Elizabeth Stevens had to watch as the love of her life, James Buchanan Barnes, was shipped off to fight in the war with the other soldiers, some of which would never return.

As a woman, Elizabeth could never fight for her country like James could. So she did the next best thing. She became a nurse near enough the front lines.

Elizabeth missed James dearly. She hated not seeing him everyday, or be able to run to him for comfort. The only thing keeping her from going crazy was writing him letters. She would reminisce about their old lives, how they would dance until their feet were numb or sing until their voices were hoarse.

The last thing either of them expected was for James to go missing behind enemy lines, no longer able to reply to her letters.
