All goes onward and outward, nothing collapses, and to die is different from what any one supposed.

Walt Whitman

In this book, I'm tackling the subject of Death. I know what you're thinking. Well, don't. It will give me, as a writer, a lot of room to stretch myself, dig deep, and bring out some of those darker truths we all share.

If you recognise that quote, you will know it's taken from The Mighty Boosh TV show. This is a piece of fanfiction based on British comedy duo Julian Barratt and Noel Fielding, The Mighty Boosh, but utilises many of their fictional characters from the show.

The premise of the story is inspired by the fourth episode of Series One, which is called "Bollo", and involves Julian's character dying and being taken to the Afterlife.

If you are a fan of The Mighty Boosh, you'll find plenty of Easter eggs to enjoy. However, if not, I wrote this to be fandom blind, so that anyone can enjoy the story. And if you have never even heard of The Mighty Boosh, you're exactly the reader I was hoping for!

This is a Mature rated book, written for adults, and although it isn't a dark story, it contains death themes and references to suicide. It is also LGBT, specifically the B part of it. It is a fantasy romance, not erotica, but does include some mildly explicit sexual scenes. There are trigger warnings at the start of relevant chapters.

The story is set in a version of the Afterlife which is obviously fictional. The world of the Afterlife has been to an extent suggested by The Mighty Boosh themselves, and gives a British spin to the 1991 Albert Brooks film Defending Your Life. To the best of my recollection, I haven't copied plot elements or characters from the film, but I haven't seen it for a while, so correct me if I'm wrong.

Another major influence is Dante's Divine Comedy, which was dragged out whenever I got stuck. The Bible has almost nothing to say about the Afterlife, but the very few snippets of information it gives were of invaluable assistance. Various philosophers were consulted, especially a strange little book written in the 1960s called Testimony of Light, which purports to be memoir written by a nun who is actually in the Afterlife, and transmitted via occult means.

This is a work of fiction, and is not intended to be taken seriously or cause offence to anyone's spiritual beliefs. It isn't meant to be frightening or give anyone nightmares, because I've lost far too many people to want to imagine an Afterlife filled with horrors.

The quotes used at the start of each chapter have occasionally been edited for length and relevancy.
