That's what Peter always dreamt about - sitting on his bed, still young and happy about the idea of love and everything that came with it

That wasn't who he was anymore... not since she left.

"Hello, Peter," she spoke, sitting on his desk- wearing an MIT sweatshirt, her hair in a messy bun. It was as if she was really there. He had to fight the urge to reach out to her - feel her and know that she was real.

She wasn't.

"Why am I here again?" The boy questioned, running his hands though his hair- he hadn't been in his room ever since he moved into the Compound almost two years ago- he was sure he once heard May say that she changed into her 'art room'.

The woman shrugged, "Why are you here every night? Some things will always remain unanswered, my love."

"D-Don't call me that," Peter growled in anger before getting up and reaching for the door- which didn't open. He was locked in there - trapped in the memory... trapped with a ghost.

"And why is that, Peter?" she asked- a twisted smile on her face. It was the same etched in his brain, the very one that made you feel afraid of her.

Peter rolled his eyes, annoyed as he answered, "Because you're not her."

The woman scoffed, "Well, of course. She's one of a kind, darling."

She stopped, letting silence fill up the room for a few moments before speaking again- "You still love her?"

"Stop talking."

"I'm sorry, Pete. You know how much revenge meant to her... even you couldn't have gotten in her way. You know exactly who she was."

The Parker boy ignored her, finding his way to balcony just outside of his room, so he could watch New York City in all of its nightly glory. He tried his best to remind himself that it was only a dream. If he dared to believe it, even for a second, Peter knew that by the time he woke up, he would break.

"You need to leave, Katherine," Peter spoke, not aware of the lone tear that escaped his eye, "You shouldn't be here."

"You know that I'm not really here, right?" she asked, "You know what happened to me- you felt me die."

"LEAVE!"

"Don't send me away, Peter," Katherine spoke, turning her head to look at the boy who glared at her. This wasn't what he wanted - he was done being scared of seeing her every night. She was nothing but a twisted memory of a girl he knew, a girl he should have known would leave him- because he that's what Katherine Pierce did- she ran when things got hard.

"Why?" he asked, "Why shouldn't I?"

She sent him a soft smile, her face looking more like the woman he loved. She leaned down to his ear and whispered words that sent chills down his spine, "Because you know I won't come back."

It was a fine day at the Avenger's compound as its residents went about their usual day- relaxed without the threat of missions, alien invasions, or world ending events hanging over their heads. There was a calmness in the air as most of the Avengers sat together in what Peter thought of as their 'living room', that is if they were a normal family.

Nevertheless, they weren't a normal family- just a bunch of freaks with amazing powers and suits that looked awesome.

The Avengers were finally back together, having regrouped at the compound. Tony and his legal team had been able to amend the accords and even pardon the old heroes of their crimes. It took some time and a lot of work, but they eventually got it done. Not to mention Ross being... well Ross. It got to the point where Peter had to be the one that just had to tell him to stick it in a juice box and suck it because at that point the man was just sounding like a child whining about too much broccoli on his plate.

From where he sat beside Steve Rogers (Peter was totally crushing the Capsicle at Mario Kart), the boy could see Thor and Bucky in the kitchen- one eating pop-tarts while the other baked cookies. Tony and Bruce were probably in the lab while Natasha and some of the other's trained in the Gym.

"How do you do that?" Steve groaned, sore that Peter had defeated him once again.

"It's called talent, Captain," Peter said as he let out a soft laugh, "And I- Um I had a friend when I was young who was amazing at this game. I picked up few things."

Peter had lied- he hadn't had a lot of friends while growing up in Portland. His first friend was Ned whom he had met on the first day of high school- a boy that Peter was surprised hadn't ran away the second he met the Parker boy. The person Peter talked about had been his little brother Joey who-

"Peter!" Wanda called out, storming into the room., "For the love of God, could you please stop teaching Bucky all of your stupid tech things? I woke up to at least fifty different memes of me trending on twitter!""

Peter laughed, "Oh please tell him to send them to me!"

"Peter!"

"Look I am sorry, Wanda but he promised to give me some amazing young Steve photos that I needed!" Peter shrugged, "I will give you access to those if you promise not to kill me."

Wanda nodded, as if in deep thought- "Fine."

"Good Afternoon, Avengers," FRIDAY's voice startled the people in the room, "I apologize for disturbing but it seems like Director Fury requires your presence in the conference room."

Katherine Pierce did not have a lot of regrets. She was a woman- born in a century which was very unlike this one and back then, she had to learn how to stand on her own feet and not let any man take advantage of her. Katherine had spent so long trying to be better than the rest- to not let the weight of her increasing enemies break her that the woman didn't realize that she was already broken.

The idea of being broken did not ever occur to her until she met a boy who was so much like her- haunted by a past that he would rather forget.

Now, don't get her wrong, Katherine had been in love before with countless men and women, people like Elijah, Stefan and Damon always standing out on her list but then, perhaps, she hadn't known what love was- at least not until she met the awkward teenager who stole her heart.

She loved Peter and that's why she let him go.

And this was what the Petrova woman was thinking about as she watched the entire other side break down- she cursed herself from him and letting herself get stuck in Mystic Falls again. For so long, Katherine had been so fixated on surviving that she had forgotten what it was like to truly live.

She missed him at those moments as she realized she was going to truly die- she missed the accidental meetings, the dates at Delamar's and the smell of his aunt's detergent as he hugged her close. She missed him.

Katherine knew Peter kept secrets- but there was something so pure about both of them that the woman never felt the need to know.

She watched the winds that carried away lost souls and from the shadows she watched as Lexi and Stefan reunited on the other side. She watched the smile on the younger Salvatore's face and realized that Stefan's passing did not hurt her as much as she thought it would. Sure, Stefan hated Katherine for what happened in 1864 (and a few other things that happened in these past few years) but both the Salvatore brothers did not understand how she had saved them. If it hadn't been for her, they wouldn't have any purpose, would have stayed unknown to true emotions in a small town in the 1800s and they wouldn't have found Elena.

Nobody understood just how important Katherine was.

And after all of this was over, there was a big chance no one ever would.

Katherine walked out, for some reason finding her way back to the cemetery. The woman longed for a man that she couldn't have as she made her way unknowingly to a certain Bennett witch.

She wanted to apologize- a need of something that didn't come naturally to her. She wanted to tell Peter how sorry she was for ruining what they had and for lying to him- she wanted to apologize for making him forget her.

"Elena?" the sound of Bonnie Bennett cut through her thoughts, "What happened? How did you- Please tell me-"

Katherine remembered the last time she had seen Bonnie Bennett- the witch had laughed as the falling of the other side tried to make the Pierce woman it's victim but Katherine was a survivor.

"I- Bonnie- I don't know how this happened," Katherine cried, slipping into an act she knew would be easy- the act of her pathetic doppelganger, "The traveller's they got to me."

"Oh god Elena," Bonnie cried, "I am so sorry! I know a way to get you back."

Yes, because Elena Gilbert deserves to live.

"What do you mean?" Katherine asked in the whiny voice she usually connected to Elena.

"The travellers," Bonnie spoke, tears evident in her eyes, "When they passed through me, the other side got weakened. Just hold my hand and I guess you can get through."

Katherine knew Bonnie was hiding something. When you are a liar, you start to know when other's are lying to you.

"Some thing is gonna happen to you if I do this, right?" the woman spoke, "I- Oh my God, you will die with the other side."

For the first time in her life, Katherine admired the Bennett girl. She was young- too young to have gone through so much pain.

"I am sorry Elena but I am going to die, anyway," Bonnie shook her head, making her way towards Katherine.

Katherine closed her eyes, "You are very brave Bonnie Bennett," she spoke taking the witches' hand in her own- feeling the life come back to her as she stepped back onto the other side just when Caroline found her way there.

"I hope you make it out, ัะผะตะปะฐ ะถะตะฝะฐ," The Petrova woman said genuinely and watched as Bonnie realized who exactly she let pass through, "I am truly sorry for hurting you."

And then Katherine ran towards the woods, faster then ever, fully aware of the fact that she was now just a human and that there was no chance Peter would ever remember then.

Perhaps surviving was the only punishment fit for a woman like her.
