Scott reaches Svetlogorsk village only to find that the situation is much grim than he had initially thought it to be as investigating the locals reveals a slew of sinister developments such as a few local fishermen going missing, shipping trawlers turning up as wreckage on the shores bearing unexplainable damages and tourists not returning from kayaking. As Scott probes deeper into the mystery the locals blame it on the recent underwater volcanic eruptions which might have led to such disasters which although fairly consistent with other such cases fails to satiate Scott's curiosity. Boris Daskalov, one of the oldest living members of the small-town community discloses to Scott the legend and myth of The Devil Serpent, a supposed sea monster that has been sighted by the local community and has been terrorizing the village whose sporadic sightings have only fueled the recent horrific maritime disasters. As Scott further investigates the purported incidents, he's met with a menagerie of dead ends only to return empty-handed and decides to comb through the entire collected pieces of evidence spending some time in a local pub in the evening. Glancing through the evening newspaper he reads an ominous headline describing a missing scientist by the name of Jonathan Bradbury who used to work for Neptune Co. Ltd surprisingly he notices that the event had taken place closely with the reported disasters in the town. Scott visits Jonathan's next of kin, his 15-year-old son named Jordan who is completely unaware of the entire machinations but mentions that his father had entrusted him to safeguard a thumb drive in his bank vault at all cost. As Scott accompanies Jordan to retrieve the thumb drive, they are stalked by a pair of hired assassins who nearly succeed in eliminating their targets only to be saved by the grace of Scott's improvised escape route. Scott reviews through the contents of the thumb drive where confidential documents detailing Neptune Co's involvement in running secret experiments on a Mutagen trying to restore its vitality and testing it on marine creatures. Scott shares the developments with Boris who further informs Scott about Hermann Mueller, a former Nazi now an aging resident of the local insane asylum who had on countless occasions tried to warn the others about the creature but his words had fallen on deaf ears.
