The screeching voice of your annoying neighbour Mrs Choi says, "If this ugly cat appears again, I'm calling the pound.". Looking over at your alarm clock, you groan inwardly. You don't want to leave your warm bed.

5 am!!

Either she has too much soju in her system, or she smokes cannabis. You never know what kind of person screams at 5 am on a Monday. A soft mewl fills your ears. When you wake up and see Wain sitting expectantly on the window sill, you gently stroke his wine-coloured head.

You chuckle at your newly adopted cat. "Don't tell me you annoyed Mrs Choi again," he glares at you with wide eyes and turns to your bed. A smile spreads across your face.

"Come here you," I pick him up and give him a gentle cuddle. He is placed on the bed as you sigh.

"I have to go to work, and you should probably sleep,"

...

While taking a cup of coffee and grabbing a doughnut that you had stashed away from last night, you check your work emails and notifications.

Three new messages.

A second message makes you groan with frustration. Ms Hwan is one of the most irritating people on this planet. You understand that she would need to stay on top of things as a manager but she has been a challenge and unnecessarily disrespectful since you joined Min Entertainment.

In response to Dae-Seong's text, you put on your work uniform, wearing dark blue overalls and old white sneakers. Putting on a jacket seems like a wise decision since today is quite chilly—your reply to his message that you will arrive soon. You quickly look for your prescription glasses. You feel safe behind it. It hides your deep sadness and pain.

When you order an Uber, you walk out of your mother's apartment, which was your late halmeoni ( grandma's )and lock the door after ensuring that Wain is fed.

The unexpected yell comes from Mrs Choi: "You need to keep that cat on a leash!" As your jaw tightens, you look at her. You hide the irritation in your voice and make your way to the staircase, saying, "Yes, it won't happen again."

As soon as you leave your apartment, you are greeted with a delicious scent. This scent emanates from downstairs, and your senses are captivated. As soon as you get downstairs, a familiar face catches your attention, making you fondly smile.

As you ask your mother, "Eomma, why are you up so early?" you are intrigued to know why she opened the Wonton shop so early. Her pastries are to die for, and she had flour on her apron and other food elements on her clothing. Your mom had to take over the shop after your granma's death a year ago, and it's been tough on both of you.

"The bills aren't going to pay themselves," she challenges and raises her eyebrow at you. You respond by raising both hands in surrender. She took off her dirty apron and hung it on the hook.  A small cooler box is handed to you.

"Here's your lunch. I hope you enjoy the new dishes. So, hurry up before you get late for work, and I didn't teach you to be late," she says as she shoves you out. As you leave the shop, you softly giggle, "Okay, okay, eomma.". You kiss her on the cheek and wave at your mother a quick goodbye once you get in the Uber you just ordered.

...

A Min Entertainment company. One of South Korea's biggest and most successful companies. The main office of Min Entertainment in Seoul would have been your ultimate dream job. But not everything goes according to plan. You didn't want to work in Busan, even though it's a great place to work with the beaches at your doorstep. Life has not treated you fairly, but when was life fair. As an American-Korean, you always feel a little of an outsider. But you are fluent in both English and Korean.  Upon your father's death, it was as if all your dreams died with him. Now that he is no longer with you, you feel so lost. His absence left you feeling a sense of loss. Then there was... you shake your head. That's in the past.

You are pale white like your American musician dad, who died in an accident when you were 18 years. Still, luckily fate was so kind to let you have your moms' Asian eyes. Still, your eyes are brown like melted chocolate and very short, very skinny posture of 1.5m. and you've been blessed with the most beautiful, thickest and glossiest mahogany coloured hair, which earned you a lot of envious looks from all the black-haired Korean girls at your Uni and now at your job.

As a consequence of all the favours you received-some good, some bad-your beauty became a snare to you. It has been your experience several times at your workplace that you were subjected to sexual harassment, leading to this situation. That is why you are now in the most humiliating position at the company. However, you do not care. When money is deposited in the bank, it's all the same.

Exiting the Uber and walking towards the entrance, you breathe in a deep breath. Dae-Seong is waiting to welcome anyone who enters with a significant smile.

You first met him when you got hired to work at Min Entertainment. He is one of the best doormen you've ever met, and he is always your night in shining armour. His feelings for you are not purely friendship, and for months now, he was hinting at a possible relationship with him.

"Ahh, young Yeonra. Ready to take on the world..." you roll your eyes playfully as he wipes a fake tear from his eye.

"Hey Dae-Seong, I got your messages. Is Mrs. Hwan on a power trip again?" You grimace. He shakes his head. He is very tall and has a friendly demeanor and a caring attitude. You like him, but you don't want any relationships if you are still lost.

"Worse, we're getting a new staff member, and she's upset that you didn't tell her about it, "He raises his eyebrows, making scary faces at you.

"I didn't know we have a new hire until you just told me. She's the supervisor, and she expects me to do her job now-" you stop yourself from continuing to ramble, or you might end up losing your job. You can't afford it...you have student loans to pay.

"Wish me luck," You sigh, a bit reluctant to go inside and face Ms. Hwan. Dae-Seong gives you a look of confidence and encouragement.

"You're the best at your job. You don't need luck, Yeon- ra.," He gives you an unexpected bear hug. Immediately straightening his posture afterward, Dae-Seong opens the glass door for you.

"Go get them, tigress," you shake your head with laughter and enter the building.

...

Once entering the large building, your eyes land on Ms. Hwan, who seems overly stressed. Her facial expression is unreadable.

Her attention is dragged to you, and a sneer clouds her face. She is gorgeous but a hell's cat to work, and she. She is overly rude to the janitorial staff.

"You, get over here now!" She yells, catching the attention of the other Min Entertainment. Workers, and who snicker in their fists. Hastily you make your way over to her, mentally preparing yourself for an unneeded lecture. She never greets anyone below her. And you are like a vermin in her eyes. One look at you, and she hated you instantly. Why are women so insecure when a better version is in front of them?

"How could you not remind me that we have a new staff member!? Especially one that would be in the janitorial department!" You don't say anything. She continues her unfair accusations.

"You're the team leader of the janitorial department!" You don't dare to speak, allowing her to vent. "Are you incompetent?!" Her scream echoes throughout the building. You are about to reply, but she doesn't wait for your answer. Her face was flustered. You almost feel sorry for her, not.

"Everyone gather around. I have an announcement! You as well, Dae-Seong, so stop trying to eavesdrop when you're needed here as well!" Ms. Hwan growls in anger, and she must be stressed out today. Dae-Seong walks over to you and sends you a bashful smile.

"To be fair, I was only eavesdropping if you needed saving," he whispers to you.

"My guardian Angel," you say amusingly.

"If you're done with your tea party there at the back, I would like to give important news that needs to be said," Ms Hwan grits her teeth as she sends you and your best friend a death stare. Dae-Seong sends her a thumbs-up, causing her to roll her eyes. However, you don't miss the slight twitch of her left eye. He must stop annoying this witch.

"A camera crew will be here documenting the way we as the staff of Min Entertainment. Work together as colleagues and with clients. I expect everyone to be on their best behavior. It is called "On the Job."

"Now head to your stations! Mr Min doesn't pay you to stand around!" Ms. Hwan stresses. Everyone begins to disperse, leaving you and Dae-Seong with slightly confused facial expressions.

"Ms. Hwan, shouldn't you mention to everyone about the new staff member?" Dae-Seong voices my thoughts. Which do you agree with? Everyone should know about the new staff member that you all will be working with.

"I don't need a doorman to tell me how I should make my announcements. If I needed a helping hand, you are the last person I would ask," Ms. Hwan says with a stern tone. You purse your lips at her insult toward Dae-Seong, who doesn't seem affected by it. However, his eyes tell you a different story. He despised this woman.

Ms. Hwan knows how to get under one's skin.

After that, she walks away without saying another word. Almost instantly, you're pulled in for a hug."Dae-Seong, you're squishing me," He breaks the hug giving you a sheepish grin.

"What have you so happy this morning?" You ask curiously.

"We get to have a new friend! Plus, throw him a welcome to Min Entertainment party after work!" He exclaims, his eyes lighting with excitement.

"We'll talk about this during our lunch hour since I have only a few an hour left to clock in," you wave to Dae-Seong as he heads to his post, and you make your way to the locker rooms.

"Quiet, here she comes," you hear hushed voices as you enter the staff locker rooms. Your eyes land on three figures who give you a look of disgust as you pass them. Ignoring them is what you do best, although it's painful to see them ridicule you constantly.

There is no point in reacting since it adds fuel to the fire. They continue whispering without shame as they steal glances at you. You sigh at this. This has been going on with the majority of the staff. You're not sure what you did, but ever since you began working as part of the janitorial department, you've been on the daily verbal tabloids'

They have nothing better to do...

It could be because the ones that only bother you have higher positions than the janitorial staff. Being part of the lower positioned workers, you receive backlash from it. You don't pay it any mind. There are times when you want to quit. Still, you always wanted to work for an entertainment company, and this was the only job that paid better than working as an entertainment delivery girl or a cashier at the local convenience store or babysitting your neighbors' naughty kids. You can get insider information about the company here, at least.

"...I'm surprised she still works here after the incident.." their gossiping continues.

You might be wondering what incident, right? Well, last week, someone vomited in the elevator, and because none of the janitors was on-site, you had to clean it up. What's worse, the elevator stopped working—trapping you inside with a horrendous smell of vomit in an airtight space.

It gets even better. When maintenance got you out of the elevator, imagine the smell you had attached to your clothing. And when you went to look for a change of clothes in one of the staff uniform rooms, there wasn't any, which was odd, since there are always spare uniforms.

Thank goodness Dae-Seong managed to assist you. He used some of his cologne to help hide the smell, which didn't help much, but it was a kind gesture.

Drifting away from your thoughts, you place your jacket in your locker, making sure to shut it tightly with a new lock you recently bought. You can't have people breaking into your locker again. Giggling enters your ears, which you choose to disregard, and exit the locker room.

Thud...

Your body collides with another one. You look up, and your eyes catch a pair of dark silky ones. It's a young man. He is so hot. A lot taller than you. You could probably reach his shoulders. His tanned skin glimmers softly in the light. Blonde hair adorning his head. He has a cute beard, but it doesn't take away any of his rugged bad-boy looks. Two sleeper earrings adorn His ears, and you notice some cute tattoos on his wrist. You don't have any preferences on tats. You don't like or dislike them. When he saw you checking him out, a slight smirk played on his otherwise stoic appearance.

"My bad, I didn't see where I was going," you apologize to the stranger. His uniform sends recognition to your brain—the new guy.

"You're new to the janitorial staff, right?" You ask him. He gives you a tight smile and nods cooly.

"Yes, a woman named Ms. Hwan said I need to find someone by the name of Yeonra...." He furrows his eyebrows. You give him a friendly grin. His voice has a calm and rich tone, and you wonder if he sings.

"That's me. I'm the team leader of all the janitors here, follow me, and I'll give you a tour of one of Min Entertainment.s prized buildings," you chuckle softly as you air quote the word "team leader". He hums at your statement. However, his eyes wander around, almost observing.

"What's your name? By the way, I wouldn't want to be rude and call you something you don't want..." you trail off.

"Suga...just Suga," He deadpans, shocking you slightly with his snappy attitude. You purse your lips but end up giving him an understanding grin. He must feel overwhelmed by the company or from being new and not a friendly guy. But, whatever.

"Well then, Suga, let's go," you gesture for him to follow.

"Sure..." His tone is dry and almost as though he doesn't want to be here. You could tell, being a janitor must be something he didn't plan on having for his life choices.

You can relate...

"We'll just head to the lunchroom so that I can make sure that all the janitors receive their cleaning lists for today, and then we can get started," You make your way to the stairs, but Suga's voice stops you.

"Why don't we take the elevator," he asks curiously.

"The head of departments doesn't want us using the elevators in case any clients come unless we need to clean it, but there is a special pass you need first when cleaning specific areas...it gives anyone who isn't in the janitorial service a notice that you have been permitted to clean those areas," You give a sad smile.

"That's inconvenient.." He raises an eyebrow to give you a questioning look, and this makes you sigh.

"It is what it is. At least we get to stay in shape," Informing Suga, you give him a shrug.

"Have you ever thought of informing head office?" You chuckle at the thoughtful stare Suga gives you. The poor guy is truly in for a treat, and he better gets himself a pair of good FILA sneakers.

"As if they would even give us the time of day, our words go on deaf ears... our pleas are not that important" Your voice trails off. What Ms. Hwan said earlier entered your mind.

"We will have a camera crew over as well, and they will be watching how we work...probably watching the 'important people in the company. So you don't have to worry or feel overwhelmed. We will most likely get ignored, as usual. We are like the maids and be swift and unnoticeable." Suga tilts his head in mild confusion.

"You don't think they would be interested in what you do in the company-" he furrowed his brows. Whoa.

"-Ahh, new guy!" A voice cuts Suga off. You both turn your attention to one of the janitors that work with you. Its Po-Seok.

He is one of the elderly workers here. A kind man but gets irritable fast. His eyes widen as he notices Suga standing behind you.

"Good morning, sir," Suga says respectfully. His tone of voice is calm. Po-Seok gives Suga a narrow-eyed look. "I'm not that old...' sir' is for old people, it Po-Seok,"

"Good morning, Po-Seok," You greet the man with a smile. He grins, and Suga only nods.

"Shouldn't you be working on the third floor?" As soon as you say that, his grin disappears, and his face turns into distaste.

" Yeonra., you know me and my back has problems. I can't climb up all those stairs...I am almost 58 years old." He looked disgruntled.

You raise an eyebrow at this. "You do know that you are allowed to use the elevator as long as you wear the tag?" You give Po-Seok an amused smile, and his eyes widen.

"Oh...I keep forgetting. Well, I won't keep you," Po-Seok gives you a sizeable genuine grin and walks off. You chuckle softly as he turns a corner. Suga looks at you attentively, raising your curiosity. Why is he looking at you like that?

"Anything wrong?"You looked into his stare at you. You nervously slide your glasses up your nose.

He shakes his head. A small smirk appears in the corner of his mouth.

"No...nothing."
