'I never thought I would
ever love someone because
they were incapable to love me
and here i found you.'

Maia thought everything was just going wrong. As much as she tried to convince everyone else that she was okay, she was also trying to convince herself.

With everyone doing their own thing and her being stuck in a bed with what felt like a constant throbbing in her head, was just horrible.

She had realised only now that she couldn't do anything, it had only been at least an hour and half since Glenn and the others had left her alone, every hour Hershel had been checking up on her to see if she was at least still responding in some sort even if she wasn't talking as much when he spoke to her.

Maggie had made Maia some food, trying to start up any sort of conversation with her but it just ended up a bit awkward because Maggie circled back to one topic: Anthony.

Maia understood why Maggie was asking about Anthony because it had been obvious that she liked him more than a friend but there was no guarantee that they were staying at the farm and god knows what they would do if they left now with Lori being pregnant and Maia's concussion, it was just...all messed up.

Anthony had been seemingly distancing himself from Maggie all day and the Greene woman had at least some hope that Maia knew why, yet she didn't.

———————

The door to the bedroom Maia laid in swung open, causing the Koa girl to turn her head in curiosity just to see who it was. It was Maggie.

Maia was laying on her side to prevent any more pain that already coursed through her skull, in turn she slowly attempted to sit up by turning ever so slowly to get stable enough to use her arms to stabilise her upper body to push herself up.

Propping herself against the headboard, Maia looked at Maggie with tired eyes, the dark circles under her eyes becoming more evident as the sun shines directly into the bedroom.

"Hey Maia, I brought you some food. I saw you were awake and thought you could use some food." Maggie sets a tray on the bedside table and Maia's eyes follow Maggie's every move, as if she was slowly zoning out.

"Maia?" Maggie spoke up confusedly and Maia blinked before looking at Maggie with slight doe eyes, they looked so innocent.

"Hm?" Maia hummed in a confused manner, she heard nothing of what Maggie said. She had been seemingly losing focus for the time being.

"Are you okay?" Maggie asked softly, looking at Maia concerned. Maia barely nodded her and sighed before closing her eyes, feeling the throbbing in her head again.

"I'm fine." Maia muttered with her eyes closed and then opened them again to be met with Maggie's concerned expression.

"What? I mean it." Maia replied with her eyes slightly unfocused, Maggie looked at her not believing anything she had said so far.

"You don't look fine." Maggie retorted and Maia sighed before she rested her head against the headboard.

"Well, I know you're not here to just check up on me and give me food, you're here to talk about Anthony and why he's being a little shit." Maia replied softly, her voice was tired and she sounded like she was slowly dozing off.

Maggie looked at Maia with an expression of shock, she didn't expect the brunette to put the pieces together so quickly yet she wasn't necessarily surprised either because she had a feeling Anthony would talk about him and her situation to Maia, after all the two were twin brother and sister.

Maggie shifted uncomfortably in her seat, averting eye contact for a few seconds before looking back at the young woman who had her head propped up against the headboard of the bed.

"Look, he's been acting weird and I have sort of- Anthony and I had this thing a few days ago and-." Maggie sighed, attempting to explain herself to Maia before she got briskly cut off by Maia's tired voice.

"I know. You guys hooked up behind the house, you weren't stealthy." Maia rested her head on the back board, closing her eyes for a brief moment.

Maggie gulped as she looked at Maia with wide eyes.

"Well, uhm." Maggie shifted awkwardly, to be quite fair Maia was not lying in the slightest, Maggie just did not want to admit it.

"You like my brother, way better than the last girl that's for sure." Maia huffed softly and closed her eyes again for a moment once more, this time keeping them closed for longer.

Maggie sighed and nodded.

"Look I don't know what I feel for him but we don't even know if you're staying so i just..." Maggie trailed off, she was confiding in Maia at this moment.

"It's okay to like someone, you know? He's just moody, you get used to it." Maia muttered, opening her eyes again and gazing at Maggie tiredly.

Maggie nodded, not replying with words just giving Maia a nod before tapping Maia's hand reassuringly.

"Eat, you'll feel better." Maggie softly stated before flattening the blanket out for Maia and wiping her hands on her jeans.

"See you Maia." Maggie's voice was soft as if she was contemplating something but she just earned a nod from a tired Maia.

And then Maggie was gone.

———————

Maggie had been in the kitchen for most of the day. She heard the entire conversation between Hershel and Rick, how Rick was attempting to plead their case.

"Hi, honey." Hershel greeted his daughter who didn't look up at him.

"Carl doesn't need any more of my help." Hershel held a coffee mug in his hand and Maggie shook her head.

"So that's it? You're not gonna help Maia?" Maggie glanced at her father and then back to what she was doing.

"Rick was trying to make his case." Hershel ignored Maggie's attempt to bring up Maia in the bed.

"It'll be hard. They'll have to be careful. But he was being dramatic." Hershel sat down at the counter and Maggie cut up some vegetables.

"You think dramatic is having a concussed woman in their group, who can barely focus? who just woke up?" Maggie retorted to her father, wanting to look out for Maia and thinking that her father was being unreasonable.

"They're a strong group. They've done well on their own and as for Maia, she'll be fine." Hershel tried to reason.

"They're just gonna have to go out and find their own farm. There's plenty of them now to choose from. " Hershel continued and Maggie stayed silent.

"There aren't." Maggie stated not looking up from the cutting board.

"Every one of them nearby is burned out or full of walkers." Hershel was shocked at how Maggie called them "walkers", he tilted his head.

"Walkers? Huh. So, we just keep these people here forever?" Hershel argued.

"How are they my responsibility?" Hershel raised his voice as Maggie stayed silent once again.

"'a new command I give to you. Love one another. As I have loved you...'" Maggie recited feeling herself getting a bit emotional.

"That's what you told me, right?" The silence was palpable as Hershel just looked at his eldest daughter.

"I was mad about Mom. Mad about you marrying Annette. I was 14 years old and I was awful, to you more than anybody." Maggie explained and Hershel just listened.

"All I wanted to do was smoke and shoplift. "Love one another." That's what you told me." Maggie stated and Hershel shook his head.

"Maggie...That was different." Hershel lowered his head.

"No." Maggie shook her head.

"You're different."

"I am. But we are not. I love you." Hershel tried to explain.

"That's part of this."

"Is this about you and that mop headed boy?" Hershel described Anthony as "mop headed" because of his hair.

Maggie shook her head as she felt tears brim her eyes.

"Do you want me to-." Hershel was cut off by Maggie.

"No..." Her voice wobbled and she looked up at Hershel with glassy eyes.

"His name is Anthony. He saved my life yesterday when one of the people you think is sick tried to kill me." She explained not daring to blink as the tears filled her eyes.

"How's that for dramatic?"

"Things aren't what you think they are. They aren't. Don't do this." Maggie spoke again, Hershel being too stunned to speak.

"Okay? It's not about me and Anthony. It's not about me and you. It's about you." Maggie started trying to hold back her tears.

"It's about who you are, who you're gonna be." Maggie ended before she was cut short by Jimmy yelling for Hershel.

"Hershel! It happened again." Jimmy jogged into the kitchen before the three all walked off outside.

—————

Maia seemed to be drifting off, almost feeling surreal. In a dream, perhaps.

The room was spinning and she didn't know what to do, it hadn't been very long since Maggie had left the room and Maia was staring at the ceiling with blank eyes.

It all just happened.

The room started spinning and she felt like if she moved everything would just...go away.

She tried closing her eyes yet absolutely nothing was working, her head was throbbing and her neck cramped at the angle she was sitting. After she sat up earlier to talk to Maggie she practically used all of her energy, or at least it felt that way.

She just stared and stared for what felt like hours, was this real?

With nothing but the sounds of her soft and slightly shallow breathing, it was silent. The sounds of footsteps passed two minutes ago but Maia couldn't be bothered to look who it was.

You could've sworn she was in some sort of catatonic state. Yet all she was doing was staring at the ceiling, waiting for the pain to go away. She didn't want help, she didn't want her siblings to be worried.

She hadn't touched her food that sat on the side table next to her, the sound of flies in her right ear was a soft buzzing.

She let out a soft sigh, attempting to turn her head ever so slightly to her right, looking over at the food, then to the cutlery and finally to the glass of water that Maggie bought for her.

She sighed again and then she looked down at her lap, her legs were covered by a small blanket. She felt exhausted, her eyes heaving and her head feeling like a heavy weight didn't make her feel any better.

It felt like the hospital room all over again...

Time felt like it was stopping, the room felt like it was spinning again therefore she laid herself back down gently, trying her hardest not to hurt herself in the process, feeling her head heavy on her shoulders and her arms trembling at the amount of energy she was using just to just lie back down.

Her head softly laid against the pillow and she closed her eyes, letting rest engulf her exhausted state allowing her to have a break from the pain and just...

Silence.

———————

Anthony had taken the liberty to stand on watch while Rick went out with Hershel and Jimmy for some odd reason yet he did not protest he carried on. His concerns about his sister got greater when he went to go check up on her not long before, she was fast asleep, but she hadn't eaten. Hadn't even touched a fork.

Despite his concerns about his twin sister, he was also worried for his little sister. He saw how upset she had been for most of the day and how she didn't even attempt to play with the other kids, she just sat under a tree with the book that their mother had written for them.

it said: 'this book is dedicated to my children, my twins, a son and a daughter and my daughter that will be here soon. This book was an appreciation towards them to show that mothers love their children and care for them. Anthony, Maia and soon — Luna, I love all three of you so much.'

He also saw as Giselle went into the farmhouse every 20 minutes to go and check up on Maia, it was no mystery to solve that the woman was going to check up on the Koa girl. The woman did care deeply for her.

He tried speaking to his little sister however she wouldn't budge, she would only answer with short and vague answers not wanting to let him in. This was what concerned him: the little girl had usually been so open with her feelings yet the second something happened to her family she would keep to herself.

He wondered why she suddenly isolated herself from everyone when this happened, it was out of character for her.

Nevertheless, he let the girl be as much as he cared he didn't want to be overbearing. Luna had then gone inside of the house, Anthony watched as she paced inside the Greene's house.

Anthony sighed softly as he watched his little sister walk inside, almost placing herself in a little bubble of isolation. The other kids all glanced at each other and had sad looks on their faces. Why was Luna acting like this?

Anthony saw Glenn who was helping his sister do schoolwork, attempting to explain some work to her. He bit his fingernails every so often but Anthony thought nothing of it.

Anthony sat on top of the RV, a baseball cap on his head, and he glanced over the large plot of land keeping a lookout as he was tasked before seeing Maggie who walked with a basket in her hand.

"Maggie!" He exclaimed out on a whim, he wasn't expecting to call out to her but he felt like it was necessary, he had been acting weird all morning and there was no doubt about it.

The short haired brunette ignored him and continued walking before Anthony had decided to get her to talk to him. She was still mad about the barn after all but she knew the walkers were dangerous.

"Maggie." He climbed down the ladder.

"Maggie, just stop for a second." He followed her, jogging to catch up to her.

"You talked about it. You told Dale, fine. I asked you. I told you. I just asked you for one thing. One thing." Maggie's voice rose in frustration and Anthony tried to get her to calm down.

"I couldn't do it." Anthony's voice was filled with despair and desperation.

"My dad's gonna kick you guys out now. He told me." Maggie was frustrated truth be told and Anthony stopped for a few seconds in worry before he cleared his throat to speak again.

"No, Rick's gonna work something out with your dad." Anthony spoke trying to convince Maggie, and maybe himself too.

"Okay? I had to tell them." Anthony sighed when Maggie was shown that she wasn't going to cooperate.

"You did not!" Maggie exclaimed before Anthony huffed.

"No, I did." Anthony grabbed her by her arm and turned her around to face him.

"Okay, I wanted to! I needed to." Anthony exclaimed and Maggie went silent.

"You see, I forgot. Okay? I forgot, or I stopped thinking about it or maybe I didn't want to think about it. I let them boss me around and use me for things because it benefits everyone! Yeah, sure, maybe I'd make a good leader but I don't want that, hell I can't even take care of my own little sister properly because now my twin sister is in a bed not being able to do anything! And then the pharmacy happened yesterday and I realized something. I forgot that it's dangerous. I don't care if they're sick people or dead people, they're dangerous. And then I realized something else. That I don't want you in danger, ever! So, I hate to blow your dads big secret, but I'm sick of secrets. Secrets get you killed!" Anthony ranted, Maggie staying silent the entire time, listening to every word he was saying.

"And I'd rather have you pissed off at me and alive, than liking me and dead. So, that's why I told them. Not because I'm scared and not because I can't keep a secret. That is why I told them." Anthony then huffed after his tangent before turning to walk away.

"Hey, retriever." Maggie's voice echoed behind him and he stopped in his tracks now annoyed more than anything but confused at the name.

"Retriever? Really?" Anthony was irritated to say the least but Maggie then nodded and walked slowly towards him.

"Okay, Anthony." She stood for a few seconds, was this all she needed?

She chuckled softly before gently placing her hands on his face and kissing him softly. He stood there stunned for a few seconds before he reciprocated and ran his hand up her back towards her face.

Finally.

———————

Maia had been fast asleep for the past few hours, she felt at peace like nothing could bother her ever again when all of a sudden she heard these loud noises.

They were echoing from what sounded like miles away, the distant yells started filling her ears, letting her eyes slowly blink open.

Her face filled with confusion as she sat up hastily, blinking for her eyes to adjust to the light. Her head still felt heavy, like a constant headache. She heard yells, screams, cries and....

Gunshots?

Gunshots.

She had opened her eyes fully and she couldn't see from the bed what was going on. Her heart rate started to pick up in worry.

What's happening?

All that was going through her mind, her chest tightened as she felt the rush of anxiety fill her body.

She had wide eyes as she heard the gunshots, popping one by one in the distance and the distant cries as well.

She was filled with nothing but pure confusion and anxiety, she felt useless. She couldn't do anything, she could barely even sit up without using too much energy.

She slowly kicked the blanket off of the legs before she attempted, and failed, to quickly swing her legs off the side of the bed which just ended up in a groan as she moved too quickly.

Her legs ached from not moving, her knees were covered in small bruises and she was trembling slightly.

She put her hand on the bedside table where the food was laid to her right and she used it as a handle to help her stand up, after two attempts she finally got up, her legs wobbling a bit and she put a foot forward and nearly lost balance.

She couldn't help but feel that same rush of useless and helplessness she felt just waking up. She had tried to balance herself and she leaned on the wall for support.

She slowly stalked towards the window, her hand pushing her closer to the window.

She had finally reached the window and pushed herself to get closer to see, her eyes blurred slightly because of her eyesight, her eyes narrow to attempt to focus her eyes as she saw the group huddled by the barn.

The barn.

Shit.

Her eyes widened and she saw vividly how the few kids were hugged by what looked like Giselle.

Maia just stood there, she was frozen, and she couldn't do anything.

The gunshots came to a stop and everyone stood still.

Now it was all a blur, literally.
