WALE POV

I let out a rumble of laughter after dropping the call with Eno. I quickly texted her the place and time before losing myself in the thought of her, which I was oblivious to when Yinka, my cousin, stepped into the room.

I allow the smile to linger on my lips, but I'm startled to the point where I sit up from the couch when I hear Yinka clear his throat. He gives me that amusing stare and then laughs while sitting on the brown leather couch across from mine in my living room.

My cousin has been living with me since he returned to Nigeria, feeling reluctant to go home because Aunty never stops her quest to find a suitable wife for him. Just like me, he feels the pressure but doesn't want to get his own apartment either because he's barely in the country. And now I have no choice but to accommodate him.

“My boy has found himself a girl that makes him smile.” He makes fun of me, laughing and observing my brightened-up face.

“Well, you can say that again.” My smile only gets wider.

“So, did she agree to go on a date with you?” He inquires curiously. I had told Yinka about my encounter with Eno during his friend's party. And since then, he has been bragging about how he is my good luck charm.

Well, I can't argue with him on that, though. I had come to that party for a number of reasons. I can only conclude that for Eno, everything was worthwhile.

Why her? Yinka had queried. To be candid, though, I'm still unsure of the answer. However, I find myself drawn to her like a moth to a flame.

“She can't resist me even if she tries.” Still in my happy mood, I stand and move to the mini bar at the left end of the living room. I take out a bottle of wine and two empty wine glasses before inviting Yinka to join me.

“You are right; no girl can resist your charm.” He nods in agreement with my joke and then takes a seat on one of the bar stools as I pour glasses for us both.

"Eno is not just any female, though." I let out a small sigh and then sipped some of the wine.

True, my feelings for her are different. Since I don't believe in love at first sight, and after my most recent breakup, I almost stopped believing in it altogether.

Am I already smitten with Eno? I'm at a loss for words, but after our date tonight, I'll be certain.

"She is so lovely and nice. I still have a lot I want to learn about her."

“Hmmmm, I wish I had met someone as spontaneous at the party too.”

I laugh at my cousin but say nothing to him.

Incessantly praying that Eno won't phone to cancel, I get ready for our evening date. I cover my black pants with a casual white and gold striped button-up shirt. I'm torn between rocking a pair of sneakers or a plain, black shoe. I finally chose the shoe before wearing the gold Rolex watch my sister gave me on my birthday.

I comb my hair neatly to the back and give one final look at my reflection in the long, rectangle mirror attached inside my wardrobe door. Fixing the button on my sleeves, I picked up my phone and car key on the dresser close to my bed and left.
