That night Henwy couldn't sleep.

The past few nights since his secret screw up were miserable. He tried so many things to fall asleep, but the same image would run through his head anytime he closed his eyes.

He wrapped himself firmly in his blankets and buried his face in his pillow. He squeezed his eyes shut and allowed the scene to play again.

It was the day after he had confirmed his partnership with Sigils.

Henwy was mining. He wasn't searching for anything particular, just grabbing whatever he could.

Henwy dug for a few hours. He explored all kinds of caves and underground rivers and abandoned mines. He hadn't realized how closely he had come to the Living Chamber, an enclosed geode of shimmering white crystals that granted the power  to respawn after death. Henwy accidentally made a small crack in the outer shell and was able to peak in. The crystals shimmered and glowed.

Destroy it. All of it.

The thought had occurred quickly and suddenly. It lingered in the back of his conscience.

He shakily held his pickaxe, keeping it pointing down, but ready for a powerful strike. Henwy had felt another presence in the cave with him.

He didn't move for a while, shocked and in awe of the splendor of the life-renewing object. It was mind numbing. Maybe that's why it was so easy for the dark thoughts to seep through.

The ones Henwy swore he had killed and buried.

Destroy all of it. Leave no hints of light.

Henwy tried to stop himself. He had random thoughts like this all of the time but this time it was harder to control himself. He raised the diamond pickaxe above his head and brought it down with such force he stumbled.

He didn't feel like himself.

His eyes shot open and he breathed heavily for a few moments. He hadn't destroyed all of it and was able to stop himself, but most of it was gone. He didn't know if it still made death permanent, though.

But he was still deathly terrified of telling anyone.
