I stuffed my laptop into my bag, feeling content; I had done a good job today. Working as an interior designer had always been my dream. I bid farewell to Estelle, who waved back. I shouldered my bag and stepped into the elevator.

"Bye, Ally. I'll be there in 5." The thing that I most loved about my job was that it was just 5 minutes away from my home. After reaching home, I placed my bag on the chair and hugged my roommate. "You've got mail, Cate." I picked up a white envelope and opened it. It was from my Mom; she was a bit old-fashioned (maybe a lot).

Catie,
I hope you are doing well. It's been a really long time since you came and visited...I was wondering if you would like to come to Gulf Shores. At least for a week. Please, honey. Fingers crossed.

Love you

"What is that letter about?" "My Mom is asking me to come visit her." "You're going?" "Nah." "Why?! You have a beach house!" I sighed. "No." "Is this about that guy?" "No! Of course not. Anyways he won't be there." "Do you even know where he is?" "No. I don't want to know." "But-" My expression made it clear that I didn't want to discuss the topic anymore.

I walked into the office building. "Hey, Boss." There was something weird. Usually my boss would be smiling and winking at me. He looked grim. "Is something wrong?" He didn't say anything and beckoned me towards his office. "I'm sorry about this, Cate..." "About what?" "I'm going to have to fire you." My smile wavered. "Is there a reason for that?" "My Boss, your Boss' Boss wants to give your position to his son." I opened my mouth and closed it; I didnt have words to say. "I tried to say that you excel at your job, but he just didn't listen to me." I gave him a small smile, my vision blurring up. "Pedigrees always win, don't they?" "Cate..." "I'll clear my stuff, Boss." "I had nothing to do with it. Why are you speaking to me with that tone?" Without a word, I left his office and ran to the elevator as fast as I could in my Louboutins. I could pick up my stuff later.

I stared at the ceiling after my hyperventilate-crying. Ally banged my door once more. "Go, away!" "You've been saying that for a long time! Will you tell me what happened?" Reluctantly, I opened the door. Ally tried to stifle a gasp. "You had a break down?" Was it that obvious? I walked to the full-sized mirror and looked at myself. My face was red and blotchy with streaks of smudged mascara on it. My shirt was rumpled and my hair was a mess. "Sit down on the bed and tell me what happened." I reiterated today's events to her. "Oh, Cate... it's okay. You'll get another job." "I don't want a job right now. What I want is a little vacation. The question is where should I go?" Ally rolled her eyes. "Your Mom's house! She invited you, right?" I snorted. "Fine. I just want to get outta here."
