Backstory

Jaya's mother died shortly after she was born. Her father moved them from Ba Sing Se into a smaller town near the coast of the Earth Kingdom where her uncle and cousin live. Her cousin was just a year older than her, and his mother had died too. They became very close and trained together. 

She learnt a strange type of earthbending. being that it was near the coast, their town was inhabited by not only earthbenders, but waterbenders too. she learnt a mixed style of earth bending and waterbending, though she can only earth bend she knows both styles.
