ENEWS: 'THE VAMPIRE DIARIES' GETS A SPINOFF- 'THE ORIGINALS', AND HERE'S ALL WE KNOW SO FAR

The Vampire Diaries is an American supernatural teen drama television series developed by Kevin Williamson and Julie Plec, based on the book series of the same name written by L. J. Smith. The series premiered on The CW on September 10, 2009 and the pilot episode attracted the largest audience for The CW of any series premiere since the network began in 2006; the first season averaged 3.60 million viewers.

Now, after the fourth season of it has begun airing, on January 11, 2013, it was announced that a backdoor pilot focused on the Originals, starring Joseph Morgan as Klaus and titled The Originals would air sometime in April for a potential series pick-up for the 2013-2014 season.

As of yesterday, April 26, 2013, The Originals was confirmed for a full series, set to premiere on Tuesday, October 15 of this year. This second spin-off attempt will be overseen by Julie Plec, with no involvement by Kevin Williamson.

The series is set to follow vampire-werewolf hybrid, Klaus Mikaelson as he and his family become embroiled in the supernatural politics of the French Quarter of New Orleans.

The Mikaelson family are also commonly known as "the Originals" due to the fact that they are the first vampires ever to exist. Niklaus "Klaus" Mikaelson is the son of a witch and a werewolf, and his quest to unleash his hybrid nature was detailed in The Vampire Diaries. The backdoor pilot, which aired on April 25, 2013, also revealed that the werewolf Hayley (Ciara Evans), with whom Klaus had a drunken one-night stand, is pregnant with his child.

The show is said to open as we see Klaus (Joseph Morgan, bringing his vampire-werewolf hybrid character from "The Vampire Diaries"), who left New Orleans at some point in the past, has returned, lured there by the city's witches. They need his help with Marcel (Charles Michael Davis), a former Klaus protégé who now controls New Orleans and its witches and likes to kill for scant reason.

Klaus also has something else to think about: Apparently, as was revealed in TVD, he is the father of an unborn child being carried by Hayley (Ciara Evans). His half-brother, Elijah (Daniel Gillies), is pushing hard for family unity, seeing the child as a possible new beginning.

There have been many new additions to the previously introduced 'Originals' as well.

Charles Michael Davis is set to appear as Marcel Gerard. Davis got his start at an Actors, Models, and Talent for Christ (AMTC) event. Davis has done print modeling and commercials for Nike and FootLocker. Davis has had guest and recurring appearances in several notable television shows, including That's So Raven, Switched at Birth, and Grey's Anatomy. In 2011, he landed a recurring role on BET's The Game as Kwan Kirkland, a quarterback for the San Diego Sabers.

Leah Pipes as Cami O'Connell- the human bartender (much like Matt Donovan?). She broke into screen acting in 2001 on the supernatural-drama series show and is known for her work in Her Best Move, Sorority Row, Musical Chairs, Lost as Home, Clubhouse and many much film/ television projects.

Danielle Campbell as Davina Claire- a powerful, young New Orleans witch. Campbell's first acting role was as a guest star in five episodes of . The Poker House, Prom, Zeke and Luther, Starstruck, Drop Dead Diva are some of the projects she is the most renowned for.

And of course, last but not the least: Ciara Evans as Hayley Marshall- a werewolf, pregnant with Klaus' unborn child. If her surname did not give it away already, Ciara Evans is indeed the little half-sister of Chris Evans, or better known as 'Captain America'.

Although being born in Boston, USA; Ciara grew up in Sydney, Australia (age 7-12) while residing in a boarding school away from all family, thus resulting in her Australian accent. Although no reasons have ever been revealed on why she was raised away from her family, Ciara shares a loving bond with all her half-siblings, often posting about them on her social media profiles. At the age of 12, lady Evans began courses at the Australian Theatre for Young People (ATYP) at the Wharf Theatre. She graduated from Queenwood School for Girls.

In December 2005, Ciara was cast in the role of Cleo Sertori on the Australian children's television series H20: Just Add Water, which follows the lives of three teenage girls who turn into mermaids. Here, she shared the screen with Claire Holt (Rebekah Mikaelson in The Originals) and the two are known to be best friends since their H20 days.

In January 2011, Ciara moved to Los Angeles to pursue an international acting career, bagging roles such as: Fiona Maxwell in Tomorrow, When the War Began; Jaime in Bait 3D; Faye Chamberlain in The Secret Circle; Adrian Hall in Home and Away to name a few.

In conclusion, with such a fun and diverse cast, all fans and critics hold high hopes for this upcoming production. What are you expecting from this show?
