HOLY SMOKES

eight. hickey

Boone groaned a little as he stirred awake. He blinked a few times before his eyes focused, and a smile tugged at his lips. He rolled onto his side before pulling the sleeping blonde closer to him.

She groaned a little, but settled against him. Her forehead pressed into his chest, her palms pressed against his stomach. Her head was on his bicep and her hair was a mess, she was sure.

But she couldn't bring herself to care as she snuggled into him, her legs tangling with his.

She kept her eyes closed, wanting to make the moment last just a little bit longer. Her fingers trailed up his bare chest towards the cross that hung around his neck.

She smiled as she wrapped her fingers around it, brushing her thumb over it.

“G’mornin’.” He mumbled, pulling her in closer and she chuckled a little, pressing a kiss to his chest.

“Can't believe you still wear it.”

“‘Course I still wear it.” He kissed her forehead, bringing a smile to her lips. “Never take it off. I’m curious ‘bout your necklace though.”

Her cheeks flushed as she looked down, her fingers wrapping around the ring, “you noticed that, did ya?”

“I notice everythin’ ‘bout you.”

She smiled, snuggling into him again as she closed her eyes and took a breath. “Had to take it off for work, couldn't risk losin’ it when we were building housin’ for veterans. Been wearin’ it on a chain ever since.”

It warmed his heart, but he was curious, “why still wear it?”

“You know why, Boone.” She mumbled, her finger delicately drawing lines across his torso. “Same reason you still wear that silly cross.”

He smiled, because of course she knew. She knew he still wore it because he still loved her, even after ten years. And she felt the same way, even if neither were gonna admit it out loud.

He wrapped his arms around her, then rolled onto his back, pulling her on top of him. She giggled as she leaned down, her bare body pressed against his. Then she softly brushed her lips against his, he hummed leaning up to press his lips more firmly against hers as his fingers tangled in her hair.

She shifted against him, rolling her hips against his with a moan making him groan as his eyes fluttered closed. His hand tightened on her hips, fingers pressing into her skin.

“Baby, you're killin’ me.”

“I’d never.” She mumbled, kissing the underside of his jaw.

“You keep on and we ain't leavin’ this bed.”

“Good.” She mumbled, slotting her lips against his as her tongue traced his lips. He moaned against her, wrapping his arms around her before flipping them over so her back was pressed into the mattress.

She wrapped her legs around his waist, lifting her hips to meet his. He groaned as he trailed his lips down her jaw to her neck and she smiled as his facial hair tickled her skin.

She choked on a moan, her head thrown back, her nails dragged down his back as he slowly pushed into her.

“That's it, baby.” His pressed a kiss to her nose, then to her lips. “Takin' me so well.” He mumbled against her collar bone, leaving kisses against her skin as he rolled his hips into hers again and again.

She whimpered at his words of praise, and just how full she felt. How complete and whole she felt for the first time in ten years.

“I’m sorry… what?” Kelly’s voice came through the speaker of Magnolia’s phone from where it was sitting on the edge of the sink as the blonde dug through her makeup bag.

“A hickey!” Magnolia hissed. “I don’t know how to cover it up, never had to.”

Which was true, though Boone had left plenty on her when they were teenagers it was always where her clothes would cover it. He didn't want her daddy to hate him even more. And Boone loved when the weather got colder and she pulled out her turtlenecks.

“I don’t think I heard you right.” Kelly mumbled. “Did you say you had a hickey?”

“Yes, Kell, and I can’t have a hickey if I’m gonna be doin' these videos.”

Kelly was quiet for a moment, a long moment. So long that Magnolia had to check to make sure the call hadn’t dropped. “I’m face timing you.” The line dropped then her phone rang again, she answered it and held it up to see Kelly raise an eyebrow. “Show me.”

The blonde let out a little huff and tilted her head to the side and back a little bit so the purpling mark under her jaw could be seen. Kelly’s eyes went wide because it wasn’t just one, she had counted three.

“Who the hell attacked you?”

As if on cue, Boone stuck his head into the bathroom, “hey, baby, you almost ready?”

“Is that… is that cameraman?” Kelly asked, she could see him with the way the phone was.

Magnolia straightened up as she nodded, “Kelly, Boone. Boone, this is Kelly.”

“Howdy,” he grinned, waving as he leaned over Magnolia’s shoulder.

“Wait, Boone as in your first everything Boone?”

“Aww, angel, you told people ‘bout me.” He leaned over and kissed her cheek, which made her giggle.

“Maggie, sweetheart, you’re supposed to be helping people, not sleeping with your ex-boyfriend.”

“Hey, I’m doing my job just fine. And he’s a big part of that.” She told her, smiling at the way Boone wrapped his arms around her waist. “Now help me,” she told the girl on the phone.

“Okay, uh… you got concealer?”

“Can you hold this please?” she mumbled, handing Boone the phone as she moved towards her very small makeup bag.

“Hi,” he smiled at the girl on the screen but she narrowed her eyes at him.

“So you’re Boone.”

“Yep.”

She tilted her head as if she were studying him, “now I see why you didn’t like all the lawyers I set you up with.”

“Why did you keep- found it!” She smiled, holding the concealer up.

Boone’s eyes narrowed slightly, he didn’t like the idea of Magnolia out on dates with other men. “Well, what’s that supposed to mean?” He asked, his eyes briefly moving to the blonde as she dabbed some concealer onto his marks. He hated that she was covering them, but he understood why.

“You’re scruffy,” Kelly shrugged lightly.

“Kelly,” Magnolia warned.

“What? It’s not a bad thing. Just makes sense.” She hummed, raising a glass of wine up to her lips. “All I’m saying is-”

“Nothing,” Magnolia leaned over so she was in frame. “What next?”

“Sweetie, you really are hopeless,” she hummed, shaking her head a little. “Foundation.”

“Thank you,” she moved back to the sink and pulled out her foundation.

“So, Boone, I hear you drive into tornadoes.”

“Well, Ty drives, I’m just the cameraman.” He told her proudly.

“How did you even know that?” Magnolia asked, trying to get her foundation to look right as she blended it out.

“Hunter sent me a link to a video, said you had lost your mind. Haven’t watched it yet, but he was very worried.” She chuckled a little, “Now I see that it was jealousy. I told you he had a thing for you.”

“And I told you, l don’t like him like that.”

That made Boone smile at her, the camera now aimed at the wall behind his head because he was more focused on the blonde then he was the girl on facetime.

“And this isn’t working.”

“Maybe I can help,” Boone moved towards her, sitting the phone down before reaching behind his neck to untie his bandana. Magnolia just smiled at him as she leaned forward and secured it around her neck and it fell perfectly to cover the hickies he had left behind. “There.”

“See? You didn’t need me.” Kelly mumbled, chuckling a little. Magnolia rolled her eyes a little as she picked up the phone and turned towards the mirror, she ran her hand over the fabric and smiled. “Aww, you’re so cute, Maggie.”

“I agree,” Boone leaned forward and kissed her cheek making her blush.

“So, Kell, how’s work?”

“I miss you, everyone else gets annoyed when I hang out in their office like I do yours.” She told her. “But it’s been okay. I saw that you sent a few people back, everything alright?”

“Mostly, yeah. Just hard to see is all,” she mumbled, her eyes moving towards the girl on the screen. “Everyone else is still planning to come out here, right?”

“Yep, they’re heading out tomorrow morning, if there aren’t any delays they should be there around noon.”

“Good, if I can’t pick them, I’ll see if Hunter can.”

“So does Hunter know about you two?” Kelly raised an eyebrow, she could still see Boone as he leaned against the doorframe of the bathroom.

“Why does it matter?” The blonde asked, turning away from the mirror, a smile pulling at her lips as she neared Boone, she pushed up onto her toes and pressed a kiss to his lips as she passed him and he just smiled like an idiot.

“Just curious.” She shrugged. “So, what exactly are you two?”

Magnolia stopped for a moment, she wasn’t sure how to answer. She didn’t know anything other than she still loved him, she had always loved him. Boone came to her rescue, he wrapped his arm around her, pulling her back into his chest as he took the phone.

“We’ll let ya know.” With that he hung up and tossed her phone onto the bed. It was quiet for a few moments as he wrapped his other arm around and rested his chin on her shoulder. She moved her hands to cover his, her fingers trailing up and down his forearms.

“What are we?” She asked softly, almost like she was scared of the answer.

He smiled and leaned forward, pressing a quick kiss to her cheek, “we’ll figure it out.”

She hummed, nodding her head as she leaned into him. She turned her head a little, meeting his lips in a soft kiss. “They’re probably waitin’ for us.”

“They can wait a little longer,” he mumbled, turning her in his arms as he pressed his lips against hers more firmly. She giggled against him, wrapping her arms around his neck as she moved her lips against his.
