"ℍ𝔼𝕃ℙ me understand why you claim you witnessed a murder. Was it to gain attention?" Dr. Kinbott asked, her tone both inquisitive and gentle as she sat across from Wednesday in her office. Wednesday stared at her blankly for a moment before speaking in a somewhat harsh tone, "Why should I bother telling you anything? You've already decided I'm lying. I know what I saw. Lilith does also."

Dr. Kinbott looked at him, maintaining her gentle demeanor. "Your life's had a lot of upheaval recently. It's okay to be confused about things."

"Don't try and lure me into one of your psychological traps," Wednesday replied, leaning his head on his hand as his arm rested on the chair's arm.

"No one is trying to trap you," Dr. Kinbott said, shaking her head gently. "I'm here to help you process your emotions."

"Emotions are a gateway trait. They lead to feelings, which trigger tears. I don't do tears," Wednesday responded flatly.

Dr. Kinbott looked away briefly, then faced Wednesday with a small smile. "Tell me how you're adjusting to school."

"Sartre said, 'Hell is other people.' He was my first adoration."

"Wednesday, part of the reason your parents sent you to Nevermore is so you could find your people. Become part of a larger community," Dr. Kinbott explained, trying to reach out to him.

"I like being an island. A well-fortified one surrounded by sharks," Wednesday replied, his tone unwavering.

Dr. Kinbott gave a small smile. "Well, it may seem Miss Winters found her way on the island, and I do presume that the two of you have gotten close."

Wednesday looked away, dismissing her suggestion. "Miss Winters is just a pawn on the chessboard. She is an acquaintance, nothing more."

Dr. Kinbott looked at him, clearly not believing him. "Have you considered your antisocial tendencies might be motivated by fear of rejection?"

As Wednesday caught sight of some small paintings, which seemed to belong to Lilith, he noticed the canvases facing the other direction, dust-covered and old, yet captivating his attention. "If you were to reject me, I would not be upset," he stated.

"Maybe, but what if Miss Winters rejected you? What would you think?" Dr. Kinbott asked, her gaze intent on him.

Wednesday glared at her before finally speaking, "I wouldn't be upset."

Dr. Kinbott hummed, then glanced at the clock to check the time. "And look, you made it through an entire session without trying to escape," she smiled.

Wednesday clenched his jaw, then asked, "Those paintings, they're Lilith's, aren't they?" Dr. Kinbott turned to look at the canvases before nodding. "And her file?" Wednesday continued.

"Wednesday, we are not here to discuss another patient of mine," Dr. Kinbott replied firmly.

Wednesday's eyes lingered on the file for a moment, his curiosity piqued. What was in there? What kind of person was Lilith? All Wednesday knew was that he was captivated.

As Wednesday left the building, Tyler's voice caught his attention. "Guess you decided to stick around Jericho. Wait, you see Dr. Kinbott too?" Wednesday looked at him before replying, "You should know I'm legally required to be here." He started walking, but Tyler decided to follow. "Uh, me too. Court ordered," Tyler said, trying to make conversation.

"Look at us. A couple of teenage tearaways," Wednesday responded with a sarcastic tone as they walked across the street.

Tyler chuckled at the comment before stopping Wednesday in his tracks, making him face Tyler. "Hey, when you and Lilith ran off last night at the Harvest Festival, I wasn't sure what happened, and then I heard... kinda crazy."

"Everyone, including your father, believes we made it all up. He believes Lilith did something," Wednesday replied, irritation clear in his voice.

Tyler's phone pinged with a notification, which he glanced at before turning it off. "You know, I..." He faced Wednesday, "Time to get in touch with my inner rebel. You know, for the record, I believe you both." He smiled at Wednesday and then left.

In front of Nevermore Academy, Lilith was helping Enid and the rest of their group paint the canoe for an upcoming event. Enid paced back and forth anxiously before ordering everyone, "Ladies, come on! Let's work on those teeth. More scowl. This kitty is taking no prisoners. If Bianca Barclay wins again this year, I will literally scratch my own eyes out!"

Lilith chuckled, putting down her paintbrush, and spoke to her, "Enid. Breathe."

Enid took a deep breath in and out, trying to calm down before she spoke while Lilith went back to painting, "Sorry, bestie. It's just I can't take another loss, especially if it's Bianca."

Lilith shook her head amusingly before Enid's eyes glinted with an idea. Before she could speak, Lilith interrupted, "No."

Enid looked at her, confused, "You don't even know what I was going to say."

Lilith looked at Enid, "Yeah, you want me to use my witch powers to help you win, which I do recall you told me no the last time I suggested it."

Lilith smiled as Enid pouted and looked away, making Lilith chuckle. A voice then caught Lilith's attention, making her turn around, "I'd pay money to see that."

Lilith smiled and looked up at the speaker, "Hey there, dark sleeping beauty. What do I owe the pleasure?"

Wednesday looked down at her before he spoke, "It's about Rowan. Have you seen him?"

Lilith stood up, placed the paintbrush down, and replied, "You mean Frankenstein? Yes, I have. It's weird and confusing considering we saw him get killed. Also, it cannot be a witch's doing, nor do I know Rowan's powers aren't coming back to life. So, it must be something else."

Wednesday hummed before he looked at Lilith and then away, his voice softer than usual. "How... are you alright?"

Lilith looked at him with a teasing glint in her eyes. "Uh oh, does Wednesday have a heart?" She pouted playfully, batting her eyelashes. Wednesday shot her a glare, but she chuckled and continued, "I'm alright. I wasn't the one to pass out. Besides, I've seen worse."

Wednesday's gaze softened slightly. "The look on your face said otherwise."

Lilith smiled warmly, her teasing tone gentler now. "I wasn't scared for myself. I was afraid for you, even though I know you can take care of yourself, but still."

For a moment, there was a comfortable silence between them, the chaos of the festival preparations fading into the background. Enid, watching the exchange, couldn't help but smile at the sight of her two friends sharing such a rare, tender moment. The playful teasing and genuine concern in Lilith's voice seemed to melt away a bit of Wednesday's usual stoic exterior, revealing a glimpse of the vulnerable bond they were beginning to form.
