She's the daughter of a vampire born in 1792 and a witch born in 1964. The vampire blood that runs through her veins delays her aging by 6 years. Age wise, she's 26. But biologically, she's 20. When she was 7, she looked like she was a year old. It makes no sense, obviously, but that's how she was.

Her closest friends know of this birth defect, as she calls it, and don't mind. I mean, they've been friends since they weren't even in the fetus.
