Six-year-old Alice Kingsleigh had the most extravagant dreams anyone could have. These recurring dreams kept happening in a marvelous place called Underland where anything was possible. She met lots of creatures and fought many battles. Her father knew about this for she always told him every vivid detail. One particularly important person in her visions was a young girl with blonde hair and a pale blue dress who was so sweet to her. 

She was remarkably close to her. Alice never knew her name, so she called her 'Izzy' because she felt that suited her the most. After her father died, she continued to have those fantasies, but they were without Izzy. Alice wanted to know what happened to her, so she told her mother about her dreams. Unlike her husband, Helen Kingsleigh told Alice to forget those dreams because they would lead her to the path of insanity.

Ten-year-old Ella lived happily in Underland with her parents. She had lots of friends like the Cheshire Cat, the Mad Hatter, and a young girl with blonde hair and a pale blue dress who was very heroic. Ella never knew her name, but she called her 'Ally' because everyone else called her that too. 

The girls have done lots of unspeakable things and the last straw was the time they stole the Red Queen's jam tarts. She was furious, and as a punishment for Ella, she beheaded her parents and sent her away to live with the Tremaine family. If Ella ever showed her face to anyone other than them, she will be executed in front of everyone. Ella's only hope for survival since the brutal treatment of her "step-family" was Ally and she hoped to see her again.
