The Avengers are the world's premier superhero team, tasked with protecting and saving the world from superhuman, extraterrestrial, supernatural, and interdimensional threats. Nicknamed "Earth's Mightiest Heroes", the members of Avengers are considered as extraordinary champions with powerful abilities, and their unbreakable willpower along with their strength in union makes them the strongest.

History

The team was first founded when Loki, the Asgardian God of Mischief, attempted to lead an invasion of Earth with the army of aliens known as the Chitauri. His brother, Thor, went to Earth to bring Loki back to Asgard. On Earth, Iron Man, Captain America, and Captain Marvel were called to action by Nick Fury, who are also joined by Black Panther, who was in America tracking down black arms dealer Ulysses Klaue who was smuggling vibranium. Together, they manage to drive out the Chitauri and defeated Loki. After that, the five heroes decided to join forces and form the Avengers, and using Stark Tower, now rebranded as Avengers Tower, as their headquarters.

From then on, the Avengers would face many threats, including Ultron, a malicious artificial intelligence created by Dr. Hank Pym, the first Ant-Man, who tried to wipe out humanity out of disgust, Hydra, a terrorist organization led by Red Skull, a Nazi super soldier and Captain America's arch nemesis who was believed to be perished in WWII, Doctor Doom, a powerful supervillain who is the ruler of Latveria, A.I.M., a criminal organization and a think tank of scientists dedicated to world domination led by MODOK, The Masters of Evil, a supervillain team led by Baron Zemo, Kang the Conqueror, a time-traveling terrorist, and Thanos, a powerful galactic warlord who tried to wipe out half of universe's population with the Infinity Stones, six powerful crystals that were manifestations of universe's aspects; Power, Space, Reality, Soul, Time, Mind.

The team is later joined by Wanda Maximoff, Scarlet Witch, a powerful sorceress who is the daughter, who joined the main Avengers and became prominent member afterwards. However, after the seeming death of her twin children Tommy and Billy at the hands of Ultron, she suffers a psychotic break and warps reality to create an alternate reality, but they manage to break away after Iron Man discovers change in reality and restore the rest of the Avengers' memories.

They eventually learn that Wanda was possessed by Chthon, an evil Elder God who created a dark grimoire known as the Darkhold which Wanda attempted to use to enhance her powers to restore her children but instead possessed her mind. The Avengers save Wanda, but she sacrifices herself to destroy Chthon and the Darkhold. They hold a funeral for Wanda afterwards.

In the aftermath, the Avengers found themselves pitted against the U.S. government as well, especially from Henry Peter Gyrich, their government liaison who had the president signed the Superhuman Registration Act after the incident with Scarlet Witch. He also has them reveal their identities or disband, which they do after becoming disgusted with Gyrich's actions. To make matters worse, Gyrich now has other superheroes hunted down by the Thunderbolts, a team of former supervillains, and dissolved S.H.I.E.L.D. as well.

However, the Avengers would reunite again, when Nick Fury, discovers a conspiracy revealing that the actions of Scarlet Witch and the Superhuman Registration Act was all conspired by Orchis, an organization dedicated to eradication of all superhuman beings, formed from ranks of S.H.I.E.L.D., S.W.O.R.D., A.I.M., and HYDRA. Fury is killed by Norman Osborn, a former supervillain Green Goblin and now leader of new version of S.H.I.E.L.D. called H.A.M.M.E.R., which acts as a cover for the Orchis, but he manages to sent out a message to Tony Stark. After learning the truth, Stark reactivates the Avengers protocol and reassemble the team once again, now to fight against their true enemy: Orchis.
