Lana's POV

Lana looked up when she noticed someone was standing in front of her desk. Her green eyes met the most beautiful of the blues that reminded her of her summer days in France. Then she took the rest of the male that stood in front of her in.

He had black hair much similar to hers and a clean cut face that was very handsome. He was very tall, even with her heels, Lana was a couple inches shorter than him. Then she breathed air in and smelled his scent it felt as if he smelled like home. The woody smell of forest and snow brought out a longing so hard in her that she had to right herself by holding onto the desk. When she had composed herself she turned her attention to the male. He was a werewolf, she could smell it on him.

They had this distinctive smell on them that the vampires didn't possess. This made vampires very good at being undetected to other supernatural beings.

Earlier during the class, Lana had heard the male growl the word mate thanks to her enhanced hearing. She had brushed it off as nothing and now she wondered what the male was doing still standing in class after the lecture had finished.

"May I help you?" Lana inquired with a slight tilt of her.

The male seemed unsure of himself while trying to come up with right words. At last he seemed to find the right words.

"My name is Roman Denvar, I wanted to say welcome to the university. Did you move here for the job Ms.-" Lana interfered while Roman was telling her surname.

"You can call me Lana. Ms. Seems unnecessary really. And yes I recently moved here."

"Where were you living before? Was it somewhere in America again?" Roman asked looking genuinely curious.

"No I was living in Rome, Italy." Lana replied seeing no harm could come from telling the truth of her previous location.

"I always wanted to visit there myself but never had the chance. The real question I wonder is why would someone leave Rome to come to America." Roman asked with humour in his eyes.

"Change in scenery." Lana simply replied giving a small grin herself back to Roman.

They just smiled at each other for a while both not saying anything and both content about it. Then out of no where Roman asked something.

"Do you know what a mate is?" With caution and doubt swirling in his eyes. Roman most likely thought he was talking to a human as he was not able to smell any other scent of supernatural.

"Yes, I know what they are Roman." Lana answered while wondering what this werewolf wanted inquiring whether she knew what a mate is.

Roman seemed to be relieved by hearing a yes to his answer. But then he looked puzzled and asked, "How do you know what mates are?"

"Well, I am guessing you are thinking I'm a human." Roman gave a slight nod of head and Lana continued, "We don't have a specific scent so it is perfectly normal to mistake me to a human but I'm a vampire."

That little bit of information seemed to have a great effect on Roman because he stopped breathing for a second and just looked at Lana. When he was able to breathe again he was whispering things like 'how can this be' or 'my mate is a vampire?' And so on. Lana hearing his self inquires decided to get in on the conversation.

"What do you mean your mate is a vampire?" With curiosity sparkling in her green eyes.

Roman looked up and looked directly into Lana's eyes making her forget what she asked for a second and then he answered.

"You are my mate."

It took Lana no time to perceive that information. The hard part was rationalising it. There was no previous records of a mating between a werewolf and a vampire. It was impossible. The species were simply not created that way, to have a crossing between them. A werewolf found his or her mate from either a human or a werewolf not vampire or fairies or other supernatural. The same thing for the vampires, their beloved was either from another vampire or human.

"I think you have made a mistake. That is not possible." Lana said while smiling. This was interesting. Never before had someone mistook her for a beloved much less a mate.

"No, I know this is weird for me too. I though it was impossible too but my wolf is screaming at me right now that you are my mate." Roman said.

"Maybe your wolf has made a mistake pup." Lana stated while finishing collecting her bag and getting the strap on her shoulder.

Roman still looked a little bit spaced out like he was talking with his wolf so Lana made her way to the exit of the class. Right when she was at the door Roman spoke up.

"No. I am sure we are mates. And we are almost the same age do bot call me pup." Roman added.

Lana turned to face him and smirked a little thinking a little 'pup' got his fur puffed out because he got called a newborn. She couldn't stop herself but thinking that he was adorable. This way of thinking was definitely out of character for her.

"We are not the same age cara mea. I am old. Do not let my physical appearance deceive you." And with that Lana turned around and walked out of the classroom leaving Roman behind.

She arrived at the university's parking lot and getting into the car, Lana made her way back home. While gripping the steering wheel and cruising down the free way, she couldn't stop this nagging mind going back to the single word mate. And now it was also accompanied with the word beloved.

Lana would have closed the subject and put the whole exchange with Roman behind her but her mind did not let her.

And without her consent, the single doubt etched itself into her mind.

After all these years... could I have found my beloved?
