be fine. She's just an idiot." Vance rolled his eyes. "If you would have ran a little faster, non of this would have happened."

"She misses you." Finney had to say it. "She left town because she missed you so much."

"Don't you think I know that?" Vance rose his voice even more. "Then you and everyone else lied to her for months."

"About Bruce." Finney sense that anger. "We were scared she'd hurt herself again."

"Yeah, well too fucking late." Vance scoffed, then he was quiet. "Did she go to Aspen?"

"Yeah, in January." Finney told him. "Almost two years ago. Five months after you went missing."

Vance sat there for a minute. "Why'd she come back?"

"Because of Robin." he told him. "She sat by your pinball machine when she first came home."

"Looks like you got your pathetic little wish now, didn't you?" Vance mocked Finney. "Maybe you will get to marry her."

"Maybe." Finney felt good when he said it, even though he knew he shouldn't have. "Why don't you want to talk about her? The other boys do."

"Because." was all Vance said back. "Have you tried stacking the carpets to reach the window?"

"I've tried everything." Finney answered.

"No! Not everything." he yelled at him. "When the Grabber saw what I had done, that was it. And he took his time with me, too."

"What did you do?" Finneys eyes got a little wider.

"Oh, that fucker had to spend a fortune to repair all the damages!" he seemed happy then, like it excited him.

"What did you do?" Finney pushed for an answer.

"I'm getting to that, cunt wad!" Vance yelled as him for interrupting his dramatic effects story. "Or you have some other important shit you have to do right now?"

"No, no, no." Finney stood up. "I'm listening."

"There's an outlet in the shitter. Across from the john." Vance pointed out.

"Yeah. I've seen it." he blinked to recall his memory.

"On the other side of that wall, there's a storage room. Can't get into that room, because there just a big ass upright freezer in the way." Vance explained as Finney gave him the okay. "Break into the wall about two feet above the outlet till you get to a panel with screws in it. Get the panel off with the flashlight Sheeps got you, and you're into the freezer."

"And then out into the storage room." Finney confined the end of the story, clutching his flashlight in hand. "Do you want me to tell her anything? If I get back."

"It's too late." Vance said back. "She's already there."

"Already where?" Finney asked. "Maybe I can stop her."

"This is your fault. She's doing this for you." Vance said back, even more annoyed. "If you get to her first, just tell her that what she said on the last night before I got taken, at that stupid party, that I felt that way too."

"What'd she say?" Finney couldn't help himself. "The end of the year party?"

"Use what I told you, don't be an idiot while I try to get her back. You better be there by the time I do." Vance threatened him loudly.

"I will." Finney nodded his head. "Thank you."

"Thank you?" Vance asked him in disbelief. "For what?"

"For helping me." Finney said back with a little shrug.

"Helping you? This isn't about you!" Vance yelled at him as he walked closer. "Fuck him!"

His voice rung loudly in Finneys ears, shattering the glass bottles as he backed up against the floor. He nodded, looking at the photo of Billy and Sarah. "I'm on my way."

"Holy shit. Holy shit." Sarah braced herself, her knuckles paling as she clutched the steering wheel. "You're such an idiot. You're such an idiot, Sarah. What the fuck?"

She spoke to herself as she inhaled deeply, sitting there and catching her breathe. "You'll be okay. Bruce will send you back. You'll find a way. A storm is coming. You'll be okay."

She looked out of the window shield, the first drop of rain hitting as Sarah scooted her chair closer to the steering wheel for good measures. "Finney needs you, you gotta make sure he's not already gone. You'll be okay. You got this. Stop fucking talking to yourself, Sar."

She grasped the gear shift, yanking it into drive as she slammed her foot onto the gas, driving herself into the lake.

Sarah gasped as she opened her eyes. She didn't knew when they shut, but they had. She was on the bank of the lake, Sarah knew it hadn't worked the way it did last time. She clutched the mud under her as she inhaled, preparing for a sob.

"You are such a fucking moron, Sheeps". Vance stood above her, staring down in disbelief.
