That was the day Mary Winchester died. Dean was 4 years and 10 months old, Sam was 6 months. With his vengeance practically seeping from his skin, John took his two sons and hit the road. He kept the Supernatural life from Sammy, but he told Dean everything.

Dean didn't wanna understand what his father was trying to explain to him. Monsters were real and John wanted Dean to learn how to kill them. As much as Dean wanted to cover his ears and wish away all his nightmares and pain. He pushed it all down and promised his dad that he would learn everything about the things that go bump in the night; he would protect his little brother with his life.

One night, John caught Dean looking through his journal. Dean knew he should've asked first, but he just wanted to keep his promise that he made to his dad. Dean was ready for whatever punishment John would lay on him. But John just took a deep breath and let out a scoff before speaking,

"Why do I even bother with you?" Before storming out of the motel room with his keys in hand.

Dean sat on the bed in defeat, his knees pulled towards his chest. He knew where his dad was going. Anytime John wanted to blow off steam, being too exhausted to actual physical or verbally hurt Dean. He would run off to the bar. Dean looks over at his younger brother, a small smile gracing his lips.

John Winchester stayed at the bar for hours. In all honesty, he didn't want to go back to the Motel. Because going back meant he would have to face reality once again.

So what better way to run away from your responsibilities than having unprotected sex with a gorgeous woman?

The next day, John didn't call the woman to check in on her like he said he would. He left and got back to the Motel like nothing happened.

Then the Winchesters were off to another state. After almost a year, John got a phone call and he read the Phone I.D.

Faye Clarke.

With curiosity, John answers the call.

Then Athena entered his life.

Apart of him always regretted answering that phone call.
