Physical Description
Maribel is a dark-skinned biracial girl who is mixed with African descent/English blood [courtesy of her father] and Puerto Rican [courtesy of her mother]. She has dark brown eyes, freckles and long, curly light brown hair where she is almost never seen without her glasses outside of the public.

In her casual attire, Maribel is always seen wearing her Midtown High School T-shirt with floral designs on her jeans and bright white sneakers with butterflies she drew and painted on the side of each shoe.

When working for her father and undergoing missions for the mafia, Maribel tends to forego her glasses and dyes her hair a darker shade of brown (almost black) to avoid detection, choosing to keep her hair long (or short, depending on how she feels). She is commonly seen wearing a black tuxedo suit, a sliver watch and black loafer shoes that she adores.

Relationship(s) with listed family member(s), if any:
Valerian Davis - Maribel (more or less) shares a complicated relationship with her father. She initially admired him as a successful businessman, wanting to be like him until the events of Doctor Strange occurred.

After failing to get medical attention for her mother and seeing her mother die from the injuries in front of her, she doesn't think things could get worse until she stumbles on her father killing a man and seeing a few of his friends referring to him as Sombra CarmesΓ [Crimson Shadow].

When she repeats the name back (mostly out of confusion) and her father sees her, the two are left alone as he explains the meaning of his name, saying how he killed the man who murdered her mother. NaΓ―ve at the time, she believed her father and wanted to help.

As such, Maribel is induced into the "family business" where she develops a mentorship with her uncle, Aaron Davis/The Prowler until he ends up leaving to work for Kingpin.

She remains loyal to her father's mafia, growing closer to her father until the aftermath of Ant-Man. Knowing there was a life for outside of simply being known as her father's "mafia daughter," Maribel finds herself disconnected from the mafia, politely asking to resign. When he challenges her to a fight, Maribel ends up beating him (thanks to a few moves she picked up from Scott Lang), securing her exit from the mafia.

When Maribel ends up meeting Bucky Barnes in Captain America: Civil War, where she starts viewing her father with sympathy after being armed with the knowledge of her father being brainwashed by HYDRA.

After comforting her father from his nightmare, Valerian tells Maribel the origin behind his name and his backstory to how he became a mafia leader, the two become close. As such, Valerian goes against asking his daughter to assist him, being respectful towards his daughter's decision.

Unfortunately, this short period ends of blissful peace and closeness between the two ends in Spider-Man: Homecoming. Despite respecting his daughter's decision to leave the mafia beforehand, Valerian ends up asking her to "get out of retirement," to which she refuses.

When Valerian threatens to bring Selena and Neron into the business with Quillon not being far away from being induced into the mafia. His threat serves as a shift in their relationship between them as (up to now), her father sworn to never bring harm to Maribel or her siblings.

Agreeing to help him in exchange for leaving her siblings out of his mafia, she finds herself being less close towards her father. In fact, she becomes distant, only talking to him when it felt necessary to the matter until Valerian apologizes for threatening to harm her siblings.

This semi-close bond between them is shattered when Valerian feels betrayed by his daughter's decision to land his client (Vulture) into prison, working alongside Spider-Man as Mariposa (since he can see past her secret identity and attempts to become a heroine).

As such, their relationship takes a dark turn once Valerian becomes physically abusive towards Maribel, marking the event as the first time he has ever hit her. After his anger subsides, she starts to blame herself for the incident occurring and vows to make it up to him.

Believing her once more, Valerian gives Maribel a second chance through assisting his newest client, who goes by the name "Mysterio." Because his client resides in London (where his daughter's class trip is going), her father agrees to let her go as a cover for Maribel to get the mission done.

However when Maribel ends up assisting Spider-Man and gets his client killed, Valerian once again lashed out at her for failing. In response, he becomes physically abusive and when he gaslights her into taking the blame, it becomes clear that their relationship has changed for the worst.

Celina de los Reyes - The two love each other dearly but demonstrated a lesser amount of affection toward each other [than opposed to Celina's relationship with her younger siblings, Selena, Neron and Quillon]. Despite this, Maribel still grieves the loss of her mother all of the same.

Naois Fitzgerald - Despite knowing him for a relatively decent amount of time, Maribel genuinely liked Naois as he was a history geek like her. Together, the two share a bond over discussing history, often going to museums together and analyzing the artifacts on display.

After Naois breaks up with her father over his secret lifestyle as a mafia leader, she is deeply disappointed by the news but the two still keep in touch. Given their close-knit bond and her love for history, Naois helps her secure a summer internship with the National Art Gallery.

Estella "Stella" Raine Lopez-Davis - Initially, Maribel did her best to maintain a friendly nature towards Stella, who seem to dislike her the most. But when it became clear she only married her father because Valerian was rich, Maribel starts returning the mutual dislike towards her. However, her dislike towards Stella intensifies when Estella doesn't bother to pull her weight as their stepmother, who doesn't care about caring for her nor her three siblings.

Their relationship only get worse when Maribel observes Estella being unfaithful to her father by having another man around the household. When she threatens to expose her stepmother for the lie, Estella scoffs. But after Maribel makes good on her promise and Estella is able to talk Valerian out of believing his daughter, she discovers Estella wasn't human but a skilled mutant who was capable of manipulating people's minds.

In the aftermath, their relationship evolves from a mutual dislike to a mutual hatred towards one another. As a result, Estella starts being emotionally and verbally abusive to Maribel which grows to become physical after Maribel unwittingly catches Stella in the midst of selling drugs in their basement.

Despite her efforts to get her father to break up with her stepmother, Stella has been around for too long that she has Valerian wrapped around her finger. Worse, Estella managed to get her younger siblings under her spell too, which forced Maribel to obey her stepmother.

Because of this, Estella and Maribel share no affection for each other nor do the two want anything to do with the other.

Selena Anna-Marie de los Reyes - Maribel and Selena share a typical sister-like bond with each other, shifting once Celina dies. With her father hiding behind his work to grieve, Maribel ends up acting like a mother to Selena and is the main one to encourage her to continue her passion for singing.

So when Selena decides to continue singing, Maribel is super supportive of her sister's decision, whether that means staying up late to rehearse with Selena, making time out of her schedule to ensure Selena makes it to her vocal classes and ballet recitals on time or simply showing up to her younger sister's performances, she maintains her status as Selena's number one fan.

Although the two are still close, Estella's influence over Selena threatens to destroy the bond Maribel shares with her younger sister.

Neron "Ron" Oz de los Reyes - Maribel and Neron share a typical sibling-like bond with each other, shifting once Celina dies. With her father hiding behind his work to grieve, Maribel ends up acting like a mother to Neron and is the main one to encourage him to pursue musical theatre.

So when Neron decides to continue performing, Maribel is super supportive of her brother's decision. Whether that means staying up late to rehearse with Neron, making time out of her schedule to ensure Neron makes it to his acting classes or his break-dance recitals on time or simply showing up to her younger brother's performances, she maintains her status as Neron's number one fan.

Although the two are still close, Estella's influence over Neron threatens to destroy the bond Maribel shares with her younger brother.

Quillon "Quill" de los Reyes - Maribel and Quillon share a typical sibling-like bond with each other, shifting once Celina dies.

With her father hiding behind his work to grieve, Maribel ends up acting like a mother to Quillon, which is how she ended up being the closest to him since Quill dots onto Maribel. Although the two are still close, Estella's influence over Qullion threatens to destroy the bond Maribel shares with her youngest brother.

Aaron Davis/The Prowler - Maribel didn't really know Aaron being his uncle until Valerian assigns him to mentor her. Not knowing what to do, Maribel initially shadows him and kept quiet, not wanting to disturb him.

However as the two got to know each other (in and out of the mafia business), she and Aaron develop a close bond. As a result when Aaron offers Miles to spray-paint around the underground metro station of New York City, he often invites Maribel, who tends to accept. Despite their apparent closeness, she is disappointed when he chooses to leave the mafia behind to work for the Kingpin, her father's rival. In spite of this, the two still keep in touch.

Jefferson Davis-Morales - Maribel isn't close to her uncle, given how she often rebels against authority figures like him. Despite this, the two genuinely cares for each other and over time, she starts to view Jefferson as her "moral compass," keeping her in line while her father embraces the darker and less ethical side of her.

Rio Davis-Morales - Because Maribel wasn't one to get affection from her mother, she struggles with Rio's affections and more so, she struggles with being a carefree niece in her company when Maribel is used to raising her younger siblings on her own. In spite of this, she and Rio have a close bond.

Miles Morales - With their shared love for rebelling against authority figures, Maribel and Miles have a stronger bond, given how the two are so similar to each other. Given this bond, she tends to be protective of her cousin, teasing him over his crush on Gwen Stacy, acting as a older sister to him.

Personality (as a civilian):
When under the influence of her father and his mafia business, Maribel can act rather cold, calculating and dismissive towards others and their feelings. More so, she tends to be emotionless when it comes to killing her victims or being bored when her victims don't die fast enough to her liking.

She only breaks out of this mold whenever Maribel is tasked with keeping an eye on the young children, while he goes to kill their parents. Around little kids, Maribel is more affectionate and gentler towards them (as she's generally good with kids) than half of the mafia on her father's crew.

When around her family, Maribel is quite protective of her younger siblings, serving as a mother to them as she places their needs before her own for everything, often making sure her siblings are okay, especially when their parents fight.

Away of the influence of her father, her stepmother and the mafia, Maribel is serious and reserved, often distancing herself from those who don't know her. Though polite, she's not one to make long-standing conversations with strangers.

When one does get to know her, she is bubbly, optimistic and the dorkiest person you'll ever meet. When excited, she'll ramble about her love of historical facts, artifacts along with Dungeons and Dragons.

Due to her overall commitment between being there for her younger siblings, balancing her role between apprentice and high school student, Maribel tends to become socially awkward when it comes to dealing with her crushes as she isn't one to admit when she's in love.

As a result, Maribel ends up reacting too late, often coming to terms with her feelings towards her crush just as they either move on from her or discuss loving someone else....

Fears, if any:
Atychiphobia - Fear of failure [copied from Google].
Coccinellidaephobia - Fear of ladybugs [copied from Google].
Wiccaphobia - Fear of witches and witchcraft [copied from Google].
Atelophobia - Fear of imperfection/disappointing others [copied from Google].

List of Acquired Skill(s):
Bilingual - Maribel is fluent in English and Spanish, though she's learning French and Italian as her father wants her to speak in multiple languages.

Weapons [particularly guns] - Trained to wield a gun from a young age, Maribel is known for taking out a crowd within seconds, developing her accuracy over the years, thanks to her father.

Hand-to-hand Combat - Trained by her father from a young age, Maribel is quite skilled in a fight, having built up her stamina and endurance over the years.

Stealth - Trained by her father from a young age, Maribel is skill at hiding and attacking her victims from the shadows without getting caught.

Thievery - Often task with stealing precious items from her father, Maribel is usually good at stealing until her latest heist lands her right into meeting her idol (and fellow co-worker), Scott Lang, who is also trying to steal the item she needs.

Likes [L] and Dislikes [D]:
Arrogant People [D] - Just like her alter-ego selves, Mariposa and Lady Monarch, Maribel dislikes arrogant people as they tend to remind her of her mafia father. As such, it's the main reason why she keeps her distance from Tony Stark/Iron Man and holds a grudge against Stephen Strange/Doctor Strange after he turned away her mother, who would later succumbed to her injuries.

Civilian's Status:
Part-time [as she's a civilian-turned-sidekick]

Alter-Ego's Standing:
Villainess - prior to the events of Ant-Man
Ant-Man's "Sidekick"/Apprentice - currently/excludes Homecoming & Far From Home
Villain's "Sidekick"- first half of Homecoming [Vulture] and Mysterio [Far From Home]
Heroine - towards the second half of Spider-Man: Homecoming and Far From Home

Alter-Ego's Name:
Mariposa - Heroine [primarily used in Ant-Man and onwards]
Lady Monarch - Villain [prior to Ant-Man; used in Homecoming and Far From Home]

Alter-Ego's Nicknames (for her/as Mariposa and Lady Monarch):
Flutters [as Mariposa] - Spider-Man
Moth, Moth-Girl [as Lady Monarch] - Spider-Man

Alter-Ego's Physical Description(s):
As Mariposa, Maribel chose to resemble the actual butterfly. As such, her costume primarily consists of a light orange jumper that can act as a dress when she activated her wings to open on 'formal,' creating a light orange gown with various spots and patterns.

Aside from the light orange jumper, she has dark brown ballet shoes, which Maribel finds helpful for flexibility. Additionally, she keeps her hair at medium-length, wearing light amber contacts to avoid being caught by those who might know her.

As Lady Monarch, Maribel's hair will turn to a light platinum white color, becoming longer upon transforming. She tends to wear light blue contacts and primarily keep a lavender color palette in terms of her costume. Wearing a lavender gown with black heels, she tends to enjoy fighting in fashionable dresses while wearing a sliver monarch anklet on her left leg.

Alter-Ego's Personality and/or Personalities:
As Mariposa, Maribel takes her bubbly and optimistic attitude and amplifies these two traits. She's seen as a relatively preppy kid who values change in the world just like the others. Furthermore, she's determined to see her goal succeed and though she tends to get on people's nerves at times, Mariposa isn't one to give up.

As Lady Monarch, Maribel brings back a lot of the traits she ends up using in the mafia, which is why she chose to portray Lady Monarch as someone who is blunt, sarcastic and somewhat sadistic. She views people like a game and doesn't get attach to those around her. Furthermore, she takes pleasure in harming people or demonstrating dominance to those who are weaker than her.

Power(s) and Abilities, if any:
Enhanced strength, speed and agility - these are traits she inherited from her father from a young age.

Flight - Created by using spare parts (and some of Stark's technology that she stole), Maribel developed robotic wings that would allow her to soar through the air without needing to rely on rocket boosters.

Butterfly command - Having a intuitive connection to butterflies, one of her abilities is being able to summon butterflies on command as Mariposa, though if she calls on too many, she's left feeling drained.

Poison Touch - Unlike Mariposa, she isn't connected to the butterflies. As a result when she kills a butterfly, Lady Monarch is granted her the ability to harness their poison and immunity for a brief amount of time.

Moth command - Similar to Mariposa, Lady Monarch can control moths, though if she calls on too many, she's left feeling drained.

Strength(s) and Weakness(es), if any:
Selflessness [S and W] - Given her kindhearted nature and status as the oldest of four, Maribel has been known for being too selfless in her younger years, which led to the kids taking advantage of her "friendship." As such, Maribel has learned to keep her selflessness at a bare minimum.

Selfishness [S and W] - A trait she will end up developing later on, Maribel will start becoming selfish in terms of achieving what she wants. As such, she'll start becoming manipulative like her father to obtain her goals, which will help her out at the cost of hurting those around her.

Slow temper [S] - A trait inherited by her father, Maribel is slow to anger. Her slowness to angrily react is useful whenever her father goes on a business trip, leaving her in charge of his mafia.

Despite her young age and small physique, Maribel is quick to make herself known to the mafia as a suitable replacement when she threatens to kill her oppressor after he relentlessly taunts her for being incapable of leading, much less managing a group of older men.

As such, no one protests when Maribel is left in charge. In fact, she is known for being the "mini version of her father," since Maribel tends to make aggressive but calculating-base decisions just like her father, Valerian.

Ambitious [S and W] - Maribel's ambitious nature is her Achilles' heel. She strives to outdo her competition at the cost of everyone else. While being ambitious has led to some great payoffs for the girl, she also had to endure the consequences that came with her decision to be ambitious....

Stubbornness [S and W] - Maribel's stubbornness nature is also her Achilles' heel. She strives to do the best at the cost of everyone else. While being stubborn has led to some great payoffs for the girl, she also had to endure the consequences that came with her decision to be stubborn....

Perfectionist [S and W] - While being perfect has led to some great payoffs for the girl, Maribel can become overzealous when people don't meet her high expectations with the mafia. So despite her great leadership skills and excellent use of tactics, some of the men despise the amount of pressure she puts on them since it's similar to her father's way of training them.

Intelligence [S] - Maribel possesses an higher than average intelligence, which is near Peter and Ned's level. This is shown in several occasions in terms of the way she views situations regarding the mafia, work and school. This is also shown through her grades in high school and college transcripts. As such, she is capable of being outsmarted by those possessing a higher amount of intelligence.

Naivety [W] - A trait that mainly plagued Maribel in her younger years, she often looked at the world through "rose-tint glasses," viewing the best (and only the best) outlook for herself. Now that she is older, this mentality has mostly been discarded as she's less optimistic about the world around her.

Photographic Memory [S] - A trait she inherited from her parents, Maribel has excellent photographic memory, which is primarily how she managed to get near the top of her class and why she's great at breaking secured passwords as she only needs to see the act being done.

Hacking [S] - On par with Ned's skill for the art but not as skilled as Scott Lang, Maribel is quite skilled at breaking through computer's encryptions and software features from minor civilians to top-tier billionaires with secrets of their own to hide. Because she and Ned are basically on the same level, Maribel tends to be competitive with him while she hopes to one day beat her mentor as a whole.

You know, you could still stay here, right? You would have safer here at the school dancing with Liz. You don't need to follow me. I have to help stop the Vulture because well, if I don't, who will? The spider's going to die on his own."

1. Similar to her namesake (Mirabel) from Disney's Encanto, Maribel's name serves as a double in terms of her name meaning "to look." In hindsight, she's the only one to see the true brokenness of her family and tries to shield her younger siblings from knowing the truth. More so, she's the only one to know her father's outward deception towards the public (as he's secretly a mafia leader).

2. Although she's not into Star Wars, she is a huge fan of Dungeons and Dragons, often dragging her friends into joining her campaign. In the event she couldn't get her friends to join, she would get a few of her father's friends and fellow members in his mafia to join her.

3. Despite having perfect vision eyesight like everyone else in her family, she is require to wear nonprescription glasses outside of her home and public places as her father doesn't want anyone tracing her back to him. As a result, people tend to depict her a "nerd," given the fact that she wears glasses as the trope follows her.

4. In spite of being the daughter to a mafia leader, she isn't one to boast about this fact for a few reasons. First, her father would kill her if word got out. Second, she doesn't want to be viewed differently and thirdly, she doesn't want people to fear her. It's also why she refuses to tell anyone [only those who are in the mafia know].

5. Because Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch's powers and abilities are so similar to her stepmother, Estella, Maribel has issues being around her.

Maribel's reaction towards Wanda is mainly because Estella often got into her head and exploited her painful memories. As such, Maribel tries to be nice to her, keeping Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch at an arm's length, but when Wanda gets inside her head and makes her envision her nightmares, her initial neutrality towards the woman quickly heighten towards a larger dislike towards her.

As a result, Maribel refuses to be anywhere near the witch. If she is ever around Wanda, then she tends to get nervous and tense up which is how she reacts to her stepmother, Estella.

6. Since her stepmother is a witch and Estella often makes her life terrible, her negative experiences towards her stepmother has influenced the way she views anyone who possesses witch-related abilities and powers. As such, it's possible Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch isn't the only one she finds herself fearing. Maribel is slowly trying to get over this fear though.
