꧁★ act one — chapter two ★꧂

Madelyn fell to the ground as she tripped over a stone, they had all took of running after what happened with Jasper. Cameron stopped and turned around, he helped Madelyn to her feet and took her hand as they caught up with the others.

"Monty." Clarke spoke as he too fell over, they all caught up and paused.

"Come on! We got to go!" Finn yelled. Madelyn's eyes widened, in front of Monty was the skeleton of something or somebody.

"Who are they?" Finn asked as he and Octavia helped Monty to his feet, Madelyn held her side, her leg was hurting from the bite, the worst was the side of her stomach but it also got a hold of her leg, so the amount of running definitely wasn't helping.

"What are they?" Clarke asked as she picked up a weird looking skull, it wasn't shaped as a normal human skull would look like.

"We are so screwed." Octavia spoke, Madelyn flinched at they heard a loud scream somewhere farther away from where they were.

"Jasper. He's alive." Clarke spoke as she started running back. Finn trying to stop her. They all began running after her.

"Wait. Stay out of the trees." Finn said as he took a hold of Clarke. They all stopped at the edge of the trees, the spot where Jasper has been was now empty. "He was right there."

"No. Where is he?" Monty asked, everyone was looking around for any sight of him.

"They took him."

"Wells!" Clarke yelled as they arrived back at camp, Wells was standing with a knife to a guy Madelyn recognized at John Murphy she had heard what he did, she wished she could've done the same, she didn't ask for her father to be who he was and now she was being punished because their chancellor was too weak to take the risk and let Madelyn just be a normal girl. But no, in his eyes Madelyn was a 'what if'; what if she turned out like her father?

"Let him go!" Clarke said as she hurried down the hill, Wells took his arm away from Murphy's neck and showed him to the ground, he quickly got up and charged toward Wells but was stopped by Bellamy, Octavia's sister.

"Enough. Murphy." He spoke as he had a tight grip on Murphy's arms, he quickly noticed Octavia limping and ran to her. "Octavia. Are you all right?" He asked as he helped her.

"Where's the food?" Bellamy asked. "We didn't make it to Mount Weather." Madelyn spoke up as she came down the hill, Cameron following behind, Bellamy looked her way as she spoke, Madelyn almost reached the bottom when her side suddenly hurt and she winched.

"You okay?" Bellamy asked her as he helped her sit down beside Finn, Madelyn nodded.

"What, the hell happened out there?" Bellamy asked as he returned to his sisters side and turned to Clarke waiting for an answer. "We were attacked." Clarke said, which caused everyone to be confused.

"Attacked? By what?" Wells asked. "Not what. Who." Finn spoke. "It turns out, when the last man from the ground died on the ark, he wasn't the last grounder." He continued, Cameron sat down on the ground beside Madelyn, he hadn't really left her side, Madelyn was thankful for that as she had, had some moments where she could use some help.

"Is true. Everything we thought we knew about the ground is wrong. There are people here. Survivors. The good news is, that means we can survive. Radiation won't kill us." Clarke spoke, she looked around and everybody who was slowly coming closer to hear what they were saying, Madelyn was nodding along, she slowly slipped down to the ground beside Cameron, getting tired, she hadn't slept much the days before they were sent down here, nightmares of what she could become haunting her in her sleep.

"Yeah, the bad news is the grounders will." Finn spoke, Madelyn laid her head on Cameron's shoulder and slowly shut her eyes and opening them again.

"Are you okay?" Cameron asked as he turned his head to her, the two tuned out the conversation going on, Madelyn mostly due to her almost falling asleep.

"Yeah. Just tired." She said in a whisper, she closed her eyes and almost fell asleep, she would have if it wasn't for the yelling going on.

"If you take off your wristbands, you're not just killing them. You're killing us!" Clarke yelled as Madelyn opened her eyes and took her head off Cameron's shoulder.

"We're stronger than you think. Don't listen to her. She's one of the privileged. If they come down, she'll have it good. How many of you can say the same? We can take care of ourselves. That wristband on your arm? It makes you a prisoner. We are not prisoners anymore!" Bellamy yelled, Madelyn looked down at her wristband, as much as she wanted to agree with Clarke, Madelyn simply couldn't help but taking Bellamy's side, they were scared of something that might not ever happen and locked her up, she was a prisoner. If they came down they'd lock her right back up.

"They say they'll forgive your crimes. I say you're not criminals! You're fighters, survivors!" Bellamy continued, Madelyn smiled, what he was saying made her think that maybe down here, with just the 100 and no one else from the ark was exactly where she belonged, where someone would look at her as more than just the daugther of a serial killer.

"The grounders should worry about us!" Bellamy yelled and a bunch of 'yeah's' and cheers were heard from all the people agreeing with him. Clarke shook her head and walked away.

Clarke had taken Bellamy, Murphy and Wells back out to find Jasper, she made Monty, Octavia and Madelyn stay, Madelyn had tried to protest but Clarke wouldn't budge, when she had tried to get up and go with them Bellamy had raised a brow at her.

Madelyn had given him an offended look and sat back down with a roll of her eyes.

"Hey, I saw that. You cheated." Octavia spoke as she threw something at the guy, Madelyn let out a chuckle as she sat beside her.

"Hey, guys, the wall's not gonna build itself." Atom spoke as he stopped beside the group. "Walls won't stop what's out there. We need weapons." Octavia spoke, Madelyn nodded and pointed at Octavia as Atom walked closer.

"So build weapons. Look... your brother wasn't kidding about that. He'll hurt them." Atom spoke, Madelyn made a face with a tight awkward smile and got up and walked away, not needing to be part of that conversation.

Madelyn quickly spotted Cameron sitting with a group of other guys, obviously a bit older than him, Madelyn made her way over to them, she slowed down when she was behind Cameron, one of the other guys looked at her with a raised brow, but Madelyn put her finger to her lips to make him be quiet, the guy smiled and nodded.

Madelyn then took another step forward and extended her arms too, her arms making contact with his back. "Boo!" She yelled and Cameron almost jumped to his feet as he turned around to look at her "Geez, Madelyn you scared the shit out of me!" He yelled back, the group of guys around him and Madelyn all laughed.

"Sorry?" Madelyn spoke in more of a questioning tone to mess with him as she stood up towering over him, he looked up at her, he then grinned, Madelyn furrowed her brows at him after noticing his expression 'run' he mouthed, it took her a second to realize what he was gonna do.

"Fuck." She mumbled as she started running and hid behind one of the guys as Cameron got to his feet, the guys all laughed as they ran in circles around the group, when Cameron came to a stop and began running the other way, Madelyn widened her eyes and ran away from the group and into the trees.

Her laughter was the only thing that could be heard in the woods at that moment, Cameron smiled as he ran after her, he loved her laugh, he wanted to hear it every day.

Cameron stopped running when he lost sight of her, he could still hear her laugh until he couldn't, Cameron furrowed his brows, his heart beat began picking up, thinking the worst he slowly looked around and walked toward where he had seen her last.

A smile quickly made its way onto his face at what he found.

He saw Madelyn standing in a little clearing, the sun was shining down on her, there were these beautiful blue butterflies all around her, they were glowing, Cameron walked up to her and walked through the butterflies and stood behind her, Madelyn turned around with a bright smile as she laughed lightly, Cameron smiled down at her, Cameron then threw her over his shoulder, a shriek sounding from her.

"Hey!" She yelled as she hit his back, soon after followed by a giggle. "Got you!" Cameron spoke as he started running, soon enough they were back at camp, Cameron was spinning in circles laughing, with Madelyn having a laughing fit on his shoulder, they could hear people laughing with them, it was a beautiful scene, everyones worries vanished for a moment, as they watched the two kids having the time of their life, just being kids.

Cameron stopped spinning when he got dizzy, he put her down and she hit his shoulder with a laugh.

Later that day when it was dark outside, Madelyn and Cameron where chatting when they heard someone saying that the others were back, Madelyn and Cameron made their way over and saw Jasper being carried into camp.

Bellamy and Murphy were carrying something, they put it down on the ground and opened up the blanket, revealing an animal.

"Who's hungry?!" Bellamy yelled and everyone cheered. "Yeah!" Multiple people including Madelyn yelled.

They were making people take off their wristbands for food, Madelyn didn't want to so she walked up to where the sticks were and took two, Bellamy quickly grabbed her wrist.

"What, you think you can play by different rules?" He asked as Murphy walked over and others stood watching them.

"Whatever the hell we want." Madelyn spoke, spitting his words right back at him, Wells had told her what he said. Bellamy widened his eyes, everyone looked away when Murphy yelled who was next, Bellamy looked around then let go of her wrist and nodded at her.

"Get some sleep." And with that he walked away.

AUTHOR'S NOTE!

A bit of a short chapter, I know! But this was as much writing I got done for the second episode!

It would probably have been longer if she had been with the others to find Jasper, but Clarke wouldn't let Octavia go so why would she ever let a younger child who's also injured go? That wouldn't make sense.

I really enjoyed writing the butterfly scene with Cameron and Madelyn, I just felt like they deserved some pure happiness before eveything goes to shit. It was so nice to write, I mean they're just kids, much younger than most of the others. This is kind of a reminder that they're about Charlottes age so not that much teenagers like the other but literal kids, they're not around 16-17+ until like well before act five when act five starts they're a bit older, I mean 6 years has passed, I suck at time lines so I can't say a specific age, but around act five+ they're pretty much adult, until then they're kids growing into their teenage years, just letting y'all know!

I don't mind if any of you make comments saying you think Cameron and Madelyn are cute together, I really don't. Just keep in mind that they're kids and don't say nasty stuff.
