ARA WAS BORN in gyeonggi on october 31, 2004. when she was 1, her family moved to peterborough in order for her and her brothers to have better opportunities.

ever since they were young, they were attached to their brothers' hips. whether it was playing games, in school, or somewhere around town, you couldn't find ara without one of their brothers in the vicinity. so, when their eldest brother received an xbox 360 on his birthday, it was natural for the three siblings to share it. their parents were unaware as to what games were appropriate for their kids, so they ended up buying the trio call of duty: modern warfare 2, and they were hooked. for months after receiving the game, the siblings spent their days rushing through their schoolwork in order to play against others online. eventually, their parents also bought the family a wii and a copy of a just dance game, which only ara found interest in.

just dance made her grow to love dance, almost as much as she loved call of duty. every weekend, she would invite her friends over for a sleepover, and they would stay up late playing just dance until they couldn't stand anymore. after playing every song in multiple games in the series, she started to dream of becoming a dancer. her parents were supportive and enrolled her into a dance academy. at this academy, her class mainly did choreographies to popular songs, and one day, they made a routine to a rap song. she had never listened to rap music before, but she really liked the song, and she started listening to more rappers.

they always loved to dance, but the thought of becoming a rapper interested them as well. but how could they be both a dancer and rapper? they were frustrated, and while they were venting to one of their cousins in south korea, they suggested for ara to become an idol. did they know what kpop was? no, but if it would let them become a rapper and dancer, they might as well try. they approached their parents about the idea, but they were hesitant at first because of the horror stories they heard from their friends, and they came to canada to give their kids more opportunities that weren't available in south korea. but ara was persistent, and eventually, their parents caved and shipped them off to seoul in 2018.

seoul was a hard adjustment for her; her aunt and uncle were very different from her parents, the school system was harsh, and she had no time to pursue her goal once her pots symptoms started to present. she constantly doubted her decision and thought of giving up — maybe go back to canada, work a shitty retail job, and work with dance on the side. but something inside her told her to keep going, so she did, and in 2018, she auditioned for ardor & co.

         ꕀꕀ competitive ⨾ ara's an avid gamer, and if there's one thing playing online games does to someone, it's make them obsessed with competition. and for her, that turned into an obsession with winning.

         ꕀꕀ VALERIE ⨾ the second the whispers that valerie joined the company spread around, ara was shocked. they were a very casual fan of 5ifty, and they were stunned that one of their idols would choose to share the halls and training rooms of ardor & co. with them. ara wanted to make valerie feel welcomed, but they knew they would be too much of a fangirl, so they tried to keep their distance. but debuting together made them extremely nervous, and eventually, they had to interact with valerie. but no matter how close they get, ara will never tell valerie she was a 5ifty fan, because other trainees were adamant that no one bring valerie's past up.
         ꕀꕀ SERENITY ⨾ ara helped serenity through training, leading serenity through difficult dance routines and offering help with rapping. the two had matching energies, both focusing on rapping and dancing, spending many days together. if they didn't debut together, she would have been upset. and now, years into their debut, she still thinks the same. to her, serenity is her best friend.
