Marinette is heartbroken over the death of her mother. What is she to do? Where is she to go? It is not as if her mom has any relatives she may stay with now. There is no family on her father's side to speak of either. She is afraid. Afraid to be without her mom the one who loves her, the only one who knows how she feels about life and just about everything. She keeps quiet. She dares not to cry. She thinks, maybe if no one notices me, I will be fine. If they take me away, what am I to do? Oh, I must not weep. I must stay calm. For my sake, if not for anyone else's. I do not wish to be a burden to anyone.

The young girl, Marinette try as she might not keep the tears away. She thinks the pain of her mom's death is too unbearable. Life is too cruel to rob her of her only parent! Why? Why did this happen? Why could no one stop this? Why, oh why? She cries. She sobs as she has not in years. She feels someone grab her from behind.

"The orphanage is not so bad.  You can spend time with other children your age,"  A man states.

"Please, not the orphanage! Let me go." Marinette protest.

"I promise, I will be good. Just do not take me there, please!"

The man looks at her in pity. He wishes there were something more he could do for her. There is no other choice as her mother is gone. He takes her to the orphanage for girls despite her obvious protests about it. Once there, he drops her off with her pillow, doll, small bag with a few belongings, and paints. He leaves her there as if she were nothing.

Now, Marinette is hurt even more.  The traitor, how could he do this to her? It was bad enough her mom died.  Why did he leave her amongst the rude, cruel children who were jealous of her?
