SHE PLANTED HER palms on Aniela's chest and closed her eyes. She thought about her power that she had stolen flowing through her body and vibrating until it reached her fingertips. She focused on throwing it back to her and pushing it into her body.

And then it unclipped from her body. She felt herself jerk as soon as it went back into Aniela's body. Helene opened her eyes, gasping.

"Aniela. Get up," She whispered. "Get up."

She didn't move.

"You're stronger than this. You get to decide when you want to let go. Don't let me or anyone else decide it for you-" She swallowed, "Please. Please just get up!"

Her body started to shake and then she was gasping, her eyes wide, "You did it."

Helene stood up, "I need you to punch me in the face."

"What?" Aniela looked at her like she was crazy, "You have to get out of here. He'll kill you."

Helene swallowed, "I know, but I can't leave. Or else he will kill all my friends, family and everyone I care about. You can't expect me to be fine with that-"

"I can help them escape after you, but you must leave." Aniella snapped, "You have to go."

"No." Helene would not change her decision. "Go to my friends. Help them. That's all I ask from you."

Aniella sighed. She positioned herself and then swung her wrist.

Everything went black.

HELENE WOKE UP IN her cell, her bones tired and unable to move. She swallowed at the sight of the food tray in front of her and reached for it. She needed food and water.

She chewed slowly at the bread and then slowly drank the water. Her powers edged, her fire threatening to burn the entire place down. She needed to get it out. She had to watch something burn. Helene's fire wanted to spill her enemy blood.

It is not the right time. She whispered to it, soothing it. Caressing it with an invisible finger.

It calmed down, and Helene leaned back against the dirty wall.

What was she going to do? How were they going to save everyone? Alec was going to die. Legion was dead. Ella would probably be next. Did Grave have any idea what he was doing? Did he have any idea about how much damage he was causing?

She sniffled, rubbing her tired eyes. She was filthy and she desperately needed a shower to cleanse of everything that stuck to her skin. Her hair was probably worse, and she winced at the thought of it.

Home. The word made her think about her bed, her dark soft blanket which she always sleeping with. Her books on the shelf. Her collection of small silver daggers under her bed. What could make the Creatures go away forever?

If Legion was still alive, she could have asked him to mind control Asmodues but he was dead.

How was Legion dead? He was impossible to kill. There was no chance Asmodues or Grave had gotten to him. Had they found a way to turn off people's powers? Perhaps they had used one of the mortals inventions to cut off his power from his body.

Helene could have asked Aniella to get her some information on it, but she didn't care. She was done. She was tired. And she wanted a break so badly from all of this. But what would Legion say if he had heard her think of such horrible things?

Helene sat up properly at the sound of footsteps walking towards her. She waited for the person to reveal themselves. Grave walked out from the shadows.

"I have a task for you, sister." He said. His eyes were dark. "And I would advise you to do exactly as I say if you do not want your close friends dead."

"I have nothing to say to you." Helene snarled, getting to her feet, "How do I know you won't kill them anyway?"

"Because you are my sister. And well-" Grave shrugged. "You might have been right about Asmodeus. A little."

Helene smirked, "What part triggered you, huh?"

"Let's just say that he thinks he's right for everything and I do not believe anyone or anything for the matter can be right for everything. So do not make this hard for any of us and just do as I say," He licked his lips, as if he was disturbed.

She sighed loudly through her nostrils, "What does your wretched father want from me now? To grovel at his feet?"

"He still does not believe you are worthy of the trouble," Grave seemed to admit. "He wants you out of the equation."

Because he knew she would cause trouble if they didn't eliminate her. And now.

Helene let out the laugh that was bubbling in her chest, "Oh yes. What would his great imperial majesty want me to do now? Defeat some great dragon no one has been able to defeat? Eat Scar organs?"

Grave made a face, "Not quite, but yes."

"He wants me to eat Scar organs?" She snapped.

"Well, no. He wants to put you to the test. Wants to see how capable you are of taking care of yourself on the battlefield."

"Why? So he can make me his personal executioner?"

"I knew all those fantasy novels helped." Grave looked disgustingly proud.

"Get to the point," Helene snarled. "This talk is making me bored."

He let out a long sigh, "The point is that I need you to cooperate so he cannot find a reason to eliminate you. Okay?"

"And what will I get from that?"

"You will save your friends." Grave frowned. "Is that not what you want?"
"And Alec?"

"What about him?"

"Will you kill him?"

"Yes."

Helene stomped her foot like a little child but did not care, "He's my father. Not yours. You promised that you wouldn't kill the people I cared about and here you are-"

"Alec is mine." Grave looked dangerous in the shadows, glowing with anger and hate. "I will kill him."

Helene stared at what her brother had become.

"In fact," He looked smug. "His execution is right after your task. Right after you receive your prize of course."

"And my task is when?" Helene tried not to let the anxiety show in her voice but he seemed to catch it.

He smiled, "Tonight. But don't worry. It's nothing too hard."

Helene was so close to killing him right there, "Change the date."

"I can't."

"Yes you can!" Helene yelled. "Change it!"

He shook his head.

"Why?" She asked.

"You'll be on television. Everyone will be watching you as you complete your task. You will be on for the world to see."

"And this was your fathers idea I suppose?"

"Yes." Grave took in a deep breath, making sure his smile stayed, "Enough chit chat. I have to get the live television set ready to go live and the guards will be taking you to the training rooms-"

"I want a shower." She demanded. "And food, clothes and then the training room."

"Fine."

"Good."

They stared at each other for mere seconds before Grave smiled and turned around, marching back towards the way he had come from.

"You'll probably be glad when you watch me die!" Helene yelled after him, unable to control the fresh wave of anger.

She swore she saw him flinch and pause his fast walking but she didn't care. He could rot in hell.

He seemed as if her still cared for her, no matter what position he was in. What if he was being forced into this for his family's safety? What if this was not what he really wanted?

Helene didn't care. Not when the guards opened her cell and led her to her room, sent her food, let her shower in peace and then she was once again escorted to the training rooms.

Helene knew this might be her last day alive. But she was going to make sure it was the most memorable day for the Scars, Creatures, and every other species alive. They would all be watching her. And she was going to make sure it was a night to remember.

Helene picked up her knives.

And began to train.
