It was our last day in California, well, it wasn't really a full day. Our flight back to Minnesota left at noon so all of us were rushing to get our bags packed. We had all slept in after a long night of celebration.

I was sitting on my bed, eyes half closed, with my suitcase full of unfolded clothes. I saw a flash go off and I looked over to see Connie, holding one of the disposable cameras that we were given when we first arrived, "Sorry, you just looked funny."

I got off my bed, pulling my suitcase along with me, "Great. Now you've immortalized me."

Connie winked at me, "Always."

I pulled my suitcase to the hallway so it could join the others. Adam's door was open so I walked in and laid down on his bed. He wasn't on it so I had all right.

My face was pushed into my pillow so I didn't see when Adam had walked back in, "You know, you have your own room."

I lifted my head up and put a finger to my lips, "Shhh. I will sleep where I wish."

"Well, we have about," Adam checked the watch that was on his wrist, "Fifteen minutes before we have to go to the airport and Coach is here."

I groaned and pushed my head back into the pillow, "I'm so tired."

I felt Adam sit down on the bed, "Me too." I could just imagine him running his hand through his hair, which was probably what he was doing right now.

"Alright party people! Let's get those bags down to the vans! Up and at 'em." I could hear Gordon's voice announce from the hallway.

"I am not getting up."

"C'mon, let's go Queens."

I groaned again and swiped him away with my hand, then I felt his hands on my body as he picked me up and threw me over his shoulder, walking into the hallway.

"What is Wren doing?" Gordon's voice asked.

"Sleeping." I mumbled, my eyes still closed.

"Wren, get off Adam's shoulder."

"He's the one who put me on him. You should be telling star boy to put me down." With that said Adam set me down and I sat down on the ground and then laid down again.

I opened my eyes to see Adam look over at Gordon, "When I put her down, she won't move."

Gordon sighed and shook her head, "Just leave her there for now. Help move the bags down to the vans."

I was left on the ground until Adam had come back upstairs, "Alright, stand up. We're leaving."

"Leave me here to sleep."

Adam sighed, "God, you sleep the most out of anyone I have ever meant."

I smiled sleepily, "Why thank you, Mr. Banks." Adam lifted me up again, throwing me over his shoulder like a sack of potatoes. I like potatoes.

He had carried me down to the vans and set me down in a van. Averman quickly moved to sit next to me, leaving Adam to sit on the seat farthest from me on the row. I hardly noticed because I was still trying to fall asleep again, "Hiya!" Averman said.

"Hey." I mumbled back.

"Someone is clearly not in the mood to talk." Averman grumbled.

"Not all of us have everlasting energy, Les."

Averman gasped next to me, "She called me by my first name. Adam, she's never done this before. I don't know what to do."

I heard Adam snicker, "Oh hush. Let me sleep." I said as I tried to get comfortable as the van left to the airport.

I did fall asleep until the team started singing songs.

Holy shit did they ever let a girl sleep?

No, the answer was no.

The airplane ride was easier, the team couldn't sing and I wasn't sitting next to Averman. This time I was sitting next to Kenny and Julie who both left me alone and did whatever they did.

By the time we had gotten back to Minnesota, I had more sleep so I didn't have Adam carry me everywhere. The players who lived in Minnesota were picked up by their parents and taken home. The kids who didn't, were taken to the hotel where they had been previously staying in.

Gordon drove us back to Jan's shop and I put all my things back to where I had them originally until Gordon walked in, "Hey, your aunt is on the phone."

"She's your aunt too, you know."

"Yeah, I know. It's just easier to refer to her as your aunt."

"Yeah, whatever." I pushed passed him and went to the phone downstairs, "Hello?"

"Wren?"

"Hi, Erin."

"Oh, hey baby. How was staying with your brother?"

"Wasn't completely awful, we got into some fights but I made a lot of friends here."

"Any boys?" She asked, her voice tilting up.

"Erin..."

I could hear her smile on the other side of the phone, "Well, I would like to hear the answer."

I sighed and leaned against the wall, "I mean...yeah. I guess. There was two of them."

"Was? Two?" She kept trying to push for answers.

"Yeah, one of them was a kid from the Iceland team, Gunnar. Adam's the other one."

"Oh! I can't wait till you tell me more when you come back home. I can't wait to see you. I missed you, Wren."

I smiled, "Yeah, I miss you too. Um, hey. So, when do I come home?"

"Three days." She answered quickly.

"Wait, what? That soon? I wasn't expecting, I mean, I kind of like it here, I'm, wait, three days? That's all I have?"

Erin laughed a little over the phone, "I thought you'd be at least a little more excited."

"No, I am. It's just...I made a lot of friends here. I didn't realize that I'd only have three days left with them." I bit my lip and closed my eyes, leaning my head against the wall.

Erin was quiet over the phone for a minute, "I...I know you'll miss your friends, but you can always make more here. Just get their phone numbers and you can call them whenever you want."

"Yeah...I'll talk to you later."

"Wren-" I cut her off and ended the call.

Gordon walked into the room, "So, for tonight, I was thinking we do a little fire with the team. You know as one final-Wren? What's wrong?"

"Did you know that I only had three days left here?"

Gordon opened his mouth and then closed it, "Erin just told me."

"Ok. Um...so tonight. Fire?"

"Yeah, yeah. I was thinking around 8 everyone meets up."

"Cool, cool." I left the room going back up to mine.

I wasn't ready to leave my friends, nor did I expect it to be so soon. I was upset but I knew a part of me was so ready to go back to Illinois. But, another part of me wishes that I could stay here, in Minnesota.

At 8, all of us had met for the fire. We were sitting around it and roasting marshmallows. I was taking in the moment, enjoying what I knew would be one of my last moments with my friends. I was trying to not to cry when my attention got diverted to Goldberg who had caught his marshmallow on fire, "Woah! Help me! Help me!"

Charlie grabbed the stick, "You're not supposed to light it on fire!" as he buried it in the dirt and poured water on it. We all laughed at Goldberg, of course Goldberg was the one to make us laugh.

Dwayne was playing the guitar as Averman started singing, "I've paid my dues. Time after time. I've done my sentence, but committed no crime."

The team all joined him as we all continued, "And bad mistakes. I've made a few. I've had my share of sand kicked in my face but I've come through."

Fulton and Dean started going a little crazy at the on and on and on part as we all continued singing.

At the end of the song, I turned to Adam and whispered to him, "I need to talk to you about something."

"Yeah, ok."

We stood up and left the group, not going far but far enough to where no one would hear us, "What's up?" He asked me.

"I'm going back to Illinois, in well I guess two days now."

"What? But...but I don't want you to leave."

I looked away and back towards our friends around the fire, "I'm not sure I want to leave either, Adam."

"Then stay. Just, I don't know, just live with Coach or something."

I laughed shortly, "Yeah, in Jan's shop? Pass. Adam I just, I don't really get a say in the matter. My aunt is my legal guardian, what she says goes. And she says I go back to Illinois."

Adam bit his lip and then pulled me into a hug, "I'm gonna miss you, Queens."

I smiled into his chest, "Of course you will. Who wouldn't miss me?"

I felt his chest vibrate as he chuckled and pulled away, "Does anyone else know?"

"No. I wanted to tell you first, before I told the rest of the team."

"Alright. Well, then, I guess we should go back."

I nodded and we went back.

After a while I decided now was the perfect time to tell everyone, they had all calmed down and we coming to the crash in the sugar rush, "Hey, um, I have something I need to tell you guys." The team looked at me expectantly and I saw Adam look down out of the corner of my eye, "Um, so, in two days I'm going back to Illinois."

The team immediately started questioning me, asking why and why I couldn't just stay, "I mean, technically I live there. My aunt lives there and I have to go home. I love you guys and the friendships I've made here aren't comparable to any others I've made. So, I'm really going to miss you guys."

The two days were up after having spent all my time with the team. They had all played one last scrimmage with each other, for memories sake. There was a lot of photos taken and a lot of memories made, alongside the tears that were shed.

We all stood in the airport, everyone preparing to go back to the home states. There was a round of hugs thrown around and even more tears shed.

"I'm really going to miss you guys." Was said almost a million times.

I was about to leave for my gate, after giving the team another round of hugs when Adam called for me, "Wren! Wait!"

I turned around and he kissed me, the team wolf whistled behind us, "Alright, alright. Lips off my sister." Gordon said.

Adam and I pulled apart, laughing at Gordon. Then we gave each other one last hug, "Goodbye."

"Bye."

He rejoined the team and I waved at them, "Bye, guys."

They all waved goodbye and I turned around, leaving them. I didn't turn back for another look, not wanting them to see the tears in my eyes.

As the plane took off, I waved goodbye to Minnesota and my friends.

Goodbye.
