CHAPTER FIVE

ITS JUST A HANDSHAKE,
SCOBELL.

The group was hanging out together outside near the bookstore, seated by the outdoor tables. Momona and McKenna were filming a TikTok, while Walker and Harper were working on a new handshake.

Harper had a large original gourmet lollipop in her mouth, making it difficult for her to speak.

"Okay, so, go like this, and maybe, like..." Walker instructed, focused, while Harper tried to follow his hand movements.

Walker nodded, "Okay, I think we got that part down. Let's start from the beginning." Harper nodded in agreement.

As they started their handshake, Harper missed a part, causing Walker to drop his hand and sigh, "Dude! Aryan and I didn't have this much trouble with ours."

Harper furrowed her brows, "๒єςคยรє א๏ย ﻮยאร ๔เ๔ภ't єשєภ ๓คкє เt!" she exclaimed, her words not coming out as well.

Walker narrowed his eyes and laughed, "What?" he said, still chuckling.

Harper sighed and removed the lollipop from her mouth, "I said, you guys didn't even come up with the handshake! You totally ripped it off from Spider-Man. Making something from mind is harder." She put the lollipop back in her mouth.

Walker mockingly nodded, "Yeah, okay, whatever. Just let me show you what you missed."

Malachi walked out of the bookstore, holding a large bag in one hand and his phone in the other. "Guess who's back!" he said with a smile, placing his bag on the same table where Momona and McKenna were sitting.

Momona gasped, "Dude, we're filming here!" she said, moving the bag away and stopping the recording.

"Another TikTok?" Malachi asked, leaning closer to see the phone screen. "You literally made one like 20 minutes ago."

"Yeah, but this time it's on McKenna's account," Momona explained, gesturing towards McKenna.

Harper stopped practicing her handshake with Walker and took the lollipop out of her mouth. "And they've been messing up for the past 10 minutes. The audio is drilled into my brain at this point," she chuckled.

Walker glanced at Harper. "Hello? We need to get this handshake together, Thorne," he said.

Harper tilted her head. "It's just a handshake, Scobell," she laughed, before putting the lollipop back in her mouth.

Malachi looked over at Harper, raising his eyebrows in realization. "Oh, Harper, remember Aidan?" he said, dragging out the boy's name as he approached her. Harper nodded at Malachi's response.

Walker rolled his eyes. "Dude, can we talk about the guy later? I've been hearing his name ever since you introduced him to all of us. Let's just make today an... what's his name again?" Walker looked at Harper, who took the lollipop out of her mouth.

"Aidan," she answered bluntly.

"Yeah, Aidan. Let's make today an Aidan-free day. At least for me," Walker said, tilting his head at Malachi.

Malachi shook his head and chuckled. "Okay, fine," he said, walking over to Momona and McKenna.

"What'd you buy?" Momona asked, glancing at the bag.

"Oh, like two record players and some books. I didn't know they sold more than just books. I got one of the record players for Aidan's birthday. He's also coming over here to Vancouver once we wrap," Malachi explained.

Harper gasped, looking over at Malachi. "He is?!" she said with excitement.

Walker sighed, falling back into a chair and looking up. "Did no one hear what I just said?" he muttered softly, but nobody heard him.

Malachi nodded. "Yeah. He's having his birthday here, so I'm sure we can all come," he said.

McKenna grinned. "Sounds like good news to Harper," she teased, glancing over at her.

"Shut up," Harper muttered, a small smile on her face.

After the conversation died down, Harper noticed Walker sitting and spacing out.

"Are you okay, Walker?" she asked softly, sitting down to face him.

Walker looked over at her. "Yeah, I'm fine," he nodded.

Harper pressed her lips together before speaking. "Wanna finish the handshake?" she suggested, trying to lighten the mood.

Walker shook his head. "Maybe later, if that's okay."

Harper sighed. "Is this about Aidan?" she asked gently, tilting her head to see his face better.

Walker shook his head. "No, no, it's not. I'm just tired."

Harper nodded. "I can tell," she said coldly.

"Huh?"

She squinted at him. "Did you even brush your hair when you got up? It looks like a bird's nest!" she teased, smiling.

"My hair looks perfectly fine. I'm always perfect, thank you," Walker defended, a hint of sass in his voice.

"No, seriously! Do you need me to come over and help you out again?" she asked, trying to keep a straight face.

Walker gasped. "Actually, no thanks. I'm fine on my own. And again, my hair is perfect! Flawless, actually."

Harper scoffed. "More like one of your biggest flaws right now," she said, breaking into a smile.

Walker opened his mouth in mock outrage. "Excuse me?" he chuckled.

"If a blind person were to touch your hair, they probably would think it's a birds nest made out of a lions maine."

Walker's jaw dropped theatrically. "That is so oddly specific?" he chuckled. "Plus, how would you know what my hair feels like?"

Harper took a lick of her lollipop before responding, "You can tell just by the way it looks," she giggled softly.

Walker raised his eyebrows. "Well, you know what..."

Malachi, Momona, and McKenna watched from the next table.

"She knows how to get under his skin," Malachi commented.

Momona and McKenna nodded in unison. "Definitely."

I honestly don't know how to feel about this chapter 😭

But chapter 6 will 100% be taking in their last day on set, which includes the kiss scene that McKenna mentioned in chapter two 🙏
