How to make sure you won't forget anything during the holidays! (Sophie)

Hello girlies! Sophie here. Summer holidays are almost here for most of us, aren't they? No more waking up early, studying until you pass out from tiredness and endless exam stress. It's time for fashionable outfits, sunbathing, swimming in the beach and eating as much ice-cream as possible (or for some cases, skiing on a mountain, having snowball fights and making snowmen with your friends). Either way it means having fun.

However, having fun doesn't mean forgetting everything you've learnt the previous year! Be honest here. How many times has it happened that you get back from your summer holidays only to realize that your brain has emptied of everything you've learnt about last year? And how many times has that leaded you to failing an exam or getting ridiculed in front of your entire class? Unfortunately, it has happened quite a lot of times for me, so I decided to give you a few tips that will not allow that to happen again (they can also be used for learning in general)

I know it is cliché but as Plato himself said (yes this was actually first said by Plato): "Repetition is the mother of learning." If you don't revise at all during the summertime, then it will be very hard for you to remember everything you've learnt the year before. Even if you are a straight A student you will find yourself forgetting details and important techniques, useful for the new school year. I'm speaking for experience when I say you need to revise in order to remember everything .

I know nobody wants to work during a trip or a journey. I don't either. My solution for this is to only work during the period before and after your trips, when you are at home. Make notes of every important chapter for each class. Write your notes with cool pen colors or use highlighters to make writing and reading them more fun! Put some cool stickers too! Maybe even draw some sketches about the subject if it helps you remember or learn it! Then, just before school starts, read your notes again! Believe me, it will be a huge help.

Use your top intelligences and learning style to help yourself learn. If your TI is linguistic and your learning style is visual (like me), you will probably not have a problem in reading notes or passages from your books. On the other hand, if your TI is naturalist and you're a kinesthetic learner you will most likely find it hard.

If you're a visual learner, there are quite a few ways that you can revise and make sure the information will stay in your brain. You can make spidergrams and diagrams, graphs, pictures that include information in visual form, watch videos and movies or documentaries to help you learn. You can also try to combine it with your TI. If your TI is naturalist for example, you can take long walks in a local forest or a nice meadow and try find something to match between the subject you need to learn about and the nature surrounding you. If your TI is musical (although most people with Musical TI are auditory learners) you can write a song about the subject and try to learn the lyrics in order to remember that.

If you're an auditory learner, revising through notes and books will be quite hard for you. Compose melodies and write songs based on your notes and then listen to it until it's stuck in your mind. Use audios of the passages in your book. Buy audiobooks instead of actual books. Find videos on YouTube and close your eyes to concentrate on listening to them instead of watching them. If you are an auditory learner with a linguistic TI, read your notes and passages loudly.

If you're a kinesthetic learner (meaning that you are more of a practical person and learn better by acting rather than learning things in theory) you should try to turn your notes into action. Try to turn math equations and problems into small acts or try to adapt them into your lives. Apply your chemistry knowledge to experiments! Practice talking in another language with your friends! Remake your favorite movie skills in another language! Rewrite the dialogues or improvise at the moment! Generally try to find ways to turn theory into action.

There is no need for revising to be boring! Gather your friends or family and find a board game that fits the subject(s)  you are revising about! Find funny quizzes online and see who can answer the most questions correctly! If you can't find any fitting games/quizzes then make your own! Draw your board game on an old carton and use plastic bottle caps or a cola can opening thingy (I think they're called ears?) for pawns. Remember to recycle them when done! For a quiz, you can use a few pages of your note-keeping notebook without cutting them off so that you can use it on your friends later on! You can also make question cards and make your friends ask you the questions there.

I hope these few tips helped. Remember to not let your stress and study-mania (if you have it) take over your holidays! After all, school holidays are meant to be a resting period for students. With a bit of revising and loads of fun, I'm sure you'll have an amazing summer and you will also be ready for the incoming school year!

Love y'all <3
