You slipped off your shoes at the door of your and Koshi's home. Several of your joints popped as you stretched towards the ceiling, a heavy sigh of relief escaped your lips. Working late brought added stress to whoever became its unlucky victim. Silence echoed through the rooms. The rooms were empty; void of lively young children. In particular, a four-year-old and a nine-month-old. You saw the time, knowing if you had not needed to work late, you would be putting your children to bed.

With a small number of steps, you arrived at the door to the children's shared bedroom. It was not entirely closed, perhaps half-open. You carefully peered inside, hoping to not draw much attention to yourself. You heard the soft sound of your husband's voice, reciting familiar words.

"And they lived happily ever after," Koshi said. You caught glimpses of the man tucking his young children into bed, laying kisses to their soft foreheads. You backed away from the door, giving him room to squeeze out. He flicked off the lights, leaving only the faint glow of a small nightlight in the corner of the bedroom. The door clicked shut.

"Hi, sweetheart," Koshi greeted kindly, reaching out to embrace you. You hugged him tightly, the lingering scent of his cologne giving you some sense of relief.

"I'm so sorry," You apologized to him quietly. "I got held up at work, I hope the kids didn't give you too much trouble." Koshi chuckled.

"They were no trouble at all," He assured you, kissing the top of your head. "The school had distance learning today, so it was easy to keep them occupied." Koshi's kind walnut eyes observed the fatigue that was beginning to break through to your surface with a small smile. "But I think it's time to tuck you into bed."

Koshi took your hand in his and led you to the bedroom you shared, just a few paces across the hall. In comfortable silence, you crawled into bed. The warm and welcoming covers made your tiredness catch up to you. The sheets were not the only thing that managed to wrap themselves around you. Koshi cuddled up to your side, a content smile on his face.

"You're an amazing father," You muttered. The sight of him reading your children a bedtime story warmed your heart. Koshi had such a way with kids, it seemed to come so naturally to him. He was a wonderful elementary school teacher as well.

"That's sweet," He said with his eyes closed. "It's only because I love them so much. And because I love you." He kissed your face again, feeling himself growing closer and closer to swimming in the depths of sleep.

"I love you too," You reminded him softly. His arms were wrapped snugly around your waist, sending warm and confronting feelings throughout you. There were days you could not spend much time with Koshi or the kids, those days were the worst days. Ideally, most of your time would be spent with the three most important people in your life. Alas, bills needed to be paid.

Your fingers gently combed through his silver locks, feeling how soft they were. You had always liked the smell of Koshi's shampoo. His fingertips snuck up under your pajama shirt, resting against your skin chastely. Though you exchanged no words, anyone could see and feel the connection you shared. The sweet feeling of being together lulled you to sleep, your eyes falling shut.

And they lived happily ever after.
