Peeta's pov

After the war, Katniss and I settled back in District 12. We decided to let her mother keep Katniss' house, and Katniss and I moved into mine.

A lot of things were different and I had pictures of memories Katniss had to fill me in on. Like I had a picture in my living room of me holding a trophy and Katniss had told me I won the school's wresting competition in grade school.

Although some of my memory was still off, I knew Katniss didn't want to get married right away. I also knew it would be better for the both of us if I continued to see the psychiatrist I had while I was locked in District 13, going there has benefited me greatly.

When Katniss became pregnant with our first child, I had to admit I was overjoyed. I was really excited to become a father, much so I could give it the love I didn't really have growing up.

I planted Primrose around our house when we first moved back in, I wanted Katniss to feel better about the death of her sister. I thought it would be a good way to honor her, and I was right, I could see tears in her eyes as she told me she loved it.

Now we have two kids, Rye and Willow. Rye just turned twelve not too long ago and Willow is five and three quarters. She likes to say it like that.

Katniss seems to be doing okay, at least right now. She still has a lot of nightmares, and I do too but we both know it'll be okay in the end and that the games won't be back again.

Our story starts with me standing next to the oven, waiting for the next loaf of bread to be done. Willow is wrapped around my leg and begging me to take her outside in the meadow.

"Willow, sweetheart. We can't leave the bread in the oven while it's cooking." I explain, picking her up as I hear the door open. Katniss walks in with a small smile on her face. I smile back,

"Where's Rye?"

"Oh he went to go see my mother."

I nod and watch as my wife walks over to quickly kiss my cheek, and then make her way into the living room.

After the death of her sister, Katniss' mother kept her promise and didn't go into another depression. She actually stepped up a lot more. She opened her healing business to the whole town and turned parts of her house into a makeshift hospital. It was admiring to see her mother so strong. I think she did it because Prim would've wanted her to.

I followed her into the living room, Willow trailing quickly behind.

"How was the woods?" I ask calmly, she looked up at me. She had picked up the book we made a couple years ago, the book that describes all the tributes we faced in the games.

"It was good." She says, then she pauses and holds up the book, "I think I want to donate this to the museum." She finishes, scanning my face for a reaction. I nod,

"That sounds like a great idea. We could see Haymitch, Effie, and Magnolia."

Katniss seemed pleased with the idea and smiled, then the oven beeped.

"Oh, c'mon Willow, our bread is done!" I beamed brightly at my daughter. She giggled and ran into the kitchen.

After taking the bread out, I saw Rye walk in. Kicking his boots off by the door, he smiled and held up a brown paper bag.

"Mom! Grandma gave us more herbs for the medicine cabinet!" He shouted, Willow ran up to him and gave him a big hug.

"Hi Rye-Rye!" She yelled, squeezing her older brother. I watched as Rye smiled down and rubbed her hair,

"Hi Lolo." He beamed, then looked up towards Katniss. "Hey Mom, Grandma mentioned something about some games you used to play when you were teenagers."

I looked at Katniss, who seemed hesitant, "Games?" She asked, Rye furrowed his brow.

"Yeah. It was something like the Hunger Games? She said that she would always run out of the herbs that she used to treat people while they were going on."

I watched as all the blood drained from Katniss' face. Frozen, she didn't speak or look at our son. She only looked at the floor. I watched her chest quicken with every decreasing breath she took, and I immediately told Willow to go over to her Grandmother's across the street.

"Willow, sweetheart, can you go over to Grandma's and ask her if she needs any bread?"

Willow followed orders and quickly left, I walked over to Katniss and wrapped my arm around her.

"Dad what's wrong with Mom?" Rye asked, I could tell his voice was getting shaky. I answered him calmly,

"Don't worry buddy, it's just a lot to unpack for us."

I held Katniss' hand with my free arm and guided her towards the living room chair.

"Breathe Katniss, breathe." I could hear her small gasps for air.

"They're too young...they're too, they're too young to know." She choked out, tears streaming down her face. I wiped them away,

"Maybe it is time. At least for Rye."

She swallowed and closed her eyes, mouthing out numbers indicating she was counting to ten. I pressed my forehead up against hers and whispered,

"Think of the woods. The peace, quiet, looming trees, and all the squirrels waiting to have an arrow shot through their eyes."

After a moment this seemed to calm her down, and she looked up at me.

"We should take that trip to the Capitol soon." She muttered, I looked over at Rye, who was standing in the doorway.

"I'm- I'm sorry. I didn't mean to upset Mom." He said, I could hear wanted to cry but he was staying strong for his Mom. A trait he received from Katniss.

"It's okay buddy, we're going to take a trip to the Capitol tomorrow. We'll show you all about the Games and stop and see Haymitch, Effie, and Magnolia."

Rye silently nodded, and I saw a glimpse of what could only be a blush when I spoke of Magnolia. I returned to rubbing Katniss' back and kissed her cheek.

"Everything's going to be okay. The nightmare is over now." I told her.

In the end, I was wrong. A new nightmare was just beginning.
