Candy locked the door behind me. "C'mon, you have to drive the 'Cuda to the reunion."

I sighed as I pulled the keys out. "Fine, c'mon or we're gonna be late."

We got in the car and started it up before heading off for the school.

My reunion had already come and gone years ago and I didn't attend it for a reason, because I hated school. But, Beth and Kris talked me into going, so here I was, on my way to the school I left behind.

We pulled into the packed parking lot, spotting Beth and Kris by the front door.

We walked up and they smiled. "I'm glad you decided to come." Kris said.

"Trust me, I fought like hell not to." I replied.

Candy laughed. "Yeah, well, I can be very persuasive." She said, planting a soft kiss on my cheek.

Beth made a gagging noise. "C'mon, Stephanie and Billy are already inside."

We followed them into the familiar halls, searching for Stephanie and Billy. When we finally found them, they were chatting with a guy I hadn't seen in years.

"Mr. Wilkes?" I asked.

He turned to me with a smile. "Well, if it isn't my favorite ex-student."

I smiled back and pulled him into a quick hug. "How've you been? I haven't seen you in, like, forever."

He laughed. "I've been good, how about yourself?"

I plastered on a fake smile. "Great, I've been great."

He nodded. "That's great."

Candy cleared her throat next to me.

"Right, this is my girlfriend, Candy." I said.

He smiled and shook her hand. "Mr. Wilkes, good to meet you."

She smiled back. "Likewise."

Then, he turned to me again, a sad look on his face. "I was sorry to hear about the divorce. You guys seemed really happy together."

I looked down. "Yeah, I thought so to."

He patted my shoulder. "Well, food's in the auditorium and I'm sure there's some other teachers who'd love to see you."

I laughed slightly. "I doubt that."

He joined my laughter. "It was good to see you again. Have fun you guys, I gotta run."

We said our goodbyes and waved him off before heading to the auditorium. It was packed, but we were able to grab some food and a few empty seats at the long tables.

Stephanie and Billy joined us, but Beth and Kris decided to go explore a little.

"It feels like forever since I've been here." Stephanie said, looking around the auditorium.

"Tell me about it." I replied.

Before our conversation could go any further, another familiar face passed us.

"Steve?" I asked, barely recognizing him.

He turned to me, slightly shocked. "Skylar? What're you doing in here?"

I gave him a confused look. "What do you mean?"

"I mean, shouldn't you be out there with Rebecca?" He said, pointing towards the doorway.

I dropped my fork. "Sh-she's here?"

He nodded, looking slightly confused now. "Yeah, isn't that why you're here?"

I felt Candy's hand in mine then. "Maybe we should go." She said, leading me out of my seat.

"What'd I say?" I heard Steve ask behind me as we walked out of the auditorium.

My head was spinning as we pushed our way through the crowd. "She's here?" I whispered.

Then, we stopped, Miss June blocked our path. "Skylar? I didn't think I'd see you tonight." She said.

But, I didn't answer, my mind still swarming. 'What was she doing here? Did she really fly all the way from California for a high school reunion?'

Then, I heard her voice. "Hey, mom, I've been looking all over for you."

She stopped dead in her tracks when I locked eyes with her.

"Skylar?" She mouthed.

Now, don't get me wrong, Candy had gorgeous eyes but, they weren't the eyes I originally fell in love with. No, those eyes were standing a few feet in front of me.

"I... Uh..." I couldn't get a word out.

Candy squeezed my hand. "Sorry but, we should really get going." She said, leading me out the door.

I looked back at Rebecca's shocked face as we made our way down the front steps.

Then, I heard her call out. "Skylar! Wait!"

I knew I shouldn't have but, something inside of me made me stop walking.

Candy stopped as well and looked back at me. "Skylar?"

I just shook my head.

Then, I heard her voice behind me. "Skylar, can we talk?"

I squeezed Candy's hand. "I'll meet you at the car."

"Are you sure?"

I just nodded.

She looked like she wanted to protest but, decided against it. Planting a quick kiss on my lips before walking away.

"So, that's her?" Rebecca asked.

I slowly turned around, coming face to face with her.

"Uh, y-yeah... What're you doing here?" I found myself asking.

"I'm here for the reunion." She replied with a small smile, gesturing towards the school.

I nodded. "Right... um, how're the kids?"

She looked down, playing with her finger nails. "They miss you but, other than that, they're fine."

I looked down as well. "Are they here?"

"Yeah, they're at my aunts."

I nodded before growing quiet.

She was silent for a second as well before she spoke again. "How're you?"

I looked up. "Oh, I'm uh, fine. How about you?"

She nodded. "I'm good, works good."

"That's good..."

"The kids would really like to see you before I leave." She said.

"How long are you in town?"

"A couple weeks... you should come by, I'm sure my aunt's would love to see you to."

I nodded. "Yeah, sure. I'd like that."

She smiled. "How does Friday sound?"

"Sounds good, I'll be there."

"Great... You should bring her with you." She said, gesturing towards Candy, who stood next to the car, watching the whole thing.

I took a quick glance at her before looking back at Rebecca. "You sure?"

She smiled and nodded. "Of course. She should meet the kids."

"Alright, then, we'll be there Friday."

"Great, we'll see you then."

"Yep."

She gave me one last smile before waving and walking off.

I didn't budge though, I just watched her walk back into the school.

Then, I felt a hand on my shoulder. I turned to see Candy standing behind me.

"You ok?"

I nodded slowly. "Yeah... you free Friday?"

"I'm not sure, why?"

"Well, she invited us to go see the kids... I'd really like you to come."

She squeezed my shoulder. "Then, I'll be there."

And, with that, we walked back to the car and headed home.

I was in complete shock. I didn't expect to see her there and I definitely didn't expect her to invite me over. But, I wanted to see the kids. I wanted Candy to meet the kids and if that meant I'd have to see Rebecca for a day, then I could live with that...

Hopefully...
