the books that fluttered lightly through her fingertips, as her converse grip to the ladder beneath her.

one hand holding the the support of the cool metal that burned at her palm, and the other hand slithered along the leather that each book caressed.

her blonde hair that had grew out, held behind her back in the small dutch braids kiara and had placed in her hair the night before.

and the apron tightly hugging her body, almost squeezing the girl to death as she felt the dents dig into her waist leaving temporary markings on her flesh.

"careful" a voice calls up to the girl making her roll her eyes
"you might fall, little layla" his voice makes her green eyes look down at him smug figure.

"please, i never fall" she calls back down to him, grasping a book and pulling it out of the top shelf before placing it under her arm and stepping down off the ladder.

step by step

"that's what they all say, then next thing you know...you've got two broken legs" jackson smiles as he holds his hand out for the blonde girl to grab as she jumps from the ladder landing on the flooring.

"ha, ha." she mocks shaking her head before turning around and heading towards the till

"not saying i don't like your presence, but why are you in here?" the girl asks sliding under the wooden side door before standing behind the till.

placing the book on the table before turning her head up to watch the boy stand in front of her.

"well, elliot's at work right now and i have no friends...except you" he smiles throwing a wink making the girl lean in her hands as her elbows held her weight.

"how is elliot?" she asked with a smirk on her soft lips as the boy used his hand to push her elbow making her head bounce in reflex.

"he's...elliot?" jackson responded making layla chuckle before hopping over the desk and walking towards the door of the small library that rested on the outside of the island.

no one really went there, leaving layla to read books all day before being scolded by brian for "not doing her job".

flipping the small sign on the door reading closed to the public before turning around and facing jackson once more.

"ellie cheated on me, what did i expect" he shrugged

"karma at its finest" she sung at the boy before walking back and grabbing the two strings that were tied in a bow behind her back.

before his hand grips her wrist making her look up into his grey eyes as his face filled with guilt.

"im sorry" he mumbled and the girl could fully tell how serious he was about the subject making her own hand rest on his.

"im kidding" she smiled softly before leaving his skin and pulling on the string letting the apron become loose at her sides

"besides, im with jj now" layla shrugged looking at the beaded bracelet that reflected in the light on her wrist, quoting the nickname they had for each other.

'smartass' and 'dumbass' how poetic.

"and i, elliot" jackson sighed
"who would've thought?" he chuckles making layla shake her head

"aven did" she mentioned making him lick his lips looking towards the girl who held a slight heartbreak but a smile none the less.

she was healing.

"she always said you had this vibe about you that screamed gay" layla shrugged with a laugh making him look down at the small tattoo on his wrist.

the letter 'E' that reflected along his flesh.

a hand placing on his shoulder making his eyes snap back up to look at the blonde girl who just smiled lightly.

"im proud of you" she commented before the jungle of bells caught their ears turning to see jj walk in with a smile across his face.

leaning over and bowing as he takes his hat off, throwing his head downwards letting his hair shake around.

snapping his head up while his body leant over still looking up through his eyelashes with a smirk.

"m' lady" he calls in a british accent making the blonde shake her head with laughter and jackson smiles.

"see you later" he told the girl who nodded as he walked past jj, giving him a slight fist bump before exiting the building hearing the door snap.

"we're closed" layla called out turning around to grasp at the book that lied on the counter before turning around coming chest to chest with jj as he looks down at her.

"which means no one will come in" he leans down locking their lips as they smack against one another's for a moment.

pulling away and looking up towards the boy, whose eyes fluttered open gently before leaning down pressing a peck to her forehead.

"we've got things to do" he calls as she locks the cash register placing the keys on the hook under the till before grasping at his hand, while the book rested in her other hand.

"and where is that?" she asks confused at the boy who began dragging her out of the store before she stops in her tracks when they get outside the door making him halt in his own steps.

passing him the book in which the blonde gladly accepts as she digs into her pocket pulling out the keys and locking the door, before plopping the key into the flower pot beside her foot and standing back up.

noticing the loose fitted shirt that hung over his body, before grasping at the shirt pulling his body into her own letting the lips collide once more.

as the mould together perfectly, like the lyrics that sway with songs sending streams of passion through your body.

as they pull apart for a breather, the book resting in his palms and his other hand placed on her cheek as it cups her face, when there foreheads pressed together.

"let's go do something illegal" he whispered not allowing her to respond as he drags her away leaving her to complain.

"what are we doing?" the blonde asked the boy as they stood outside of an empty building, with the carpark being isolated and the only movement coming from the couples chests as they pant from the journey before.

the building was on the outside of the island, only a couple miles from the bookstore.

"well, it's your birthday soon" jj shrugged,
"and i wanted to do something special for it because..." he dragged on looking at the floor as layla sighs

"because it's the first one without aven?" she finishes making him look up at her in sympathy and grief.

"it's fine, im okay" she added making him frown at her response

"are you?" he asked her once more making her sigh before his ocean blue orbs connect and glimmer with her dusty green ones.

"no" she shrugged her shoulders looking once more towards the building
"i don't think ill ever be okay, again. but i have to try"

"come on" jj spoke after a moment of silence fills the air as his hand intertwined with her own as he pulls her towards the building.

noticing an open window that led into a dark open space.

"no, no" layla shook her head looking at the boy
"if we get caught, we're dead!" she complained making the boy kiss her forehead before hopping in through the window.

"then let's not get caught" he smirks holding his hand out for the girl to take.

she looks around, noting nothing but trees and sand surrounding them as she gives in, grasping onto the boys hand and allowing him to pull her through entering the dark room.

"wait here" he whispered before running into the darkened area and leaving the blonde by herself hearing the echos of footsteps until nothing surrounded her.

leaving her to herself with the sunlight from the window only shining a slight bit, showing the flooring to be shiny wood.

"jj?" she whispered after it had been silent for too long than she had liked.
"jj!" she called again, hearing her voice echo as she takes a step forward leaving the girl to hear her converse squeak along the shiny flooring making her face cringe.

before the lights are slammed on, allowing her to raise her hand as a spotlight leans down onto her face, blinding her.

moving to the side she sees the colourful lights fill the room, as it dances around.
flipping her head to embrace the atmosphere and lights that swirled around her small body.

seeing jj behind the counter as her places two sets of roller skates on the side making the girl chuckle as she walks over to him with her front teeth dig into her bottom lip.

"what is this?" she asks making jj open his arms and signal around

"this, my dearest layla" he calls lifting his hand to grab at her cheek bringing her face closer to his own,
"is xtreme wheels, a rollerskating rink that nobody knew about until i, the great maybank discovered it"

he finishes bringing her face to his as he kisses the girl before pulling away.

"and how did you find it?" she asked making him turn to face the flooring beneath him as he blushed.

"i fell through the window trying to look into the building" he shrugged making the girl laugh as he pecks her cheek, rolling the skates forward as she grabs them.

"put your skates on" he smirks grabbing his own and running towards the lockers that had benched placed in front of them.

shoving off their shoes and kicking them into the distance and they placed their skates onto their feet and lacing them up.

the girl stands up walking towards the glassy platform as she steps onto it, feeling the coloured lights burn into her skin as her hair flows behind her in the two braids that swayed.

gliding her skates across the flooring as she she felt free.
her body that swept with the skates pushing her forward.

turning around to see the boy wobbling towards the wall that skirted the outside of the platform.

"need some help?" she called out making the boy scoff, as she laughed at him trying to push himself forward.

feeling his legs shake as the skates moved on their own trying to hold his body yet his the floor caused them to roll without his permission.

causing the blonde boy to slip and fall, yet before hitting the ground an arm grasped his wrist letting his eyes connect with laylas who was smirking.

"falling for me, jj?" she asked making him shake his head while crimson flooded his cheeks and neck.

"i did that long ago, rosie" he whispered making the girl smiled as he tried to pull his body back up before his skate slipped sending both the two to the ground.

causing layla to fall onto of jj as his arms gripped her waist.

hearing her laugh echo through the rink as his eyes looked at her face, led against his chest as he laughed with her making her look up at his face.

"looks like we fell for each other" she commented through her laughs making the boy calm his laughter stroking a stand of hair behind her ear.

climbing off of the boy as she pulled her body from the ground, and using the breaks on the skates to hold her still.

holding an hand out for the boy to grasp as he grips onto it, pulling his own body upwards as he holds her hands tight, not releasing them.

"maybe this wasn't a great idea" he shrugged making her laughter run through the air

"it was perfect" she responds leaning up to kiss him once more.

after losing each other, they couldn't leave one another alone.
she left the boat for him, she didn't break their promise.

she couldn't leave him.

pulling his body from the ground as he looks straight into her eyes, with a smirk she begins to guide her body backwards making his face tense as he feels the skates pull him forward.

"rosie" he grumbles as she guides him

"trust me" she sighs as gently glides his body with her own twirling her body around his own as he watched the girl skate like an angel.

never letting go of his hands as she pulled him along with her, their skates rolling across the floor as he nearly slipped over a few more times, being held by the girl that supported his body.

"see, you're doing amazing" she called before they stopped in the middle of the flooring making him halt and look up to her as she smiled.

"i got you something" he told her making her raise her eyebrows in suspicion at the boy while he just smiled.

digging into his back pocket at he pulled out a ring pop wrapper, holding it up to the girl.
seeing her face light up in amusement and adoration at the boys antics.

as he ripped the wrapper open, the sound coursing through their ears as he held out the blue ring pop in his hand.

allowing the girl to slide her finger and watch the candy balance along her middle finger contrasting with the yellow nails that were pained.

"all we're missing is vegas" jj whispered allowing the girls eyes to shoot up to his own with a twinkle

"okay, lover boy" she whispered back letting him pull her body into him as he stood still, yet used his arm to spin the girl around making her giggle

licking his lower lip as he looked into her eyes watching her emotions change from happy to confused

"what's wrong?" he asked making the girl look up towards him

"why are you doing this?" she asked making jjs smile fall as he stared into her eyes seeing the love she held for him

"an early birthday present" he shrugged making her smile yet still look at the boy in front of her weirdly.

"jj" she called out for him,
"when is my birthday?" she asked him making him look at her confused

"september 26th" he nodded his head

watching her face hint at the amusement behind the boys guessing as she laughed to herself shaking her head.

"it's april 26th" she responded making him furrow his brows with a shake of his head.

"no, it's september" jj responded,
"it's definitely september" he argued making the girl just laugh more

"i think i know when my own birthday is" she responded making him frown

"oh, well" he wondered

"it's an early, early birthday present" he smiled using his hand to pull the girl in making him watch her emotions switch.

she looked happy.
so fucking happy.

"hey rosie" he whispered making her look up to him as he brought her even closer.

"yeah?" she responded in a low whisper as their breaths fan against their flesh making their cheeks heat up in crimson lakes that swirl.

"i love you" he told the girl who just blushed harder.

"i love you too" she replied making jj shake his head with an unreadable expression.

"no, no" he argued
"i love you, like-i am so in love with you that i can't imagine my life without you, love you" he told the girl who just smiled warmly at his words

"you don't have to worry about that, im never leaving you" she shook her head before holding out her pinky and letting him sigh.

"just don't hurt me" she smiles as he licks his own pinky with hers.

"i would never hurt you" he responded.

yet the silence was cut short as the slam of the door caught their attention making them look up to see one of the officers from the station hold a torch up to face them, making their eyes open in fear.

"hey!" he shouts

making layla grasp jjs wrist dragging his towards the wall in which she hopped over causing him to not do gracefully climb over as she grasps at both of their shoes pulling the boy towards the window with the skates gliding her through the carpet.

jumping out the window and waiting for jj to do the same as she uses the breaks on the skates to hold her still.

jj didn't, causing him to slightly roll down the hill before he's grabbed and pulled into a bush crouching beside the girl who was pulling her skates off.

"here" she whispers throwing the boy his broken in shoes as he pulls his skates off and begins tying his laces

hearing a panting officer outside causes them to freeze as they turn to look at each other while hiding in the bush.

layla leans up while sat on he knees to peer over the leaves that covered her view, watching the officer look around the building and into the abyss.

before a hand is placed on her inner thigh, using her hand to slap it away and looking down at a surrendering jj who is smirking.

watching the girl as the tight denim shorts stuck to her thighs.

"okay" she sighed as she grabbed his hand pulling his body to stand as she barged the two through the bushes before they ran down the hill hand in hand.

stopping at the beach as they felt the sand melt underneath their steps as the moonlit sky twinkled with darkness and no light to fill the void that dug beneath them.

"ah shit" he heard her voice whisper as he turned to see her looking behind them making him frown

"what's wrong?" he asked her, as turned to face him.

"i left my book on the counter" she explained making the boy shake his head with a light smile.

"we can get it back tomorrow?" he offered making the girl shake her head

she walked forward her feet hitting the sand lighter and lighter and she grew closer to the ocean that relapsed in front of her

"it's okay" she shrugged her shoulders as jj stopped his steps behind her, letting his arms wrap around her waist letting her head lean back onto his shoulder

"i can get a different book" she suggested making him sigh as he presses light kisses along her shoulders

"you work in a bookstore" jj joked
"you can read any book, anywhere" he laughed as the girl chuckles along with him.

listening to the crashing waves, along with the kisses he placed upon her skin.

"can i tell you something" jj spoke up after a moment making the girl nod her head humming along with it

"i think jacksons trying to bang me" he spoke making the girl burst out in laughter as she turns around to face the boy looking at his serious face.

"im being serious, it's not funny" he admits, "since he's come out, he's been very friendly"

"maybe because you're hot" layla shrugged making jj think about it before nodding with a smile.

"that's definitely it" he nods making the girl laugh again as he picks her up over his shoulder making her grip onto his back as he spins her around in the sand

placing her down as she focuses on his face, before rising on her tiptoes to kiss him.

his lips were minty yet soft.
as they burn at the connection through the passion and love they held for one another.
