amelie flood x sam golbach
chapter thirty-eight || 🎬🤍🦢

Sam flicked on the kitchen light and jumped back when he saw Amelie sitting at the table, a slice of toast in one hand and her phone in the other. He dropped his keys and phone on the counter before walking to the fridge and grabbing a bottle of water.

"How was your date?" She all but spat when he opened the bottle.

"Great." He said, rolling the 'r' to make it sound more dramatic.

Amelie narrowed her eyes at him, "Really?" She asked.

He nodded, looking directly in her eyes as he downed the bottle of water, "Really."

She hummed, simply not believing him, "Is that why you're here and not in her house?"

"That's not first date activities." He laughed.

"Is there going to be a second date?" She asked.

"What's it to you?" He questioned, watching as panic flashed through her brown eyes.

She shrugged, knowing exactly what it was to her, "It's nothing to me. Am I not allowed to talk to my friends about their love life?"

"I guess you are." Sam said, "Maybe there'll be a second date? I don't know yet."

"Cute." She mumbled, but not like how she usually said the word, this time it was filled with what could only be jealousy.

"Are you... jealous?" He raised one of his eyebrows, which made Amelie scoff and wipe away the smirk forming on his lips.

"You wish." She said, but it was obvious she was.

"Hey, you're the one who told me you didn't want anything." He defended himself, "You don't get to do that!"

   "Do what?!"

"You don't get to be jealous that I went out. We're not together."

Amelie's jaw dropped. She let out a number of shocked gasps, "Fuck you." She pushed her chair back and stomped over to the bin before throwing out half of her toast, "I wasn't jealous. I was simply... intrigued by my friend's date. Because you know that's what we are. Friends."

"Really?" He said in a higher pitched tone, "I had no idea."

    Amelie shook her head.

Yes, she was jealous. But, yes, she was actually interested in how it went because she was his friend before anything. Before the feelings. Before the stupid, stupid (amazing) kiss. She could have executed the whole conversation better, but she never knew how to hide her feelings or attitude around him.

Amelie went to walk past him, but he caught hold of her arm, "It could've been you tonight."

   "What?"

"I could've bought you dinner. I could've held the door open for you... I could do all the cheesy date things for you, but you won't let me." He spoke softly, "I can't wait forever, Amelie."

Amelie closed her eyes. Her heart threatened to shatter.

She didn't want him to have to feel like he had to wait, but Lord, she couldn't help but feel like a selfish bitch whenever his name was even mentioned by another girl. The thought of Sam being someone else's physically pained her, but the fear of losing him pained her more.

So, if she had to be the bad guy for a little while longer, then she would be.
