You knew that it was going to be a weird day when a man wearing strange armour and otherworldly clothing fell into your backyard.

And ... when he appeared to be dead. There was blood around his mouth and gashes on his neck, and his skin had turned near blue.

"Fuck," you swore, running to him and shaking him. "Hello? Hello? Are you okay?"

To your relief, he groaned and sat up. To your non-relief, he reached for a knife strapped to him, that you were quick to bat away. "What realm is this?"

You raised an eyebrow at his strange speech. "New York, America?"

"Missed," he groaned, slapping a palm to his forehead. "Was meant ... Niflheim ... ugh."

And he passed out.

"Oh boy," you moaned, cracking your knuckles. "He's going to be kinda hard to drag inside."

The stranger awoke hours later, on your couch. He appeared disoriented, blue eyes flicking around in fear and uncertainty.

"You're in my house. I bandaged all your wounds," you explained. "Would you like some food?"

He stared at you. "Uh ... yes."

You shoved a pizza box towards him. "I'm Y/N, by the way. Y/N Y/L/N. Now, how'd you fall from the sky into my backyard?"

"Well," he grimaced. "It's a rather lengthy story. I am Loki Odinson, of Asgard ..."

- - -

"So you got throttled by a purple grape, pretended to be dead, and now you want to go back? Loki, are you out of your mind?"

"Not quite, Lady Y/N."

"Call me Y/N."

"Very well, Y/N. But this concerns the fate of the universe-"

"And you were throttled! Almost died! Don't even think about going back out there, you're going to be more a burden than a help," you stood and put your hands on your hips.

"I do not think-"

"Don't think, Loki. Get better." you stalked off.

Loki smiled. He loved your confidence and assertiveness already - not many women on Asgard had that around the prince.

"As you command, Y/N."

- - -

It took Loki a while to get into what you jokingly called 'human vibes'. To talk like a human when he wanted to, to prepare human food, to dress like a human, etc., etc.

At first, your relationship was purely platonic friendship. But after a few years, you started sharing kisses and becoming closer. And everything could have been considered normal, until one day, around 5 years after Loki had fallen in your backyard ....

Ding dong!

"I got it," you said, rushing for the door. Loki playfully tackled you and answers it. All the colour rushes from his face.

"Thor?"

A very unfit man with thick locks of hair and a messy beard was at the door.

"So you really are alive," the man, Thor said emotionally. "We thought you were dead, I missed you."

"Brother ..." Loki sounded as though he was going to cry. The two men embraced.

"Y/N, this is Thor," Loki introduced you properly. "Thor, this is Y/N, the mortal who looked after me after the ... incident with Thanos."

"He snapped, Loki," Thor looked traumatised. "Thanos's snap succeeded."

"We know," you and Loki said at the same time.

"A lot of people are just ... gone," you said. "It wasn't hard to notice."

"Loki, I need you to help. We, the Avengers, need your help to defeat Thanos."

Loki looked back at you, and you nodded, though somewhat sadly. He turned and hugged you tightly, and a couple of tears leaked down your cheeks.

You really did tend to care about people when they crashed in your backyard. You reached up to stroke his cheek.

"Be safe, okay?"

He responded by leaning down and kissing you. The kiss was a promise.

"I love you."

"You too."

"Who is she?" you heard Thor ask as the brothers walked away.

Knowing Loki's occasionally brash and arrogant Asgardian nature, you expected him to say "Just a mortal."

Instead he said, "The most beautiful maiden of Midgard, Thor, and the love of my life."

Now, you watched them go with a bit of a smile. I know Loki will return to me.

- - -

After day after day of waiting in anxiety, to say you were worried about Loki was a complete and utter understatement. You would see something you instantly linked to a memory of him, and you would worry, helplessly.

Most nights, you fell asleep curled up with a shirt that smelt like him, crying yourself to sleep. With every passing day with more people being proclaimed missing, you lost all hope that Loki and the Avengers had succeeded.

Until the day when people came back.

Until suddenly the world was busy again.

You cried again that day, but happily. And you happily waited for Loki to return to you.

- - -

Ding dong. You opened the door tiredly.

"It's 3 in the fucking morning- Thor!" you actually looked at the person who had rung the door. You launched forward and hugged him tightly. He hugged you back, chuckling.

"Greetings, Lady Y/N."

Suddenly, you stepped back.

"Where's Loki? Is he okay? Is he alive? Did he get that grape?"

To answer, Thor just stepped aside. You looked down the path, and burst into heavy tears.

It was Loki, bruised, battered, but alive. You launched down the path and wrapped your arms around his chest, feeling the relieving warmth as he does the same.

"I thought you had d-died," you sobbed. "I thought you had left and I would never get you b-back."

"I promised to come back," he whispered, and you could hear in his voice that he was crying, too. You held his face in your hands and kissed him desperately.

The kiss was a promise of love and forever. He tasted like mint and fresh berries, and you melted like an ice cream in his arms.

"Never leave me ever again."

"I promise, Y/N."

"So ... " Thor asked, casually. "Are you getting married?"

"THOR!"
